The sidekicks were the show!
chilligrrl23 January 2020
I didn't realise going into this it was that much of a horror series (the title didn't give it away? Hmmmm). It was an alright base story, not the best in the world and certainly not anywhere near the worst, but the sidekicks made it. The two bromancers, seriously, without them it would be another lame love story. Their humour, facial expressions, dorkiness, loser-ness and charm stole the whole show and they for me were the main story. They get 7 points out of the 8 i gave. Watch it, it's fun, even if you're not into good horror CGI ghosts :)

One of the Hidden gem's

Bong pal is a highschool student who can see ghosts, one day he meets the ghost of girl and they decide to help each other. But the girl has no memory of her past and wants to get her memories back. So they together embark on a journey hunting ghosts while searching for her memories. This is a comedy romance mystery thriller category, it has all the elements perfectly mixed where the first half of the series concentrates on comedy romance and when it comes to middle its romance and mystery and a slight bit of drama too. It then follows the romance thriller category. It's a very good series especially for those who like supernatural and rom-com genre.

Not ashamed to say I really liked this
johnindicastevens13 March 2021
I've never been into k-drama and not quite sure why I even started this series but I throughly enjoyed it.

It's not deep in story although there is a series long tale in the background, it's a mix of ghost of the week and will they won't they storytelling. It's a light hearted rather then dark and just easy to watch. If your stuck for something on Netflix you could do a lot worse than this.

Outstanding, all 16 episodes.

But I'm not sorry to give you 10 STARS for good story. Oh My Ghost (Korean version) still my #1. That makes 'Bring It On, Ghost' #2 ranking for my favorite KDRAMA. For new comer to watch this great show, first episode got my attention to watch it all. I'm not even Korean. Thank you NETFLIX for bringing another wonderful KDRAMA. My wife and I finished all episodes in 5 days.

Brilliant

This is really very good. Holding back the urge to binge watch it as I know once it's over it's over. Episodes stand alone in story mostly but then there is a main story ark that although you kinda guess early on only really know for sure gradually as are drip fed clues building upto the finale. My first K-Drama but won't be last. Cast is solid too.

Good enough
PennyReviews20 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The concept of this drama was interesting enough, but it didn't quite succeeded on getting it through till the end. The story is about a college student who can see ghosts and so he fights them for a living. Then he meets a female ghost, who can't remember her past nor her death, and they collaborate to successfully exorcise the ghosts. One of the positives of this drama was the fact that it had mini cases in each episode, like the background story of the ghosts. Plus, the pace was fast, and it didn't drag along at the last few episodes, though the final one was not that good. As for the romance, it was okay, and they did find a way to make it work (in K dramas they always do!!). However, the ghost stories didn't blend smoothly enough with the main story, which was a little like a replica of Oh my ghost (especially the evil spirit situation). The performances were okay and the action was really entertaining, so, for that, 6 out of 10.

Amazing!!!!

I absolutely loved this show! It started out alot like "Oh my ghost" but developed its own story. It had sooo many actors from other k-drama shows. 8 people from the "lets eat 1 & 2", 1 person from "Oh my ghost" and 1 from "When the camellia blooms". Its really a great show to watch.

I tried to like it, but the interpersonal dynamics were nauseating
andymhancock23 March 2021
The story was good. I like series that deal with combatting the supernatural. But the two main characters were very unlikeable. The male was mean, selfish, and insensitive. The female lead was basically a sexist emblem of ditziness. What worsened it was that the ditziness fed the male's meanness and worse, she took that as a reason to double down and throw herself at him even more. The repulsive aspects of this series has started to outweigh the interesting aspects and about halfway through season one, I quit.

How is that even fair?
dpg3202 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It's not fair when you ask for a story about

  • friendship.

  • love/hate.

  • love.

between a human and a ghost and all you are given is a story about a human and a human in coma.

It's just not.

Some of the most feel-good moments
optimusprime-4825513 June 2022
This show isn't great or anything. It's nice and fun most of the time, but I did watch it with the remote control ready to skip some stuff at all times.

However this show offers some of the cutest feel-good moments I've witnessed in the recent past. So that made up for the annoying parts and left me wanting to rewatch. (I have to admit though, I've got a soft spot for rom-coms.) Which is a damn shame, because it isn't on Netflix anymore.

But anyway, if at some point this show does make it back, you should watch.

Like 🍕 Delivered Upside Down 🔀 Could Have Been ⤴ But It's Just ⤵ °4.6° °Poor°
I tried to roll along with BIO👻, I really did. When watching fiction - especially fantasy - we must hold our suspension of disbelief in order to go along with the show and enjoy it. It's more relaxing to be on the 💛generous side of the issue. Each time we have to dismiss inconsistencies, errors, a clumsy cadence, stupid dialogue or other disappointments, it's like a pinprick. At some point blood starts to gush and one can't let it go anymore. Then almost everything posi+ive drains dry, which is what happened here. This show just doesn't work; it's lifeless. Inconsistencies kept that "little💉pinch" feeling going. For instance:

📍Can people see ghosts, or just evil spirits? It's unclear. We are told that seeing ghosts is something only a few people can do, but as the show goes on, more and more people are seeing ghosts. The viewer can make some guesses as to why this happens, but we shouldn't have to guess. The rules of this world should be explained and then adhered to. Or it hurts.

