Despite being the trilogy-closing chapter to one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most popular franchises, the development process for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hasn’t exactly been plain sailing. The first two installments received positive reviews from fans and critics alike, as well as earning over $1.5bn at the box office, but the third entry hit the skids when writer/director James Gunn was fired by Disney over controversial tweets that he had made in the past.
It seemed as though the cast and crew, with Dave Bautista being particularly vocal, were ready to revolt in the wake of the studio’s decision, leaving the future of Vol. 3 surrounded by question marks. Ultimately, Gunn was rehired by Disney to finish the Guardians trilogy, but not before he had already agreed to jump ship and direct another team-based superhero movie for Marvel’s rivals DC, with shooting on...

Though Rick Grimes was whisked away from Alexandria in a helicopter last fall, Andrew Lincoln has remained committed to The Walking Dead franchise. Not only is he due to lead his own movie trilogy, but the actor also promised that he’d return to the set of the show to direct an episode of season 10.
“I’m going back to shadow a director, and my intention is to direct next year,” Lincoln revealed a year ago. He did so, too, as he worked with director Michael E. Satrazemis on season 9, episode 12 “Guardians.” However, it seems the star will have to put his filmmaking aspirations on hold for the moment as it’s been announced he won’t be directing for season 10, after all.
Entertainment Weekly broke the news, citing that “schedules could not be aligned.” They did confirm, however, that another ex-star of the series will be helming an episode instead.

Today’s brought good news for you Asgardian enthusiasts out there. Thor 4 has essentially been officially confirmed to be on its way, as The Hollywood Reporter has shared a story claiming that Ragnarok‘s Taika Waititi has signed a deal to write and direct a fourth adventure for the God of Thunder. But does the fact that this movie is happening prove that Chris Hemsworth won’t be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?
Following the hilarious “Asgardians of the Galaxy” scene at the end of Avengers: Endgame, fans assumed that Thor hitching a ride on the Benatar with the Guardians meant that he was now one of the team and would appear in their upcoming threequel. When asked if this was happening, the Endgame filmmakers played coy and said it was all up to GotG‘s James Gunn. Hemsworth himself, though, said he’d be down for playing Thor in the movie.

As we expected, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has signed on to write and direct Thor 4 for Marvel studios! The news comes less than a week before Marvel Studio holds their big panel at San Diego Comic-Con where they will reveal their phase 4 plans.
Well, it looks like Thor 4 is officially part of those plans! THR is reporting that he jumped on board the project after some issues came up regarding WB’s Akira. That was supposed to be his next film but the production start date was pushed back due to some issues with the script.
The production shift date ended up being way too close to when Marvel wanted to start production on the next Thor film, so Waititi shifted his focus from Akira to Thor.
There’s no official word on what will happen with Akria, but according to the report, WB might wait for Waititi to...

Taika Waititi is officially returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to Variety, the writer-director has closed a deal with Disney and Marvel Studios to helm “Thor 4,” which will mark his return to Marvel after making the 2017 tentpole “Thor: Ragnarok.” Waititi’s “Thor” movie is widely credited with getting the Chris Hemsworth-led superhero franchise back on track after the critical misfire that was “Thor: The Dark World.” “Ragnarok” was released in theaters in November 2017 and grossed $854 million worldwide.
While Waititi’s involvement in “Thor 4” is now confirmed, plot details are remaining under wraps for now. The character ended this year’s record-breaking “Avengers: Endgame” by heading off with the Guardians of the Galaxy, which led many Marvel fans to wonder whether Thor would be getting his own standalone sequel or be appearing in James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” Perhaps Hemsworth will star in both. “Ragnarok...

