30 for 30 Shorts: Delaney (2015)
**** (out of 4)
Excellent and highly touching episode in the ESPN series takes a look at the life of Joe Delaney. We learn that Joe was brought up poor but at an early age he wanted to play football. Even though he was small his desire got him into the NFL where it looked like he was going to have a Hall of Fame career until one day he tried to save some drowning children even though he didn't know how to swim. Joe Delaney is certainly a hero whose name should be better known today. When you consider how many bad people do bad things and they grace sports pages across the country, this film will hopefully serve a good purpose and remind people what a true hero is. I had never heard of this story as I was only three when it happened but the terrific direction certainly touched me. It's rather amazing to see people like this who put others in front of themselves without asking questions.
