“I wanted it to feel real. I didn’t feel like the comedy was coming from a parody of a football team,” reveals production designer Paul Cripps about the cinematic and realistic quality of the sets designed for “Ted Lasso.” He calls it “this strange beast in that it has this extra element in its heart. It’s not just a work-based comedy, it’s really about character. So I felt that the environment had to feel real and you had to buy-in to the belief of that.”

In 2017, three actresses from “Saturday Night Live” were nominated in the Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category for the 69th Emmy Awards. That was half the nominees in that category. There is a strong chance Kate McKinnon, Chloe Fineman, Maya Rudolph, and Cecily Strong could break that record. And as much as we love their talent, we’re not so sure that’s a great thing for the Emmys overall.

Will Chloé Zhao’s “Nomadland” win the Oscar for Best Picture? Yes, and it became only the second film directed by a woman to take the Academy’s top prize. Most Oscar pundits agreed the Frances McDormand-starring drama was the one to beat this year considering it’s mostly swept the awards circuit so far, winning Best Picture honors at the Golden Globes, the BAFTA Film Awards, the Film Independent Spirit Awards, and the Critics Choice Awards. Whichever film wins the 2021 Best Picture prize will follow in the footsteps of “Parasite,” which became the first foreign-language winner of Best Picture at the 2020 ceremony.

Sharon Osbourne, the former co-host of CBS’ The Talk who left the daytime show last month after a heated on-air debate about racism, will get a chance to explain why when she guests on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher this week.
Osbourne will be Maher’s top-of-show solo interview on Friday’s episode, Real Time said today.
The appearance will mark Osbourne’s first extended TV interview since the controversy — she was not part of Monday’s episode of The Talk devoted entirely to a discussion of the incident and racism in general. On that episode, co-hosts Sheryl Underwood and Elaine Welteroth described the March 10 incident, in which Osbourne defended her friend Piers Morgan over comments some interpreted as racist and sternly told Underwood, “Don’t you dare cry.”
Welteroth, a Black woman, recalled the Underwood-Osbourne exchange and said she believed Osbourne “was not listening and went off the rails into disrespect.

It is a diverse line up, and a very unusual time but the red carpets are rolling out, even if they are in living rooms around the world.
Yesterday director Ang Lee was entered into the BAFTA Fellowship, and Noel Clarke was awarded the Outstanding British Contribution to cinema. This evening Edith Bowman and Dermot O’Leary hosted the awards and it was a delight to see Yun-Jung Youn’s incredible win for her role in Minari.

Last year’s buzziest title is likely this year’s most intriguing Oscar nominee. “Promising Young Woman,” the directorial debut from Emerald Fennell that stars Carey Mulligan as the title character, has generated strong reviews and thoughtful debates since it first debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January of 2020. In the 14 months since then, a lot has changed — including how audiences are able to watch first-run movies. Ahead, a breakdown of where to watch “Promising Young Woman,” one of 2021’s Best Picture nominees.
Is “Promising Young Woman” on Netflix?
No, unfortunately for Netflix subscribers, “Promising Young Woman” is not available on the streaming platform. That doesn’t mean Netflix is without top 2021 Oscar contenders and Best Picture nominees. Among the Academy Award nominees streaming on Netflix are “Mank” (10 nominations including Best Picture), “The Trial of the Chicago 7” (six nominations including Best Picture), and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom...

One of the last major awards contenders to debut during Oscars season was handsomely rewarded by the 2021 Academy Award nominations. “Judas and the Black Messiah,” which didn’t screen publicly at all in 2020 and made its debut in February 2021 in theaters and on HBO Max, received six Oscar nominations this year, including Best Picture. The film’s placement in the top category is historic: produced by Ryan Coogler, Charles D. King, and writer-director Shaka King, “Judas and the Black Messiah” is the first Best Picture nominee with an all-Black producing team in Oscars history. Among other firsts, “Judas and the Black Messiah” procured first-time nominations for Coogler, Shaka King (both as a producer and co-writer), cinematographer Sean Bobbitt, and star Lakeith Stanfield, who earned a surprise Best Supporting Actor nominations alongside his co-star Daniel Kaluuya.

