Tragic and Frustrating

Warning: Spoilers
Kevin Cooper certainly was not a nice man prior to being sentenced to death, but as the documentary compellingly argues he may well be innocent of the murders (and presents a strong case that there was police misconduct.) Notably it does not shy away from the fact that previous DNA testing seemed to convict him, instead pointing out the dubious circumstances (the blood vial supposed to contain Cooper's DNA alone had blood from at least two people and while the defense was willing to do testing to confirm this the state got cagey and tried to deny the significance.)

In any case, Cooper's supporters ultimately come across as more mature than his detractors (who come across as arrogant, like DA Mike Ramos, Debra Saunders or Dennis Kottmeir who basically say I don't care when confronted with discrepancies) or deeply incompetent (Deputy Dale Sharp). The show also raises the theory that another man (who incidentally was White) may have been the true killer; at the very least the police investigation was beyond sloppy.

In any case Kevin Cooper's fate is on the edge of a knife; since this documentary he's submitted a final petition for clemency and has also requested more advanced DNA testing that could identify who wore the shirt that had his blood on it (which could settle once and for all if he's a cold blooded killer or an innocent man). Notably the man suspected of being the true killer has surrendered DNA to the defense so at this point regardless of one's opinion there's no reason to delay.
