Jenna Ortega rose to prominence following her titular role in Netflix’s Wednesday. Tim Burton’s show significantly changed the trajectory of Ortega’s career, as new opportunities started coming her way. Soon, the actress turned into the “scream queen” of Hollywood, as people began appreciating her soaked-in-blood, perfectionist roles.

Jenna Ortega is undoubtedly one of Hollywood's most talented rising stars. The actress was involved in some pretty big projects as a child, then gained recognition for her performance as young Jane in Jane the Virgin, for her starring role in Disney's Stuck in the Middle and her participation in Netflix's You. Now we know Ortega as the new Scream Queen, the new Wednesday, and a great dramatic actress with a lot of interesting movies coming up in the next few years.
However, Jenna Ortega's latest feature film role is not her most successful to say the least. And it's not even about the actress' performance, she doesn't deserve such a badly written character and script.
We are talking about the erotic thriller Miller's Girl, in which Ortega starred alongside none other than Martin Freeman. Unfortunately, the movie was panned by critics and audiences alike and flopped at the box office.

Wednesday Addams is famously unlike her peers. But when actor Jenna Ortega took on the role in Netflix’s original series, Wednesday, she saw a bit of herself in her character. What Ortega called the main similarity between her and her small-screen counterpart, plus why she initially passed up the role.
Jenna Ortega shares Wednesday’s sense of sarcasm
Ortega, whose first major TV role was Disney’s Stuck in the Middle, has a lifelong connection to Wednesday. In a Bustle interview, she revealed sarcasm is something she and her Wednesday character share.
“All throughout my life, people have told me I gave off a Wednesday vibe, at least in terms of sarcasm,” she said. “I need to watch my sarcasm sometimes because I think people think I’m too serious.”
Additionally, Wednesday stood out for Ortega. The Yes Day actor confessed she’d “never been more intimidated by a project.

Ahsoka‘s midseason episode, “Shadow Warrior,” was billed as such a big event by Disney that it even played in select theaters on premiere night. And it’s for good reason: the fifth episode of the live-action series doesn’t only see the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker but also sends Ahsoka traveling through time and space to her years as a young padawan during The Clone Wars. Jenna Ortega is living the dream with the title role in Netflix’s smash hit Wednesday, but she has revealed she very nearly turned down the role.
Tim Burton’s supernatural comedy horror telling the story of young Wednesday Addams’ coming of age beat Stranger Things for the most amount of streamer hours watched in its first week on Netflix, where it became the second most watched English-language show in the platform’s history.
In her title role, Ortega has swiftly become a global star, not least for her dance scene in the fourth episode, which has become a TikTok craze, her fans across the world creating their own versions.
Now, Ortega – who showed off her comedic chops on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live – has revealed she initially wasn’t interested in the role.
She told the UK’s Times:
“No, I didn’t. I got the email, passed on it.

Jenna Ortega could have starred in a remake of The Parent Trap.
Ortega, who was a child actress and star of Disney Channel comedy Stuck in the Middle, did, however, give it a go on Saturday Night Live.
She teamed with her Wednesday co-star Fred Armisen to read through the lines, while Bowen Yang directed.
Ortega, who was not born when the Lindsay Lohan-fronted remake of The Parent Trap premiered in 1998, may have aged out of actually starring in a new version of the body identical twin comedy, but in the skit, she played both 11-year-old twins Hallie Parker and Annie James.
Armisen, as Raymond, was just helping out reading the lines, or was he?
The Parent Trap, which was based on David Swift’s 1961 Hayley Mills-fronted comedy, starred Lohan as well as Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson. It was directed and co-written by Nancy Meyers.
Ortega, who was a child actress and star of Disney Channel comedy Stuck in the Middle, did, however, give it a go on Saturday Night Live.
She teamed with her Wednesday co-star Fred Armisen to read through the lines, while Bowen Yang directed.

Jenna Ortega is the definition of booked and busy. The talented actor has been building up her resume for over a decade, and her tenacity has certainly paid off. In the last few months alone, Ortega has been promoting two very high-profile projects. First up, was her titular role in the wildly popular Netflix series, Wednesday. Since then, Ortega has also been promoting Scream 6, where she reprises her role as Tara Carpenter. Ortega has more than earned a vacation, but is she planning to take one? It turns out that the actor is intentionally carving a full month out of her schedule to take some much-needed time for herself.

