Naked and Afraid contestants suffer through a lot if they want to win the show. One thing that they have to contend with is that they are naked. This means that every part of their body is at risk and nothing is protected as they traverse through the wilderness settings. This came back to bite one cast member who suffered an injury “down below.”
This is also the second time that he injured himself in the same spot. The first came one year ago. Here is what you need to know.
Naked and Afraid Suffers Second Injury In A Year
When contestants go on Naked and Afraid, they know there is a strong risk of injury. Hurt feet, broken bones, rashes, and burns are all common when people are traveling through the wilderness trying to survive. However, one contestant suffered his second injury in a spot where no man wants to deal with pain.

Naked and Afraid is no joke. The Discovery Channel reality series follows people as they fight to survive in some of the most extreme environments on Earth. Participants battle extreme weather and rough terrain in the hopes that they can last three weeks in the wild. Wild animals are also a very real threat, with cast members sometimes sharing space with dangerous predators such as lions and alligators. Fortunately, no one has died on the show. But has anyone actually been attacked on Naked and Afraid?
‘Naked and Afraid’ cast members are often attacked by insects
The idea of being attacked by a lion, crocodile, bear, or other wild creature is undoubtedly terrifying. But for many Naked and Afraid cast members, the real threat comes in a much smaller package. Often, survivalists must endure painful bites and stings from insects and spiders. And those tiny critters can do serious damage.

Naked and Afraid is a reality show like none other. The Discovery Channel series drops pairs of people into remote locations and leaves them to fend for themselves – without food, water, or clothing. With just one survival tool each (such as a machete or fire starter), they’re challenged to last 21 days in the wild.
Unsurprisingly, many people don’t make it the full three weeks. Medical crises, loneliness, and hunger have all prompted people to tap out early. But thankfully, no person’s Naked and Afraid journey has been cut short for the most serious reason of all: death.

The report from the Yavapai County Medical Examiner has confirmed the cause of death for Naked And Afraid contestant Melanie Rauscher, who died in July in Arizona. According to TMZ, she died of difluoroethane toxicity, and cans of dust cleaner were discovered next to her body while she was dog-sitting at a residence while the homeowners were on vacation. The report says the Naked and Afraid contestant “inhaled the toxic propellant, leaving her unresponsive” and drugs and alcohol were not involved. Rauscher appeared on the hit Discovery Channel reality show in 2013 and then again in 2015 in the spinoff series, Naked and Afraid Xl. The series puts people in the middle of nowhere and then takes away the clothes off their backs. Two survivalists are tasked with surviving 21 days. Her co-contestant in Africa, Jeremy McCaa posted a note about Rauscher recently to his Facebook Page, thanking Discovery “for having a special...

It isn’t easy making the most divisive movie of the year. Just ask Darren Aronofsky, whose “mother!” has polarized critics and audiences alike since premiering in Venice a few months ago — and left the writer/director “traumatized” by the whole experience. During an appearance on IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit Podcast, Aronofsky revealed that he doesn’t “want to do anything right now” other than catch up on TV.

Summer 2017 will unfortunately be remembered for its real-life horrors, from Nazi-loving white supremacists marching in Charlottesville to the devastation of Hurricane Harvey in Texas. Americans looking to escape the barrage of bad news didn’t do it in the movie theaters, where domestic box office was at its lowest in decades. But they did flock to television — and two shows in particular.
HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” aren’t new, but they are small-screen staples that experienced tremendous ratings lifts this season. Even as audiences continue to move to streaming services and other platforms, there’s still room for appointment TV, as viewers still watch linearly (or, at least, relatively fast via time-shifting) in order to stay in the pop culture conversation.

There has been a lot of drama in this season of Naked and Afraid Xl.
Literally hours after he stripped down in Ecuador, participant Charlie Frattini severely twisted his knee while gathering firewood. It was the first of four foot injuries that resulted in people leaving the adventure. Matt Alexander left after his foot was injured. Lacey Jones then hurt her knee and was evacuated.
But none of the injuries were as devastating as Day 20, when the tribe’s main provider Matt Wright got a flesh-eating bacteria in his foot, a development that could have resulted in amputation or even death.

By all accounts, Matt Wright was the tribe leader on Season 3 of Naked and Afraid Xl. An avid hunter, he caught the first big game animal in the show’s history, a wild boar. He was admired by the rest of the participants as he helped minimize drama and maximize cooperation.
Wright, 34, was a Naked and Afraid veteran. He survived 21 days naked in Thailand during the miserable rainy season with partner Lindsay Boisclair. He later had a Naked and Afraid experience in Belize with People’s Steve Helling. He seemed well-positioned to complete 40 days in Ecuador.
But it wasn’t meant to be.

Chance Davis and Melissa Miller had made it.
They had survived for 20 days in Ecuador and were going through the extraction process on Naked and Afraid. They were just a few hours away from food, showers and clothes.
And then: a twist.
The two survivalists were rowing their makeshift raft down the river when they found a colony of other naked people — specifically, the cast of Naked and Afraid Xl, who had been having a simultaneous adventure just a few miles away. (The regular Naked and Afraid experience is 21 days; the Naked and Afraid Xl adventure lasts 40 days.)

Naked and Afraid Xl continues on Sunday night. The show started out with 9 people, but multiple injuries have forced three paritipants to either quit or be evacuated. In last week’s episode, two of the men went exploring — and came across a camp with two women.
So how did they get along? There’s an exclusive clip above, and we got some inside info from Naked and Afraid participant Matt Wright. He shares with People what it’s like for two naked men to meet two naked women in the rainforest.
The first few minutes of Naked and Afraid are always awkward.

Naked and Afraid Xl continues on Sunday night, and by all accounts, it looks brutal. In the preview above, we see another leg injury. Will the third participant leave the show?
At this point, the hunger is beginning to set in. The participants haven’t had a square meal, and their bodies are beginning to shut down. Although the show casts avid hunters on the show, no one has ever gotten a big-game animal to feed themselves — until last week.
Veteran Naked and Afraid participant Matt Wright managed to get a huge pig — and then he had a frightening standoff with a wild boar.

It has been a brutal season of Naked and Afraid Xl.
Twelve participants were sent to the African Badlands to survive for 40 days. In the first 28 days, four participants either tapped out or were medically evacuated.
Then came day 29.
After eating tainted fruit that the show helpfully told us were probably "contaminated by the saliva or feces of bats or monkeys," four participants fell deathly ill in a 24-hour period.
Three people have been medically evacuated, while the fate of the fourth, Jake Nodar, hasn't yet been aired. (We'd be willing to bet that he's also out of the challenge.

Remember the last time you got really sick? That time that you could do nothing but throw up and curl into a fetal position on your bathroom floor? It was awful, right? Now imagine having the same thing happen when you're out in the wilderness. Naked. With lions hunting you. That's what happened to Ryan Holt, a participant on this season's Naked and Afraid Xl. Stuck in the African Badlands, the 31-year-old from Roxbury, Maine, fell ill while out on the 40-day challenge. It's unclear whether Holt ate something bad, drank some tainted water, or simply had his body give out.