Avengers: Endgame may be out of theaters, but fans and the people who worked on the film are still talking about the immensely successful movie. And one of the hottest topics of debate centers around Thanos, and whether or not his character was dealt with in a satisfactory manner after the Mad Titan killed off half of all life in the universe.
Recently, Dave Bautista weighed in on the villain’s fate. The actor shot to fame playing Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy, but his interactions with Thanos were much more limited than in the comics, where Drax had sworn an oath to end the Mad Titan’s life for destroying his family. And Bautista wishes viewers could’ve gotten to see some of that dynamic in the movie as well.
“I don’t know. I think he’s going to be a little unsatisfied he didn’t kill Thanos himself.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film critics a question pertaining to the contemporary movie landscape.
This week’s question: What was the best movie of the 2018 summer movie season?
The responses have been grouped alphabetically by movie, from “Avengers: Infinity War” at the top to “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” at the bottom.
Katey Stoetzel (@kateypretzel), The Young Folks
I have to go with the blockbuster. “Avengers: Infinity War” was the peak movie-going experience of the summer for me. I saw it twice in theaters, and again recently. Like with many films you’ve seen multiple times, I was a bit concerned the spectacle of the film – 10 years in the making, and all that – wasn’t there on third viewings and beyond. In a recent report from THR regarding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 being put on hold by Marvel and Disney in the wake of James Gunn's firing, they revealed that Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi recently met with Marvel Studios about an unknown subject matter.
There's no word on what the meeting was about, but there's a lot of speculation that they approached him about replacing James Gunn as the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. When it comes to a director to replace Gunn, Waititi seems to be at the top of the list for a lot of fans.
I think Waititi would do a fine job stepping in to take over the Guardians franchise, but I still would prefer Gunn. That's his baby that he's nurtured over the past few years. But, that's not going to happen, so Waititi might just be the next best thing,...

While it really should’ve come as a surprise to no one, Marvel halted production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 yesterday and, as you might expect, the internet did not handle it well.
For those of you who don’t know, last month, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was dealt one helluva sockdolager when The Walt Disney Company terminated filmmaker James Gunn over inappropriate content posted to his official Twitter account. Although there’d been talk that the House of Mouse might consider reinstating the director, unfortunately, Disney put their foot down last week and, the logical next step – putting the irreverent supergroup on ice – soon followed.
Truthfully speaking, Marvel hitting the pause button on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was a long time coming. Nevertheless, inevitability doesn’t make accepting the harsh reality we’re now forced to swallow any easier.

Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista gleefully posted a bizarre video from journalist Mike Cernovich and his wife, fake-praising the Walt Disney Co. for siding with the controversial blogger over the dismissal of writer/director James Gunn from the franchise.
The video is somewhat insider baseball in the blogging world, as Cernovich claims a fellow blogger will be remembered for “doxxing” a 15-year-old, with Cernovich claiming not to care about perceptions.
Bautista, who plays super-strongman Drax in the film series, has been active on social media in defending Gunn, who was dismissed by Disney from future editions of Guardians after old tweets of questionable taste were brought to light by Cernovich and other bloggers. Gunn apologized for the comments and said they were jokes made when he was in a different stage of life. His dismissal has created polarized opinions on Disney’s actions, among them an open letter...

Lee Pace is set to return as Kree villain Ronan the Accuser for the first time since his McU debut in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy in next year’s Captain Marvel. As the studio’s keeping any and all details about Brie Larson’s much-anticipated first solo movie as Carol Danvers under lock and key, the actor’s now taken to Twitter to tease his upcoming return to the franchise.
Pace shared a video of himself walking through a sun-drenched location in the south of France – as one smart fan noticed in the comments, he’s near the Pont du Gard, an ancient Roman structure. In the vacation clip, The Hobbit star’s wearing a Captain Marvel cap, no doubt gifted to those involved with the production. It features the film’s official logo on the back and Danvers’ emblem on the front.

Following director James Gunn’s firing due to the resurfacing of old tweets, production on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” has been put on hold. Marvel and Disney informed nearly 20 crew members who were in Los Angeles for pre-production that they were free to seek other work, according to Variety, and neither company has yet to comment on the matter.
Gunn, who wrote and directed the first two highly popular installments in the series, has received an outpouring of support from collaborators and fans alike; a petition calling on Disney to reinstate him received hundreds of thousands of signatures, and the main cast of “Guardians” wrote a letter in his defense.
That support comes not only because of Gunn’s statements on the tweets in question but the fact that the alt-right activists who unearthed them appear to have done so for political reasons and with exactly this outcome in mind.

A small production crew on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3” has been dismissed while Disney regroups as it continues to look for a new director, an individual with knowledge of the situation tells TheWrap.
The crew was left over from when previous director James Gunn was overseeing the film. The production was still crewing up for a fall start to begin full pre-production.
Disney fired Gunn in July after old tweets were unearthed and publicized by far-right media personality Mark Cernovich and his followers. Written by Gunn nearly a decade earlier, the tweets featured jokes about pedophilia and rape, as well as an old blog post he wrote after the DC character Batwoman was revealed to be gay. The tweets and comments previously came to light in 2012, soon after Gunn was hired to direct the first “Guardians” film, and Gunn issued an apology for them at the time.

