The producers had hoped to build Grace's ranch at Hanging Rock, the location most famous for the disappearance of several girls in the novel Picnic at Hanging Rock and Peter Weir's 1975 film adaptation, which was a major influence on season 2 of The Leftovers. The cost ended up being prohibitive, and the house was instead built in You Yangs Regional Park. The house was completely removed after production ended, per the park's rules.