Jenna Ortega may just have become a household name after runaway hit “Wednesday,” but the rising talent has been in Hollywood for over a decade, starting her career at just 10 years old.
Ortega, who also sings on top of her acting, marked her onscreen debut with a 2012 episode of “Rob.” Just one year later, she played the Vice President’s daughter in Marvel’s “Iron Man 3.” The Disney star appeared in “Little Rascal’s Save the Day,” “Know It All Nina,” “Richie Rich,” and “Stuck in the Middle” before breaking into the horror genre. A longtime scream queen, Ortega’s credits include “Insidious: Chapter 2,” “Babysitter: Killer Queen,” “You,” “X,” and, of course, “Scream” and the upcoming “Scream 6.”

Jenna Ortega has no shortage of acting and personal accolades. Most recently, the "You" season two star has (begrudgingly) won hearts as the queen of deadpan, Wednesday Addams, in Netflix's Addams Family revival, "Wednesday."
But Ortega was a major actor long before her new Netflix role. She earned her first acting credit at 9 years old in the television show "Rob." And then, in 2014, she won fans worldwide with her portrayal of young Jane on "Jane the Virgin." In 2016, she was cast as Harley Diaz, the main character in the hit Disney Channel series "Stuck in the Middle." Clearly, Mickey Mouse is a fan because Ortega also went on to voice Princess Isabel in the animated TV series "Elena of Avalor."

What’s your favorite scary movie?
Well, “Scream VI” star Jenna Ortega already has a list of her go-to horror films.
The “X” and “Wednesday” actress made her debut in the “Scream” franchise with 2022’s fifth installment. A newly-minted scream queen (literally), Ortega’s lifelong love of horror and gore has framed her decade-spanning career.
“I love horror films. I don’t know what it is about having blood thrown on your face and running around screaming bloody murder,” Ortega said during “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” in January 2023. “It really is so therapeutic, so much fun.”
However, Ortega has never pigeonholed herself solely as a one-note horror actress.
“I never really considered it because a lot of what I do is horror, and they all have these moody and nasty qualities, but what I love is that they also have a sassy teenage nature,” Ortega told Who What Wear.

Over the last few years, both Jenna Ortega and Olivia Rodrigo have seen a massive boon to their careers. Rodrigo went from releasing her first single, “drivers license,” to headlining her own tour and scooped up a few Grammys along the way. Meanwhile, Ortega became a household name thanks to her titular role in Netflix’s Wednesday. As the former Disney darlings accrue more and more success, their schedules become increasingly intense. However, that seems to be just the way they like it.

Jenna Ortega is going old school to stay grounded.
The “Scream VI” star has filmed back-to-back projects like “Wednesday” and “X,” but Ortega is now looking for a break by way of dated technology.
“There’s a month of this year that I want to take off, and I’ve made it very clear that I’m going to take this month off. I’m going to travel, I just got a flip phone, I’m just going to be hidden for a while,” Ortega said in an Elle cover story. “I have to work things around my schedule to make sure that that month stays open. There’s a part of it that’s stressful because it’s like,’‘Oh my God, can I tell this director that I don’t want to work these two weeks? Can I?’ I don’t know, but I am also making the rules.

You is officially back for season 4, and fans of the Netflix series are eating it up thus far. And while there are plenty of new characters for viewers to explore, many are still nostalgic for some old favorites. Jenna Ortega’s Ellie Alves, for example, is someone who continues to come up time and time again. Though Ellie was only briefly mentioned in season 3, her impact on the sophomore season of the hit show makes fans hopeful she’ll reappear.

At age 20, Jenna Ortega already has an impressive resume. A former child actor, the California native has been performing since she was nine years old. Ortega got her start in commercials before she was cast in TV shows like Jane the Virgin and Stuck in the Middle. Following her stint on the Disney Channel, Ortega has begun to earn her reputation as a screen queen, starring in projects like Scream and, most recently, Wednesday. But focusing so heavily on her career may have contributed to Ortega having an existential crisis.

