Rapper Travis Scott stars in the first trailer for his and director Harmony Korine’s indie film “Aggro Dr1ft,” which was shot entirely in infrared.
The short trailer is bathed in the starkly contrasted colors of the infrared lens, and it follows an assassin on his journey. “Breaking away from the traditional parameters of cinema, ‘Aggro Dr1ft’ explores the onslaught of digital ephemera and interrogates modern life through the vernacular of video games. Shot entirely through an infrared lens, the film follows a Miami Beach hitman as he embarks on the relentless pursuit of his next target,” reads the logline.
“As it is, ‘Aggro Dr1ft’ is visually thrilling but somewhat tedious to sit through — better as wallpaper than the main attraction,” wrote Variety chief film critic Peter Debruge in his review. “Still, as with James Cameron’s ‘Avatar,’ there’s wisdom in the generic quality of his script. Ah Hollywood. The evil temptress where talent often overshadows any sort of character flaw. Many people claim it to be a new development with the advent of social media, where a person tweets out something dumb ten years ago only to have it brought back up when they have a new Netflix movie dropping. But actually, celebrities have seen their careers implode long before people posted pictures of their dinners online for the world to see. Think back to the story of Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle, one of the highest-paid silent film stars of the era whose talent and fame were overshadowed when a woman was assaulted and subsequently died at a party hosted by the famed comedian. Arbuckle was acquitted of the crimes, but his career never recovered. We have never seen a career implosion like we witnessed in 2023 when an emerging talent had a genuine break-out year that was...

We’re only a handful of days into the New Year, but we’re already receiving news of what movies and TV shows will leave Netflix UK in February 2024.
In case you missed it, we’re also keeping track of all of the movies and TV shows leaving Netflix UK in January 2024. If you’re looking for the US removals list, you can find all the departures for those in our February list here.
As a reminder, we typically get word of Netflix removals around 30 days before they’re due to happen. Netflix removes titles because much of its library consists of licensed titles. These licensed titles are essentially rented to Netflix for a fixed period of time, and when that time is up, they’re removed from the platform.

In the first picture, Alia can be seen getting a tight kiss on her cheeks from Ranbir, while the two are in celebratory mode.
Another photo is a solo picture of Alia in which she can be seen wearing a sleeveless white dress, with low neckline, and a butterfly headband. She is seen sitting in a club.
The third picture shows Alia holding her baby daughter Raha in her arms, against the backdrop of sunset, and picturesque sea.
The photo seems to be clicked from one of their family vacations. Raha is cutely waving in the picture.

Jonathan Majors may have just gotten a break as far as his reputation goes, as Grace Jabbari – the woman who accused him of assault and harassment back in March – was arrested for “suspicion of misdemeanor assault and misdemeanor criminal mischief”, according to The New York Times.
Grace Jabbari’s arrest was a result of a counterclaim from Jonathan Majors, who alleged that she was actually the one who assaulted him. However, Jabbari was not prosecuted and was released. She will, however, have to appear in court at a later date. Despite no prosecution, one does wonder how the public perception of Majors may change. It wouldn’t be much of a surprise if there is indeed a shift; just as many declared Majors guilty immediately after his arrest – his talent agency dropped him the month after – there will most certainly be people that point to Jabbari’s arrest and pin her as the guilty one.

Amber Heard has been easing back into official public life gently at Italy’s Taormina Film Festival over the past few days, accompanying the world premiere of her new film In The Fire by Conor Allyn.
Heard stars as an American psychiatrist who travels to a remote plantation in Colombia in the 1890s to treat a disturbed boy and finds herself in a war of science versus religion with the local priest who believes the child is possessed by the devil.
The actress took to the stage ahead of the world premiere against the backdrop of Taormina’s ancient Greek amphitheatre on Saturday evening with Allyn and cast members Eduardo Noriega and Luca Calvani, in her first such appearance since Gully at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2019.

Starring Mary Woodvine, Edward Rowe, Flo Crowe and John Woodvine, the experimental feature shot on 16mm follows a wildlife volunteer living on an otherwise uninhabited island off the Cornish coast in 1973, as her daily observations of a rare flower turn into a metaphysical journey that forces her as well as the viewer to question what is real and what is nightmare.