📍Hyun Ji's wardrobe, and how she is able to obtain, wear and change clothes is inconsistent. Her clothing is a plot driver in some episodes, yet rules about wardrobe laid out early on are bent, broken or tossed out altogether later. While I'm on the subject of costume, when Hyun Ji is wearing black she should have had spike-heeled boots on, not the frumpy-dumpies she wears. How kick@$$ing could she be when wearing them? They only could have helped.

📍She gets wet when it rains but her hair is dry when she comes out of the lake(?)

📍Why don't people see the forks and knives moving and the glasses being raised when ghosts are eating?

📍The police investigate a buried body in the woods and declare that it may not be a natural death? Possibly. What made them think that? Oh, right, the body was BURIED.

📍I'm almost shocked that the two seniors, In Rang and Cheon Sang, who only want to film ghosts in the beginning of the show, seem to forget all about it, and their youtube channel, as the episodes go on. The writer and director just let that aspect float out there and never used it. Letting something so important to the characters just fall away with no reason provided is downright lazy plot and character development.

📍We aren't told how technically skillful In Rang is, early on, so when he magically displays prowess later, it seems to sprout from nowhere.

📍Do we know the monk's actual relationship to Bong Pal? He seems to be an uncle, but if that was stated I missed it. We shouldn't be left to guess.

📍Do we know if Hyun Ji got all of her memories back from her time with Park Bong Pal?

📍What's going on in ep16 when they claim they don't need money and they have to be convinced to earn some? Bizarre.

It's as if they mixed scenes together like four and water. They don't have the sugar and the eggs, so no cake. It's gloop. Instead of a cohesive product that works, they just have a pile of separated scenes that don't combine for a better whole. On top of the inconsistencies and general sloppiness, the soundtrack and sound effects are lackluster.

The acting was fine. The actors suffer from bad directing. It doesn't seem like it's their fault. There appears to be a lack of chemistry, but it's probably a lack of good direction. Joon Hwa Park has a great lineup as a director. Hopefully this is an outlier. Conversely, one of the best things in the show is an incentive twist. That was a pleasant surprise. The villain is well done also, but none of that can bless this offering.

Loved this show
americannurse19 December 2020
Really loved this show. I binged watched all 16 episodes in 2 days. Only thing that could make it better was if I could hear Taecyeon sing. He is a talented actor and I understand also a talented singer. I hope to see more of him on Netflix soon. The female lead is also lovely and charming. Another talent not to be missed.

Enjoyed it - but the 2nd half a bit predictable
leahcubed23 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
When Park Bong-pal (Ok Taec-yeon) was young, he gained the ability to see ghosts after a failed attempt to completely exorcise an evil spirit from him. Not long after the evil spirit murders his mother by pushing her into traffic. His father has a weapon that would destroy the evil spirit and stays away from his son so the spirit will chase him. From a young age, Bong-pal's only parental figure and companion is the monk who failed to fully exorcise the spirit. At first he is terrified of the ghosts and his strange behavior makes him a social outcast. He learns he can fight and destroy malicious ghosts to earn money to live on and also save money for a procedure that would take his ghost site away. On one job he encounters Kim Hyun-ji (Kim So-hyun) a ghost of a different sort who begins to follow Bong-pal when she discovers something about him is allowing her to see the events leading up to her death in flashes. In order to get him to help her she agrees to help him fight ghosts that are stronger than he can take on alone. The evil spirit has inhabited the body of one of Bong-pal's professors and seems to have an unnatural interest in the duo. Feelings grow between Bong-pal and Hyun-ji but those around remind them their love is impossible.

I liked the early episodes and found it very interesting as they solved their ghost cases. I liked the romance between the two leads. About half way through it started to feel very predictable. When she came back to her body she was very different than she had been as a ghost and that was a bit disappointing. Still overall I really liked it just thought they could have kept her character more consistent and could have had a better, less predictable, plot twist.

Strong Start, But With a Very Weak Finish
spasek12 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I watched "Oh My Ghost" a while back, and that series is infinitely superior to this one. It had intelligent characters, a great plot with some good twists, and a cast that was first-rate, led by Bo-Young Park, who is one of the best in the business.

This series is a poor imitation by comparison. It actually starts out quite strong with interesting characters, for the most part, and an interesting story. However, much like a house of cards, everything falls to pieces in the last 4-5 episodes when one is expecting things to continue strongly.

