Its not good.
phpmer30 November 2017
Starts out with scene showing alien spaceships will be here in 3 mo.

By the time the movie really shows any significant "invasion", it will seem like 3 mos. in real time have elapsed.

There is nothing extremely objectionable.

But nothing redeeming at all either.

How they got actors to take part in this production is a mystery.

While set with a back-drop of folks with issues, you'll be reaching for your opium pipe in about 1/2 hr. Then you'll, like, be in the movie. Cool.

Drug drama masquerading as sci-fi flick
Leofwine_draca7 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
My advice for this movie is to ignore the video cover, which makes it look like a cool science fiction alien invasion flick. It's actually a British indie drama made on a budget of about ten quid, and the sci-fi elements make up very little of the actual running time. Instead, this is a character drama set in a rehabilitation centre for recovering drug addicts. There's a great deal of moping around and the actors looking miserable and a few bright lights shining through windows. The film as a whole is disappointingly slow and uneventful.

We're not alone. We're not crazy.
nogodnomasters26 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The film opens as we see detailed photos of spaceships headed our way that will be here in three months. I have issues with this, but I decided to just go with it instead of discussing light and exposure times. The next thing we see is a group of troubled teens in therapy in a remote location for a six month session. Not too hard to figure out where the aliens are going to land...with most of the movie over. We spend a lot of time building character of troubled teens. If you like a troubled teen drama, this is great, but if you want to see men in rubber alien suits attack people, you must wait.

Normally the reason why you would take so long to build a lot of character and traits is that we would get to know the individual skills of each teen and how together, their diversity would save the planet. Not the case here. They used the latest trend of purple neon light to create something futuristic looking, instead of writing a decent science fiction plot. It appears purple neon has replaced fluorescent green as the true sign of low budget science fiction. They could have created a decent alien subplot but that would have cost money.

Guide: F-word, sex, brief nudity (Charlotte Gould)

Utter Garbage
ouchitmegahurtz10 October 2016
Some movies, especially some cheesy sci-fi or horror flicks are "so bad they're good", this isn't one of those movies.

I'm not one of those people that gives just 1 star or 10. This movie gets a one from me and it deserves it. It's just that bad from beginning to end.

The writing is horrible.

The acting is terrible.

The plot is ridiculous.

Effects are a joke even for a low budget flick.

The characters are completely generic.

The pacing sucks.

The camera work sucks.

The costume sucks.

There is no story structure.

The audio is badly done.

It's hard to write a review of this film without giving spoilers, and the only reason I'm bothering posting this is in the hope that I spare someone else from wasting their time watching this awful train wreck of a movie.

The title and poster are completely misleading. And whoever they quoted on the poster as saying "Indie Sci-Fi At It's Best" must have been either paid or on some serious mind altering drugs.

Dead bore
macdautle29 December 2019
I love bad sci fi movies. Revel in the worst of the horror films. this one, however was so boring I had to give my first one star review. We follow the addicts while waiting for the alien invasion to mix things up. We wait ... and we wait ... and we wait..... ad nauseum. Give this one a pass.

Money-Laundering
bemyfriend-401842 February 2022
I couldn't watch this movie. It was like whoever made it, didn't want me to watch it. I'm not sure why someone made this. Maybe it was part of a tax shelter. Maybe it is money-laundering. Remember the plot for The Producers? They were trying to make a Broadway play, which would fail, so they could keep the investment money. Maybe that was the plan of whoever made this movie. Seen on Tubi, the free streaming site; which has many indie films, foreign films, older major studio films, and now, live TV.

More entertaining than most low budget garbage
hellholehorror18 January 2022
Every science fiction trope is used without irony or any sense of meta. The film opens with the Window 3.1 starfield simulation screensaver. Dialogue is so quiet you can't hear what they are saying, which is good most of the time because you don't want to hear what they are saying. Except the adverts on the free service I'm watching it on are destroying my ears every three minutes! It is ugly to look at and unbelievable unrealistic content. No real story. No original characters. Most of the characters are thoroughly dislikable. Acting is not good but Jon-Paul Gates and Charlotte Gould whose over-the-top performance is just about entertaining. It's all far too rehearsed. The characters act like they have self awareness but in reality they really wouldn't have any understanding of why they do what they do. Pacing is actually tolerable, so much stupid stuff happens it's actually more entertaining than most low budget garbage. The visual effects wouldn't look bad twenty years ago... Now they don't look good. Overall I didn't hate it but I would also say not to waste your time, watch Evil Aliens (2005) or maybe Attack the Block (2011). It feels like an interesting exploration into the nature of addiction set to the backdrop of a cheesy alien invasion. The aliens looked terrible, leather outfit with a bad mask.

A movie about a therapy session for losers
iamrobbbb28 May 2023
What tf was that? It's supposed to be an alien flick, and instead, it's a therapy session for a bunch of pathetic losers. In the last 20 minutes there's a guy in a bdsm suit and mask with the zipper clearly visible.

This was literally just an agenda driven movie to make you sympathize with all the "oppressed people", and a white racist guy. Shocking...What tf was that? It's an okay movie
james-krypke13 September 2022
I viewed Invasion Earth this year. In 2022. The same year of mass protests in my home country, when millions of people marched in protest of the militarization of the police and said police's killings of unarmed civilians. Do you see now why portraying the mass slaughter of civilians as a good thing comes across as tasteless? I'm certain the movie did not mean to come across this way: the filming apparently wrapped in May of 2019, long before the protests began. But given the context of what's been happening in the world, The Blackout: Invasion Earth has already aged like milk left out in the sun. There are certainly good things about Invasion Earth, but I can't in good conscience recommend it.

Like a new Alpha Incident
BandSAboutMovies28 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Eight young addicts attend an experimental group therapy run by self-help guru Doctor Carson. This will keep them out of prison, which a TV reporter sees as a scam. She tries to expose the group but just as this UK movie sets itself up as a thriller, it shifts into science fiction as an alien invasion throws the entire plot into pure chaos. I mean, they do warn us at the beginning that those alien ships are showing up in three months!

You know how you wait for the entire running time of The Alpha Incident for something otherworldly to happen? This is close to that, but not as well made. That said, it has a great poster going for it.

Director Steven M. Smith has tons of direct to streaming videos in production, so good for him for hustling. This isn't bad and there's some promise, so here's hoping I like his next effort even more.

Enjoyable Inde sci-fi
elricktheviking19 October 2016
As a lover of sci-fi and independent movies I found this little gem to be thoroughly enjoyable and lots of fun. The characters are pretty well fleshed out and the plot trots along as a slower pace than most of today's TV and movies, which is a refreshing break.

Having found out how much the budget actually was, lower than previously thought, it is brilliantly made and the limits do not spoil anything. The outside shots are well thought out and the backgrounds are well though out and do not detract from the characters/story line.

I would strongly suggest giving this a watch and have brought it myself.