Jonathan Majors is currently one of the hottest actors today. Majors joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Phase 4 as the next “big bad,” Kang the Conqueror. However, he has been in other productions before, and his notoriety grows with every project. The actor has a quirky trait involving holding a cup wherever he goes, even on red carpets. Majors reveals how his mother’s advice inspired this strange habit.
Jonathan Majors has had a rapid rise to the top
Majors’ first role was in the eight-part docuseries When We Rise. The actor landed the part while still at the Yale School of Drama, playing real-life gay activist Ken Jones. Bollywood A-lister Alia Bhatt is enjoying a roaring 2022.
“Gangubai Kathiawadi,” in which she played the central, title role, had its world premiere as a Berlinale gala screening, was a box office success and was the #1 non-English film and the #1 film in 25 countries on Netflix globally. “Rrr,” in which she’s one of the leads, is one of the biggest Indian hits of the year.
And now, “Darlings,” Bhatt’s debut as producer, via her Eternal Sunshine Productions, is set for a worldwide debut on Netflix on Aug. 5. The film, where Bhatt also stars as a victim of domestic abuse who decides to take matters into her own hands, manages the feat of treating a serious subject with a dark comedy filter, without it being insensitive. It is directed by feature debutant Jasmeet K. Reen and written by Reen, Parveez Sheikh (“Queen”) and Vijay Maurya (“Gully Boy”).

The new year is continuing apace at Hulu. The streamer’s list of new releases for February 2022 is highlighted by one very interesting project.
Pam and Tommy is set to premiere on Feb. 2. Perhaps the Groundhog Day release date is intentional as the show will cover a particular moment of celebrity, sex, and exploitation from the early ’90s that seems to have repeated itself over and over. Sebastian Stan and Lily James star as Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson and the series follows the events and fallout of their homemade sex tape being stolen and unleashed on a nascent internet. If nothing else, getting the promo photos of Stan and James as the ’90s stars was worth it.

BBC One’s hit primetime gameshow “This is My House” has been renewed for an extended run of ten episodes in a 30-minute format.
The guessing game format created by Richard Bacon and U.S.-based TV producer Nick Weidenfeld will once again see four people all claim to be the same person and that “This Is My House.” A panel of celebrities will attempt to tell which “homeowner” is telling the truth and which are the actors.
The first season performed particularly well among younger audiences and was a rage on social media, the BBC said.
“I loved seeing the way the audience responded to the show. Especially on social media as it was happening,” Bacon said. “It’s given me the confidence to lean right into the absurd humor this time. Also, I’m proud of the fact it did so well with young audiences.”

Pop Smoke receives a Baroque-style tribute in the new video for “Demeanor,” the late rapper’s posthumous single with Dua Lipa.
Set during a lavish banquet/party in a castle on a hilltop, the video portrays Pop Smoke both as the subject of a divine portrait on the wall — mimicking The Last Supper — and as a ghostly cloud seated at the head of the table. Dua Lipa appears later in the clip, dressed as Marie Antoinette and showing up in multiple places around the banquet hall, dancing and feasting on the table spread.

There’s a certain kind of music-video director who will seize on the prospect of doing a movie as an opportunity to make a splash. It’s not hard to see why. In-demand video directors work with the hottest talent in the business, and their videos tend to be celebrated as four-minute bursts of genius. “Gully” is the first dramatic feature directed by Nabil Elderkin, the Australian-American director — usually credited simply as “Nabil” — who has made videos for Kanye West, Dua Lipa, Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj, Frank Ocean, the Black Eyed Peas, John Legend, Diddy, Shrillex, and Antony and the Johnsons. You can glimpse his talent in “Gully” — not because it’s a film of showoff imagery (it’s actually got a rather unvarnished low-budget aesthetic), but because the movie looks, for a while, like it’s trying to be “Boyz n the Hood” meets “A Clockwork Orange,...

"Who's responsible... for my misery?!?" Paramount has debuted a official trailer for an indie crime drama set in Los Angeles titled Gully, made by filmmaker Nabil Elderkin, making his first narrative feature film after tons of music videos previously. This originally premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival a few years ago, finally available to watch this summer in select theaters and VOD. Three teens living in L.A., all victims of extreme childhoods, wreak a hedonistic riot across the city over the course of 48 hours, all unbound by societal norms. They take us on a rip-roaring ride of drugs and murder across Los Angeles... The ensemble cast features Kelvin Harrison Jr., Charlie Plummer, Jacob Latimore, Jonathan Majors, Amber Heard, Travis Scott, John Corbett, and Terrence Howard. This looks like one wild and crazy film. As fun as it seems, I haven't heard much about it which isn't a good sign...