Barring a last-minute deluge of contenders premiering in time, the race for a 2021 Comedy Series nomination is wide, wide open. Granted, “Ted Lasso” is the easy frontrunner to win it all, but out of the expected eight nomination slots there are only six likely nominees and even that might be a stretch. I mean, did you think “Emily in Paris” would be a Comedy Series Emmy nominee when it debuted last October?

“Nomadland” look home the top film prize at the 2021 Producers Guild Awards Wednesday, bringing it closer to a Best Picture win. The winner of the PGA Awards’ top prize has historically been a strong indicator of which film will will go on to win the Best Picture Oscar. Since 1989, the PGA winner has matched up with the top Oscar 21 out of 31 times. It happened in 2018 with “Green Book,” but not last year: “1917” won at the 2020 PGAs, but the Academy Award for Best Picture went to “Parasite.”
This year, 10 movies competed for the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures (see the full list of nominees and winners below). Seven 2021 PGA nominees for the top prize are also 2021 Oscar Best Picture nominees: “Judas and the Black Messiah,” “Mank,” “Minari,” “Nomadland,” “Promising Young Woman,” “Sound Of Metal,” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”

Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who earned two 2021 Oscar nominations for Best Original Score, reacted to the news on Monday, with Reznor describing the nods to Billboard as “surreal and humbling and incredibly flattering.”
The duo, who secured an Academy Award in 2011 for David Fincher’s The Social Network, are now nominated for the Fincher drama Mank and computer-animated Pixar film Soul (with Late Show bandleader Jon Batiste). Describing the news, Reznor said, “[It’s] another thing that kind of doesn’t seem real in a year when everything starts to blur together.

Megan Thee Stallion is a hot girl winner! The 26-year-old rapper just earned her first-ever 2021 Grammy Award for best Best Rap Performance for her remixed single of "Savage." That means, Megan Thee Stallion is sharing her award with fellow Houston native Beyoncé, who was featured on the hit track. The "Wap" rapper snagged the coveted gold trophy a few hours ahead of the star-studded event on Sunday, March 14. And of course, Megan's reaction and acceptance speech were just as award-worthy. "I'm gonna cry," the rapper began. "Thank you, Lord. God is the first person I want to thank. My grandma, thank you, nanny, for making me stop...

Beyoncé and Taylor Swift are among the most celebrated nominees at the upcoming 2021 Grammys. They are no strangers to the annual award show, having several wins under their belt, and have attended many a Grammy ceremony during their career. Bey, who is nominated for nine awards this year, attended her first Grammy Awards in 2000, with her group Destiny's Child, then a quartet instead of a trio, as they were in their most successful years in the early aughts. Beyoncé later made her solo Grammys red carpet debut in 2004, when she won her first five awards as an individual R&b artist. Taylor received six 2021 Grammy nominations. From making history as the first man (other than founder Hugh Hefner) to grace the cover of Playboy, to being named Spotify's most-streamed musician of 2020 across the globe, to earning two 2021 Grammys nominations, the Puerto Rican singer is hitting all the right notes. Not to mention, Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Martínez Ocasio, is constantly raising the bar with his bright and bold fashion choices....

Awards experts and aficionados hoping to receive some clarity on this chaotic and extended Oscar season were done no favors by the BAFTA Awards this year. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts threw a number of curveballs into the mix for 2021, snubbing numerous assumed Academy Award contenders like Viola Davis, Sacha Baron Cohen, Carey Mulligan, director David Fincher, director Aaron Sorkin, and Gary Oldman and elevating underdogs such as Alan Kim, Dominique Fishback, and Tahar Rahim. There are four major bellwethers for the Academy Awards. The SAG Awards, the PGA Awards, the DGA Awards, and, increasingly, the BAFTA Awards. The Academy, which governs the Oscars, is made up primarily of the aforementioned guilds. Over the past decade, however, there has been more overlap in membership between AMPAS and its British counterpart than decades past. That’s why today’s announcement of the 2021 BAFTA Film Awards was so provocative.
