I suppose the more I get into the River, the more I'm vaguely reminded of The Life on Mars format, it's very quirky, but it definitely works, we've been starved of more 'off the cuff shows.'
The third episode sees investigations continue into Stevie's death, River looks deeper into her brother, whilst being pushed hard by her protective and charismatic mother Bridie. Chrissie Read, his boss, once again tells him to get off the case, and crack on with his own work, but Stevie is never out of his thoughts. He manages to access her phone messages, hearing something very disturbing.
This is a very dark episode, the other reviewer mentions the story is quite depressing, true enough, there aren't the touches of humour that have been present in the first two parts. Eddie Marsan is insanely good, I knew we were going to see more of his menacing character.
Once again, this is TV at its absolute best, fantastic from start to finish. Exceptional viewing.
9/10
