This series has a wonderful title and awe inspiring poetic potential.
The story line is somewhat memorable, if I remember correctly. Was it the writing or delivery that seemed stilted? The intelligence and sensitivity of the script doesn't consistently ring true in the recitation and portrayal of the characters.
Having been a teacher of "The Scottish Play,"for many years I need ask, does the screenplay tell the story well? Does it deliver? Tough questions! So much of the writing relies on the delivery, wherein acting becomes a major player. The earliest scenes of this potentially groundbreaking and inspiring new series just aren't. Steve Gallion's acting is clumsy and artificial, rendering his character superficial from the get go.
There are so many haunting echoes of "Make Scotland Great Again," in the text of this play that it continues to be a moral obligation to education, i.e. didactic lessons on hubris and The Fates. Possibly one of the most important parts of the Bard's canon.
There's a lot to live up to when you try to stage Macbeth! There, I said it, but I'm not in a theater right now so I'm cool! So Cool! Possibly too cool for school...like the execution of this "well meaning" idea.
