Joanna Scanlan is back as DI Vivienne Deering. She literally is back on duty after taking time off work for bereavement as her husband died. As you may recall she killed him when she found out he was a serial killer.
In the opening episode of the second series the cops attend a service in a crematorium for the son of a local gangster and there is an explosion. It seems a bomb was hidden inside the body of the deceased. Everyone would had died but for the fact that the body was buried out in the back somewhere because the owners of the crematorium could not afford the gas bill.
Like the last series, this episode sends up the cop show genre and provides thrill of its own. The arc for this series looks to be an ongoing feud with rival gangsters.
One issue I have is Paul Ritter (born in Kent) who really overdoes his Mancunian accent. I have relatives in Manchester and he makes them sound like poncey southerners.
