I'm letting you know up front that I am knocking a point off because this episode features Constable Penhale more than many episodes...and I am becoming more and more annoyed by him. His antics are too sit-com like for my taste and even the worst small town would have a police officer smarter and more competent than this complete idiot. In this episode, the village idiot receives a taser!! And, not surprisingly, he keeps pointing it about like an idiot and, like a total idiot, ends up shooting an innocent person and almost killing them. It is funny, though, that almost everything bad that could happen to this poor women did during her and her husband's vacation with Portwenn Fishing Holidays.
Apart from this, a big theme is the Doc's way of interacting with folks. He diagnoses his aunt with a disease instead of interacting with her in a real conversation--this is important later when it turns out she IS ill. But he also treats Louisa on her return like she is a patient and he's later examining his cute young son like he's a patient...and there's nothing wrong with the boy.
All in all, this is a good episode with too much Penhale. I am sure most folks like him but after being in much of the show this long, I'm finding his stupidity a bit tiresome.