Bong-Pal Park is a young college student living on his own, majoring in Economics, and yet he has an interesting ability: he can see, hear, and even fight ghosts. In fact, he's earning money by being hired as an exorcist. This isn't your "western" exorcist who recites prayers and performs silly rituals, but a man who literally beats up ghosts until they disappear/move on. Yeah, I know...it's a bit silly too. Bong-Pal is a loner who doesn't interact with anyone except for a disheveled and inept monk who feels responsible for Bong-Pal's situation.

Bong-Pal is called to exorcise a ghost at a haunted high school. It's there that he meets Hyeon-Ji Kim, a rather weak, vain, and pesky ghost.

After a fight, she begins following him all around, and they end up teaming up together to fight ghosts. Yes, she can fight them too.

Meanwhile, we have Professor Joon Hye-Seong, who has a way of making any girl sway in her shoes, but is far more diabolical than meets the eye.

There is a connection between all three characters which attempts to drive the story.

The series is intriguing while Bong-Pal and Hyeon-Ji are together. However, a twist unfolds that shakes things up. You can't very well have a K-Drama without a wedge that drives them apart, can you?

We find that, for some reason (unexplained) that Hyeon-Ji is an even weaker and more pathetic young girl than we thought. For some reason, her personality changes, and she's a 24-year-old woman living under the heels of her overbearing, controlling mother. Yes, she has no say in her life, which unfortunately, is very typical of Asian mothers. I ought to know as I've worked as an ESL teacher in China, Korea, and Taiwan. Hyeon-Ji may be 24, but she acts like she's 14, and her mother treats her as such. Some of the worst parents in the world are Asian and American parents. Neither one knows how to empower. One rules by complete control, and the other spoils their kids with everything under the sun. Both are pathetic.

To make matters worse, she's a typical 24-year-old Korean woman who acts 10 years younger than she is, because she's so immature. She gets upset if calls/texts aren't immediately returned (also typical of Korean women) which are followed up with threats of being cut-off permanently if an immediate response isn't given, and she gets upset if all of the attention isn't on her. She pouts and constantly asks, "Did you miss me?"

A 24-year-old woman (who's actually a couple of years older by now) having to ask her boyfriend to ask for permission to date, is one of the saddest and most pathetic things in any culture. This isn't the 1900s!

Episode 15 finally gives us a silly, unconvincing climactic battle. At one point, Hyeon-Ji is asked to get the weapon that will kill the evil spirit. She sits on the ground for 5 minutes before being told again. She literally says and does nothing during the whole battle. The series should have ended here.

Instead, we're giving a completely useless and unnecessary Episode 16 that will challenge even the most hearty viewer to sit through as we are lulled to sleep because it took the writers a whole episode to sort things out with Bong-Pal and Hyeon-ji. We're given scenes that any decent editor would have scrapped! I couldn't even get through the final episode. I finally shut it off with, "Enough!"

If you're looking for a good series to watch, I highly recommend the vastly superior, "Oh My Ghost." Leave this one to the exorcists, as that's what it would take to sort through this contrived mess of a series!

A Feel Good Supernatural Drama
josejpecino21 May 2021
I have watched this show twice now and thoroughly enjoyed it both times, perhaps a bit more the second time around. This show had drama, action, comedy, romance and a few genuine scares too. The actors were brilliant and each episode had a different ghost with its own story, which was beautifully meshed with the main ongoing story.

I highly recommend this show and if you decide to dive in and watch it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Dont take it seriously and just have fun watching it
hanalisss17 June 2023
I enjoyed this one a lot, it was a long time on my list and I started it thinking it was silly and bad quality but it wasn't! So stick watching!

I love how silly and comical most of the scenes are, although it has an undertone of drama it's vague and it doesn't feel heavy but quite lighthearted.

The couple's constant bickering and joking around was very entertaining and they have great chemistry even when the age gap is quite big between them, you can see the genuine connection and how comfortable they feel acting with each other.

Some plots have many holes bit I don't think its should be taken seriously and also the script is a bit bleh with some poorly written characters being quite shallow but overall I think it was great fun.

A slog
Mr-Chicken44414 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The show was slow for the first ten something episodes. It dragged on and I could handle two episodes in one sitting max. It took around a month to finish this, and I couldn't have done it without a friend to make constant snarky comments at how bad it is.

The romantic lead is utterly unlikeable -- the male having no personality, and the female being insufferable. It whiplashes between toxic romantic dynamics and scenes of Hyun-Ji spinning around and smiling inanely. Their interactions in an episode can be boiled down to Hyun-ji whining, insulting Bong Pal and then trying to act cute when she wants something, and Bong Pal being a wet sock in response. There is no chemistry between them and they just seem to be together out of circumstance and not substance.

That being said, the side characters are entertaining enough. They are extremely campy, but charming in their own way. Without them, the show would be unwatchable. However, one foil, the ghost that chats with Hyun-ji now and again was like a hook to the eye. I'm so glad she was killed off.

The pacing was extremely slow, and only became interesting very late on. The twist was fine, but these 16 hours could have been supressed to 4, if not a normal feature length film.

And the ghost CGI sucks.
