Petula Clark was the first British pop star to become a major star in France ,and in 1967 won the first MIDEM International Award for Continental Europe ,.,and her "Chariot" sold a million copies in 1962 and covered later in English by Little Peggy March in America as "I will follow him" .Jacques Brel presented her with his song "Un enfant " on the birth of her daughter (later recorded by Celine Dion) and Serge Gainsbourg wrote her big French hit "La gadoue" later covered by Jane Birkin.
