Based on the memoir of the same name, “First They Killed My Father” follows Loung Ung, a young Cambodian girl, as she and her family attempt to survive the genocide and terror of the Khmer Rouge regime in 1975 Cambodia. Forced from her home, Ung, played by actor Sareum Srey Moch, must separate from her family and become a child soldier. Directed by the one and only Angelina Jolie, the film was written collaboratively with the real-life Ung and produced by Cambodian-born documentary creator Rithy Panh (“Exil,” “Docs interdits”). The buzzy project is set to premiere on Netflix on Sept. 15. Check out the new trailer below: Check out Backstage’s film audition listings!