Production for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” has been put on a temporary hold, with Marvel and Disney dismissing the handful of crew members who had assembled in Los Angeles for pre-production.
Those crew members, numbering less than 20, have been told that they are free to look for other work, a source told Variety on Friday.
Disney and Marvel had no comment on the latest development, which comes a month after James Gunn was fired due to dozens of years-old tweets appearing to make light of pedophilia and rape coming to light. On Aug. 15, Variety reported that Disney and Marvel were standing strong on their decision not to re-hire Gunn for the third installment despite pressure from the “Guardians” cast, including Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana.
Gunn and his UTA reps had pushed hard for Disney to give him a second chance, and studio chairman Alan Horn took a meeting on Aug.

For once, things did not end well for our heroes in Avengers: Infinity War as they actually failed to stop the bad guy, with Thanos managing to pull off the dreaded finger snap that wiped out half of the universe. It took the combined effort of the Avengers, the Guardians and multiple others to face him, but still they lost. We all know who they really needed, though: the one and only Hawkeye.

Dave Bautista has mocked Disney every step of the way since they fired his “Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn on July 20, so it’s not too much of a surprise the wrestler-turned-actor took to Twitter to slam the studio following reports that Gunn will remain fired despite fans and the “Guardians” cast pushing for his reinstatement. Bautista, who plays Drax the Destroyer, evoked Donald Trump and Maga when reacting to the latest news.
“Thanks, Disney!” Bautista sarcastically wrote, tagging Disney’s official account. The actor was responding to ScreenCrush’s article about the recent meeting between Gunn and Disney chairman Alan Horn. The filmmaker was informed at the meeting that he would remain fired from the “Guardians” franchise. The next “Guardians” movie is set to begin production at the start of 2019 and already has a tentative 2020 release date. Marvel boss Kevin Feige is expected to begin looking for a replacement director immediately.

Guardians of the Galaxy actor Dave Bautista has been among the leading critics of Disney’s firing of the franchise’s director James Gunn, and now he’s “thanking” the studio for the move. In a tweet today, the wrestler-turned-thespian also took a not-subtle swipe at the folks who dredged up Gunn’s old offensive tweets that kick-started the ruckus:
Bautista, who played Drax the Destroyer in the first two installments of the lucrative Marvel superhero franchise, spoke out last month against Gunn’s axing and said at the time that “will have more to say.” He tweeted in late July that Gunn “is one of the most loving, caring, good natured people I have ever met. Despite rumors to the contrary, Avengers: Infinity War arrived on home video with four – count ’em, four – deleted scenes, totaling just over 10 minutes of never-before-seen footage.
So while some fans had come to expect an extended three-hour cut replete with Thanos’ mysterious backstory, Marvel Studios and the Russo Brothers kept the number of deleted scenes to four – even if some are more disposable than others. That said, there is one deleted scene, in particular, that Joe and Anthony Russo wanted to keep. Spoilers: it involves the Guardians of the Galaxy (sans Gamora) parked up at Knowhere soon after their initial encounter with Thanos.
Entitled “The Guardians Get Their Groove Back,” it’s undoubtedly a fun and frivolous scene of Star-Lord and Drax bickering on board the Milano, but you can see why the Russo Brothers ultimately decided to leave it on the cutting room floor.

The news that James Gunn has been fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 due to the resurgence of some appalling tweets he posted nearly a decade ago has seemed to split the internet right down the middle, with some supporting the decision while others mourn the loss of another Gunn Marvel movie. It’s official: “Halo: Infinite” is “Halo 6”.
Microsoft unveiled “Halo Infinite” as the next mainline title in the “Halo” series at E3, but some fans were confused if this latest entry was a direct successor to “Halo 5: Guardians”, or another unnumbered spin-off title like fan-favorite “Halo Odst”.
As reported by GameSpot, Jeff Easterling—a writer and content producer at 343 Industries— has now confirmed via a recent Mixer livestream that “Infinite” is indeed the next main title.
“It is Halo 6,” Easterling said. “You should just consider it Halo 6. Don’t think of it as a weird prequel kind of thing. It’s the next story. It’s the next chapter in what is going on.”
While not else about the sequel has been shared publicly, Steve Downes is confirmed to reprise his role as the voice of the Master Chief in “Halo Infinite”, with this game refocusing the story...

James Gunn and Alan Horn, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, met face to face just under a month since the filmmaker was fired by the studio, and it turns out Gunn will not be returning to work for Disney. According to an exclusive report from Variety, Disney is remaining committed to Gunn’s firing. The “Guardians of the Galaxy” director will not return for the franchise’s third installment after Disney severed ties with him over controversial jokes he made on Twitter about rape, pedophilia, etc.
In the weeks since Gunn was fired there has been a groundswell of support for the director. Gunn’s “Guardians” cast members published an open letter on July 30 expressing their full support of Gunn and the many fans urging Disney to rehire the director on the next “Guardians” sequel. Dave Bautista, who plays Drax the Destroyer, has been most critical of Disney. The...

