More Parental Ugliness

One ongoing theme in these DCI Banks episodes is really bad parenting. Once again, three children die. The first by her own hand and the other two murdered. There are also young people being manipulated or directed by evil parents. In this one, we are introduced to professionals who, had they stuck to their ethics, would have been happy themselves and kept a relationship with their kids. But then we wouldn't have a show. I'm sort of glad to see this end because there doesn't seem to be another level to go to.

Mildly insulting if you stand back

American cop procedural focus on the glitz action bombast. That's why I usually prefer Brit cop shows for interesting plots. They understate the gore but often have too intricate plots that risk losing the audience without periodic explanations. Not a capital crime but annoying. This one has 1) detectives following emotional hunches and leads instead of procedure, 2) shoddy interview techniques including badgering and leading the interviewees, 3) acting surprised or indignant when the slick defense attorney calls them on it. There are few Aha! Moments for the viewer because we're kept current at every step. No denouement near the end to clear things up.

Love DCI Banks! Got to love the Brits....

The directors & writers have improved this show even more. All of the plots & the actors are terrific. Very sorry to see Annie die as she was a major in the show. A trivial but sincere complaint....we absolutely love Caroline Catz having followed her on Doc Martin, but in this show the makeup person has her all wrong. It's disturbing to see her so made up with dark lipstick and the severe hair. Realize they are trying to give her a "tough" strong look, but that's not her. Get rid of those bangs and make the lips neutral so she looks realistic please. Andrea Lowe looked real.

....this rubbish show is almost over and won't be coming back. At least now I know better than to ever watch anything including Tomkinson and/or Catz. They're both terrible actors. And I'll try to avoid anything written by the same people who composed this garbage. A complete waste of time.
