Like most things in life our views are colored by our own background personal interests. I am the son of a commercial fisherman and fully understand and appreciate these folks' lifestyle. I am also around many sports fishermen who believe any commercial boat on the ocean is a threat to the world and their pastime. I personally enjoy recreational fishing (although would never classify myself as a "sports fisherman"). I also believe both commercial and sports fishermen contribute to the depletion of our fishing stocks, but it doesn't make either bad people.

I will say that sports fishermen GREATLY underestimate the amount of collective fish they take from the ocean and the impact it has on our stocks.

I also believe that if not for commercial fisherman then a vast population of the Country (if not the world) would have no access to seafood. Remember, not everyone lives on a coastline. It also goes without saying that other than perhaps a few reality TV stars, no one is getting rich off of commercial fishing...most are just trying eke out a living and work very hard for very little.

Big Fish Texas is a pathetic representation of reality
petesmart-6965917 March 2016
The show has fundamental flaws with what actually goes on with the Texas Fishery. People like "Buddy" that believe a national natural resource is their family right and profit from it, drive a political movement that the resource belongs to the people to support their business. Wake up people... this is for their personal financial gain and for no other reason. They do not have any more right to this national resource than anyone else.

The National Geographic show is not accurate. There are many basic flaws with facts not to mention they don't even state the correct fish species that is being caught.

If any of you readers live and fished on the Texas coast and were able to see what really goes on here you would be as angry as I am after watching this show.

How about a show that documents what "Buddy" has actually done do develop the fishery besides profit from it.

Please do not support this commercial enterprise. What they show on TV is not factual let alone not factual to what really goes on.

Pete Kurtz.

Great Show!

I love this show! I'v bought seafood from this market for many years while on vacation in Galveston. The people have always been so very friendly and the seafood is excellent quality and delicious! I've seen many of the people in the show at the market and they are not acting, that's really how they are in real life. Buddy Guindon and family have really built an empire and it's inspiring to see someone start something from the ground and build it into such a successful business. The Guindons are still down to earth and are devoted to their family, employees, and customers. Big Fish Texas is very entertaining, I can't wait for season 2. Big Fish Texas is the talk of the internet and chatter is through the rough. Good job NatGeo, you've definitely got people talking.

Crony show

What they fail to tell you is they preach being conservationalists but they are raping the ocean for profit.

If that's not awful enough they are paying off politicians to vote to eliminate the ocean to ordinary Americans.

Divide and conquer as usual thru means of d.c. Corruption.

Not opinion but fact.

Don't support this show and shame on Nat geo.

I thought this network was for protecting the wildlife and natural resources.

No longer can fathers and sons take for granted that they can drop a line and fish without fear of intimidation from people like buddy searching to harass us while we are law abiding Americans having family time.

We eat too people.

Great show!

I'm grateful for all the commercial fisherman who work hard to bring fish to the people who don't have access to it. Not everyone has a boat or access to the Gulf so without them most people wouldn't be able to enjoy fresh fish. It's obvious from the show that Buddy takes the sustainability of the fish very seriously and he wants the preserve the fishery for years to come. He has worked very hard over the years to ensure that his family will be able to continue commercial fishing for years to come. The show is informative and entertaining and it's wonderful to see such a hard working family doing well! I'm hopeful for season 2!!!

Help all fisherman not one

Warning: Spoilers
That show and Buddy makes me sick to hell. Buddy is not the only ones that has family. What about all the Marinas, motels fish camp. Karma is for reel Take it off the TV! They go out and catch thousands lb of fish, and we can't catch one! The Government should give ALL Fisherman a grant to raise farm snapper, clams, oysters, Talia also catfish farms. Leave the limits but open all the season year around, then watch the week and weekend fisherman come back. The boats sales would come back strong, Everything would grow for all not just one family. It is a shame that the Government would allow this to happen. I love wicker tuna because they have to go by the Law and limits even the length but not Buddy Fish his family just kills everything and don't care. Don't forget he has a family and so do a lot of people.

Great fishing show.

This is a great show for people like me interested in deep sea fishing and the business of commercial fishing. It does not have all the set up drama of most of the other shows. It is just a great show about fishing and a Texas family who lives off commercial fishing. They need to have a second season and they will see that the audience will be there. I have no idea why a review needs to be ten lines so I will have to put a bunch of words here to get to 10 lines. This is one of the dumbest things I have ever seen. Why does it have to be ten lines. What if I don't have ten lines to write. This review is now nine lines and soon it will be ten lines. Hey lookie there it is now ten lines

Nat Geo should be ashamed.

This show is pathetic and disgusting. It paints one family has holier than thou and portrays the recreational sector as thieves and chosen 1 percent club that run around in yachts stealing "Buddy's fish". They rape five and ten thousand pounds of fish of one spot while the recreational guys can even get one day to fish for red snapper on the east coast for 2016. Yet they are so irresponsible that they are forced to sell 10,000 lbs of snapper for dog food because they don't have a buyer for it. Then they come close to losing another ten thousand pounds this week because they let themselves run pout of ice. Makes me sick!