After a strong push to get James Gunn back as director of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” following his firing from the project, Disney and Marvel are standing by their decision to not reinstate him as helmer for the next installment. The decision came following a meeting between Gunn and studio chairman Alan Horn.
Gunn was let go from the project nearly a month ago when dozens of Gunn’s tweets from nearly a decade ago came to light. The so-called joke tweets, about pedophilia and rape, were recently resurfaced by alt-right agitators. The studio acted quickly to remove Gunn from directing the third installment, believing the comments were unacceptable in the Me Too era and were not in line with Disney’s family-friendly image.

Undoubtedly the most pressing matter pertaining to the fourth supergroup installment, otherwise known as Avengers 4, is whether or not those eviscerated by Thanos (Josh Brolin) during the cataclysmic finale of Infinity War will be returning.
At this point in time, it’s pretty much a foregone conclusion the film will contain some sort of time travel element, ultimately leading to the resurrection of at least a few of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. After all, amongst those dusted, like Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Groot (Vin Diesel) and Drax (Dave Bautista) – just to name a few – most are scheduled to reprise their roles in future Marvel Cinematic Universe installments, whether it be Spider-Man: Far From Home, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 or Doctor Strange 2.
Granted, Drax, Groot, and the collective fate of the rest of the lovable ragtag crew is an entirely separate issue altogether. That said, regardless of the Guardians’ fate,...

Avengers: Infinity War was nothing if not spectacular.
From the opening moments of Joe and Anthony Russo’s star-studded crossover, viewers are thrust into a dizzying maelstrom of visual effects and set pieces so ambitious in their scale and scope, that we were left clutching the arms of our chair.
Take the one in which Spider-Man‘s dangling from Ebony Maw’s doughnut ship. Refusing to stay home and watch Infinity War unfold from the sidelines, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker springs into action, only to wind up in low-Earth orbit as he desperately tries to rescue Doctor Strange.
That’s where Tony Stark comes into the equation, and flings an upgraded suit towards Peter just in time, which simultaneously stops his fall and allows him to breathe in outer space. See for yourself:

Chris Pratt has mostly stayed out of the spotlight since news broke July 20 that Disney was severing all ties with his “Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn. As the actor tells the Associated Press in a new video interview, he made a conscious decision to stay away from the press since Gunn’s firing was such a shock. Pratt appeared as Star Lord in Gunn’s first two “Guardians” movies and was set to reunite with the filmmaker on the 2020 sequel before Gunn’s firing.
“We all love James and he’s a good friend of ours, but we also really love playing the Guardians of the Galaxy,” Pratt said. “It’s a complicated situation for everybody.”
Pratt said “it’s not an easy time” following Gunn’s removal from the “Guardians” franchise. Gunn’s firing was announced just before Comic-Con weekend. Pratt attended the media event in support...

“Guardians of the Galaxy” star Chris Pratt told the AP that this is “not an easy time” to be Star-Lord. The actor was responding to a question about Disney firing James Gunn after some old, distasteful tweets of his were resurfaced.
“Well, I was a little shocked, like everybody,” Pratt said of the situation.
The man behind Peter Quill didn’t want to say too much more. “We put a lot of time, thought and effort into the statement that we released about it, and I think we all kind of want that statement to be essentially what we have to say about it,” Pratt added.

Several weeks have now passed, and Disney’s shocking dismissal of Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is almost in our collective, rear-view mirror. However, the fallout of the situation is showing no signs of disappearing any time soon. The abrupt parting of studio and filmmaker (over the latter’s controversial tweets) is a constant source of debate online. And after every new development, more arguments and ethical questions arise.
Is it right to judge someone so long after the original event? Was Disney right to fire Gunn so quickly without investigating further? How much should context be considered in situations like this? And, when less-than savory characters are clearly muddying the waters for their own ends, how much should this apply?

Karen Gillan has shared a new behind the scenes look at filming on Avengers: Infinity War today. The shot (seen below), which the Guardians of the Galaxy actress posted on her Instagram account, features her in full costume as cyborg anti-hero Nebula against a blue screen with the Russo brothers on hand to give her pointers.
“Behind the scenes on Avengers Infinity War with the directors – the Russo Brothers,” Gillan captioned the image. Marvel fans should recognize which scene this is, too, as it’s the sequence where Thanos tortures Nebula in order to get Gamora to give up the location of the Soul Stone. The horrible scene sees Nebula pulled apart and in constant pain, and we imagine the actress was left with a pretty soar throat after screaming all day during this part of the shoot.