At the beginning of the new trailer for the upcoming drama, “Gully,” the film presents itself as a fairly typical coming-of-age story about three friends growing up in Los Angeles. However, that idea gets thrown out of the window pretty quickly when you see what the film really has up its sleeve, as it evolves into a thriller with obvious video game imagery and violence, as the life of the three leads gets thrown into chaos.

Sparkling lights reflect on the car. Murad is the driver – he drives that expensive car for his boss. It’s parked in front of a star hotel and the privileged guests are talking and walking around. The camera pans on the intense eyes of Murad- he wants to break free. He hums – Apna Time Aayega (My or our time will come). And director Zoya Akhtar brings in the flavor of socialism in the epic story of victory of the underprivileged in “Gully Boy”, where dream meets reality.

Amber Heard has only appeared in one movie since she played the female lead in the highest-grossing DC Comics adaptation ever made, and last year’s low budget drama Gully slipped entirely under the radar. The actress may not have lost her job starring in a major Warner Bros. franchise after ex-husband Johnny Depp was booted from Fantastic Beasts thanks to coming out on the losing end of his libel case against a British tabloid, but the negative publicity could soon see offers dry up for the Dceu’s Mera.
So far, Heard has ignored any and all of the backlash surrounding her continued involvement in the superhero sequel, and has even suggested that the campaigns against her are being funded in an effort to damage her reputation. Seeing as the initial petition to have her replaced as Mera in Aquaman 2 has gathered over a million signatures, if her...

This year, the motion picture academy achieved its five-year goal of doubling the number of women among its membership. In all, 819 film professionals were invited to become part of the organization that hands out the Oscars. Compare this intake to the totals of the previous five years: 842 in 2019; a record 928 in 2018; 774 in 2017; 683 in 2016; 322 in 2015; and 271 in 2014.
While Academy Awards nominees are automatically eligible for consideration, the rest of the candidates must go through a fairly cumbersome process. A candidate must meet certain branch specific requirements before even being eligible.
For example, actors must “have a minimum of three theatrical feature film credits, in all of which the roles played were scripted roles, one of which was released in the past five years, and all of which are of a caliber that reflect the high standards of the Academy.” For writers, directors and producers they need have just two of these credits.

All five of our predicted Oscar nominees for Best Sound Editing number among the contenders for the Golden Reel Awards bestowed by the Motion Picture Sound Editors (Mpse). Oscar frontrunner “1917” reaped two bids across the seven film categories as did two of its closest Oscar rivals — “Avengers: Endgame” and “Ford v Ferrari.” The other two expected Oscar nominees — “Ad Astra” and and “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” — are single nominees.
However, we might be underestimating “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and “Joker,” which we have in eighth and nine place respectively at the Academy Awards; they earned a leading three nominations from these precursor prizes. Winners of the 67th annual Golden Reel Awards will be revealed on January 17, 2020
Last year, all five of the Oscar nominees for Best Sound Editing numbered among the Mpse contenders. Eventual Oscar winner “Bohemian Rhapsody” did not contend in the category equivalent — Sound Effects and Foley.

Prolific Indian auteur Anurag Kashyap (“Gangs Of Wasseypur”) is working on a raft of projects across formats. Kashyap was head of the jury for the Asian feature film competition at the Singapore International Film Festival this year.

Things are happening fast for Jonathan Majors. In January at the Sundance Film Festival, the actor became an instant breakout, with a winning performance in Joe Talbot’s wistful “The Last Black Man in San Francisco.” The movie finds Majors playing quirky artist and playwright Montgomery “Mont” Allen, and the role recently scored the 30-year-old Yale School of Drama graduate Gotham and Spirit Awards nominations — but he’s unfazed by the sudden acclaim.
“To me, an award just means your peers are saying, ‘He contributed to the form,’ and I want to contribute to the form much as possible,” Majors said. “I’ve been lucky enough to be busy, but it’s still strange at times. My manager will tell me that so-and-so wants to interview me, and I say, ‘Me? Are you sure they have the right guy?’ So it’s probably just an adjustment I need to make.

The sound and looming shadows of L.A.P.D. helicopters oppressively hover over a South L.A. neighborhood, as three teens come of age in the relentlessly bleak drama “Gully.” The feature is billed as set in a dystopian Los Angeles, but there’s little indication of a true grim dystopy here. Instead, the setting seems more like an amplified version of a real-world crime-ridden neighborhood that you’d see on a Fox news broadcast, where troubled young men live lives of violence and mayhem with little thought for consequence.
