In the final episode of The Reassembler, James May puts together an Electric Guitar.
Throughout the series I always wondered if May actually did put together the telephone or lawnmower or whether there was a team of boffins off camera helping him all along. In this episode we find out that as a young chap May used to work on Japanese motorbikes. It is a segment where he explains the differences between American screwdrivers and hard to get hold off, Japanese screwdrivers. It convinced me that here is a man that loves to put things together, unlike me.
May reassembles a cheap Japanese knock off of the classic Fender. You actually think that this was would be easy to put together although there is a lot of electric soldering going on and May disliked all the soldering.
May talks about the differences between electric and acoustic guitars, Pythagorean tuning and finally plays the guitar once it has got it amped up. Of course it is then revealed that someone else's hands are actually strumming it.
A rather watchable series, maybe his last for some time with the BBC as he is now off to Amazon to experience life with fewer viewers.
