With the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes continuing to silence their late night shows, the five hosts — Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver and Seth Meyers — will test out another medium.
The quintet announced Tuesday that it would release a limited Spotify podcast, aptly titled Strike Force Five. The arrangement is said to call for at least 12 episodes, which will begin rolling out Wednesday, Aug. 30. Each episode will have all five of its hosts participating in the conversation, though who’s leading it will rotate. The hosts will then give all proceeds to the out-of-work staff from their respective shows.
The concept was born out of weekly Zooms that the late night hosts have been holding since the WGA strike began in early May. The virtual check-ins have been a way for the five men to be aligned during the strike, which saw all of their shows — Jimmy Kimmel Live,...

Kino Industries has entered into a creative and co-financing partnership with Rocketman financier Starlings Entertainment.
As part of the deal, Starlings will establish a fund for film and TV development, also meeting co-financing and P&a commitments on projects shared with Kino.
To this point, Kino Industries has been best known for creating CtrlMovie, a “pioneering, interactive technology” allowing film and TV audiences to have real-time collaborative influence over the direction of a story and its characters. The first CtrlMovie production involving Starlings Entertainment will be Echo on Sunset (working title), a feature from BAFTA-winning director Tobias Weber (Late Shift), who co-founded Kino Industries and invented its “proprietary, patented film, streaming and gaming experience.”
Echo on Sunset is a life-or-death crime thriller set in Los Angeles, which blurs the lines between good and evil. The CtrlMovie audience acts as the moral compass of its protagonists, and is forced to navigate...

Developed and published by Wales Interactive who have previously worked on games we’ve reviewed here on Nerdly such as The Complex, Late Shift, The Infectious Madness of Doctor Decker, and The Shapeshifting Detective; Maid of Sker is not unlike those games in the sense that there’s a strong story at the core of it, and everything else is secondary to a degree. This game, however, unlike The Complex and another Wales Interactive title, The Bunker, is less linear and more explorative, giving the player a chance to make their own decisions (to some degree). I liked that aspect, as well as the fact that the game goes deep into horror territory.
The story follows Thomas, who we play the game as. He receives a letter from his love, Elizabeth, about strange things happening at Hotel Sker where she is locked up in the attic, hiding from danger. Once you reach the hotel,...

As he wakes, he realises he’s not alone, as he’s greeted by the mysterious Alana Skill (Tolhurst), and together they start piecing together what’s happened and try to plot a course back home.

That’s right; Sony’s back at it again with yet another new sale.
An impressive – or overwhelming, you could say, given the extent of these particular discounts – number of games encompassing almost every genre under the sun have had their RRPs slashed this time around, some of which can be yours to keep for not much more than the price of your morning coffee. There are three categories to choose from here, with enough variety to account for all tastes and price ranges. Let’s start with the biggest super savers first, though.

Whilst we’ve reviewed a number of Wales Interactive’s Fmv releases, this is actually the first time I’ve played one of their games for myself. You see, I felt out of love with this particular sub-genre of video gaming some years ago and have only just got back into playing this style of game thanks to the Limited Run Games releases of Night Trap on the Nintendo Switch, and the re-release if the underrated “classic” Double Switch on the PS4. Both of those titles featured brilliant remasters of games from the 16-bit era, when Fmv was delivered on cartridge and video compression was virtually unheard of. In the intervening years, despite huge leaps in technology, it seems the Fmv genre was somehow left in the past for many.

‘Late Shift’ is a 2016 interactive film directed by Tobias Weber. The key feature of the movie is that every single viewer of the film can download the app called Ctrlmovie and choose the options of how the plot of the movie should develop. In case a group of people is watching the film at the movie theater, the variant that has got the majority of votes will be selected.
Not that many films are made in such a way that the viewer gets to have their say in the process of plot development. Thus, the movie “Late Shift’ offers a unique experience for a viewer. The usage of digital technology helps to develop a certain bond between the director and the viewers. What is more, it transforms the passive experience of watching a movie into an active one.

The newest Fmv gem from the Welsh gaming mecca of Bridgend builds upon the precedent set by Wales Interactive’s previous releases but this time more than ever I felt the constraints of the genre, although the end result is still as polished and enjoyable as I’ve come to expect from the studio.
In The Shapeshifting Detective you play as ‘Sam’, who has been tasked by a shady, bearded man to solve the murder of a young woman named Dorota, a crime seemingly committed by one of three tarot readers staying at a guesthouse in a town called August. The twist in the tale is that ‘Sam’ can morph into any other character that he meets and so as he questions each suspect and even meets with the local chief inspector he is able to take their form and re-interview people who will give different responses dependant on their relationship with said character.

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of Fmv games, Wales Interactive have released some thoroughly enjoyable games recently with The Bunker and Late Shift and I also played the mystery game Contradiction which although flawed was an enjoyable experience. With The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker, despite its plus points, I found myself wearying of the limitations of the genre and couldn’t work out if I was just expecting too much or if I was just burned out from playing too many similar games on the trot.
The mystery that forms the backbone of the game is that one of Dr Dekker’s patients has seemingly murdered him and you are the replacement therapist who has to not only try to solve his murder but also cure his patients along the way. The game plays out through several chapters which are split into days, on each...

Wales Interactive have continued their explorations into the Fmv genre with this, their newest title and whilst these games will always have their detractors due to the level of interaction / game length, it’s difficult to find fault with Late Shift as it’s such a stylish, well-acted and directed crime thriller that holds up well to repeated plays.
The game starts off with the main character, Matt a university student who moonlights as a security guard in an underground private car park talking about the importance of even seemingly minor decisions in life. The high production values are instantly clear to see with swooping aerial shots of London at night and expensive vehicles galore, there’s not an Austin Montego in sight.
What starts as a typical sleepy late shift for Matt quickly morphs into him being dragged into a heist against his will, leaving the rest of his...

Filmmaker Joshua Brucker and producer Kate Riffe have announced that Bill Oberst Jr. has joined the cast of short film, The Late Shift, as The Patient, the film’s antagonist.
The Late Shift follows Beth, a night-shift nurse tasked with babysitting a quiet and near-empty patient wing. All is calm until a mysterious patient is brought it, exhibiting a high fever and sporting terrible wounds. He’s stabilized and all returns to normal. But Beth is new to the late shift and she eventually closes her heavy eyes and accidentally drifts asleep. When she wakes up, however, not all is as calm and safe as it once was. Her new patient, she finds, harbors a dangerous and deadly secret that could cost Beth her life.
Said Brucker, who is making his directorial debut with this film:
As a child, I remember the emotions I felt watching the classic horror films.