The month-long event, which is intended to commemorate your Guardian’s Moments of Triumph in the game, offers players the opportunity to earn a full set of 400 power masterwork armor for each of their Guardians. It looks like Marvel Studios and its president Kevin Feige have James Gunn's back. Deadline is reporting that "back channel conversations are taking place between Marvel Studios and Disney". Their inside source tells them that, "Marvel contingent is trying to persuade Disney to explore a compromise that might bring Gunn back into the fold for Guardians 3, something that clearly would be best for the franchise."
So it's further proof that there's a chance Disney may actually bring Gunn back on board. The report makes a point of saying there is "no clash or strong arming here" from Marvel. It's just a discussion that Marvel is declaring their loyalty to Gunn and they'd like to bring him back into the fold if they can.

James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” cast has already voiced its support for the director to be rehired on the next sequel of the superhero franchise, and it appears Gunn also has the backing of Marvel Studios. Deadline reports behind-the-scenes talks are taking place between Marvel and Disney in which the former is trying to persuade the latter to bring Gunn back into the fold for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.”
Disney severed all ties with Gunn on July 20 after jokes the filmmaker made on Twitter years ago about topics such as rape and pedophilia resurfaced. The jokes were re-published online by right wing journalists Jack Posobiec and Mike Cernovich. Gunn is an outspoken liberal who has used Twitter on many occasions to criticize Donald Trump.

James Gunn might just get a chance to close out his trilogy.
The former shepherd of Marvel’s cosmic universe – Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 included – was abruptly fired on July 20th when a number of shocking and inappropriate tweets resurfaced.
Amid the fallout, the core Guardians cast released a joint statement in defense of Gunn, with Dave Bautista even going so far as to say that he’ll exit the Marvel Cinematic Universe if Marvel selects another script over James Gunn’s. But Drax fans needn’t sweat, as yesterday, we heard that the studio will likely be sticking with the words Gunn wrote. Not only that, but they may actually bring him back to direct the pic.

Though it doesn’t look like there’s any chance that James Gunn will be rehired, after he was booted off Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 due to some controversial tweets from yesteryear that resurfaced, that might not be it for the filmmaker’s career with Marvel Studios.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed various details about what Gunn’s future may hold, including the possibility of even moving on to other studios such as Warner Bros (perhaps to helm a DC film?). However, this might not come to pass, as Marvel might be interested in using Gunn’s script for Guardians 3, after all. What’s more, they also might be willing to work with the director on a different project.

In contrast to rumors from earlier today, which claimed the exact opposite, The Hollywood Reporter is now telling us that Disney currently plans to use James Gunn’s script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, after all. As it seems there’s no chance of the fired director being rehired due to his inappropriate tweets from yesteryear resurfacing last month, fans have been wondering what would become of the completed screenplay Gunn handed into Marvel execs earlier this year.
In a piece which reveals that other major studios are ready to snatch the director up if the House of Mouse completely cuts ties with him, THR mentions that any such move to, say, Warner Bros. would be complicated because “sources claim Disney plans on using Gunn’s script for the third [Guardians] movie.”
At the very least, this is good news for fans of Dave Bautista and the character of Drax the Destroyer.

When Ane Crabree had a difficult time coming up with the costumes for the Unwomen toiling in the radioactive Colonies in Season 2 of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” she once again relied on a musical mashup for inspiration: “This Bitter Earth,” a combination of the melancholy Dinah Washington ballad and Max Richter’s sublime “Nature of Daylight.” In fact, “This Bitter Earth” served as her personal anthem for a season devoted to loneliness, isolation, and motherhood.
“I had a hard time starting,” said Crabtree. “How do we top that beautiful visual that we created in Season 1? The first thing I could think of was Russian propaganda posters in a kind of ‘work makes life free.’ I applied the paintings that Van Gogh did of the farmers late in his career. There is a promise of utopia in that. Another influence was the desaturation of Andrew Wyeth, which fit perfectly with the Colonies.

I will do what Im legally obligated to do but @Guardians without @JamesGunn is not what I signed up for. Gotg w/o @JamesGunn just isn’t Gotg. Its also pretty nauseating to work for someone who’d empower a smear campaign by fascists #cybernazis . That’s just how I feel https://t.co/Ym4FwruVDu