Jenna Ortega is getting a lot of buzz lately due to her portrayal of the iconic Wednesday Addams in the Netflix series, Wednesday. To say that the comedy-horror show is popular would be a gross understatement. In fact, Wednesday has become of the streamer’s most popular shows of all time. Thus, it’s a little hard to believe that, at one point, Ortega was on the fence about joining the cast. The 20-year-old had finally broken into movies, and she wasn’t sure she wanted to return to doing TV shows.

Jenna Ortega has undergone a remarkable transformation. She first began doing national commercials as a kid before making the leap into TV, initially scooping up bit parts on network television. Slowly, those roles got bigger and bigger until her first break came with landing young Jane in The CW's "Jane the Virgin." She suddenly had everyone's attention, and she then entered her Disney era with roles in "Elena of Avalor" and "Stuck in the Middle." Eventually, Ortega was ready to break away and do other things, but worried she would be put into only one box.

Scream queen and horror's current "It-girl," Jenna Ortega, has signed on to star and produce in a coming-of-age romantic drama that's being described as Richard Linklater's "Before Sunrise" meets "The Perks of Being a Wallflower." The film, "Winter Spring Summer Or Fall," is the feature directorial debut of Tiffany Paulsen, who folks may know for writing the films "Holidate" and "About Fate." The script comes from Dan Schoffer, who wrote the script that was used in the Starz filmmaking competition show, "The Chair," which became Shane Dawson's "Not Cool" and A.M. Lukas' "Hollidaysburg."
In an interesting bit of casting news, Ortega will be starring opposite her "Wednesday" co-star, Percy Hynes White, who played Xavier Thorpe on the Netflix series. The duo will play a pair of teens who "meet and fall in love over four significant days of the year," according to a report from Deadline.

At only 20 years old, Jenna Ortega has already accomplished a goal that not every former child star can boast: she's built up such an exciting filmography, that the world seems to have collectively forgotten she was once a Disney Channel starlet. Much of this is owed to her extremely eventful 2022. In the span of 12 months, Ortega has been making the rounds as the star of two different successful slashers, an animated "Jurassic World" spinoff, a meta-horror-comedy about the Foo Fighters, and the titular role of Netflix's (allegedly) record-breaking series, "Wednesday." Any one of those roles would be a major accomplishment all on its own, but becoming a bonafide scream queen in the same year that she dons the twin braids of the beloved Addams family daughter? Ortega has a lot to celebrate.

It's been over two years since we first heard about "65," the sci-fi horror flick starring Adam Driver, but Sony Pictures is finally giving up the goods and giving us our first look at the highly-anticipated film. "65" has run the gamut regarding release dates, which can sometimes be a sign that a studio truly believes in the final product and is working toward the best possible release strategy. Based on the impressive creative team in front of and behind the camera, we can only hope this is the case.
Sony released a teaser for the trailer drop yesterday, featuring roughly 25 seconds of footage of Driver sleeping on the ground in what looks to be a cave on a desolate planet. The environment looks damp, dark, and filled with unseen terrors that Driver will certainly have to fight off.
The teaser starts with his character being awoken by a sensor alarm going off.

Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones doesn’t know whether ‘Wednesday’ will be renewed for a second season on Netflix.
The 53-year-old actress portrays matriarch Morticia Addams in the Netflix series that stars Jenna Ortega in the title role of the gothic teenager but admitted that the cast is unaware if more episodes are on the horizon, reports aceshowbiz.com.

Her comments come just days after former ‘Stuck in the Middle’ actress Jenna said that she had always been compared to Wednesday – who first appeared as a cartoon character alongside her gothic family in a 1930s comic strip – but she still had to make some “physical” adjustments to be able to carry off the role.

Fans have labelled Jenna Ortega a “prophet” after a resurfaced clip shows her predicting her future as Wednesday Addams.
Years before Ortega landed her starring role as the titular daughter of Netflix’s Wednesday, an adaptation of 1992 classic The Addams Family, the young actor led her first series on Disney Channel’s three-season comedy Stuck in the Middle.
The then 14-year-old Ortega portrayed Harley, the middle child of seven who comes up with creative means to stand out in her crowded household.
During an episode from its debut season, Harley’s attempts at scheduling a park day for her family are dashed when she realises her family’s calendar is already packed with her other siblings’ activities.
“This is what happens when there are seven kids, and you’re stuck in the middle. If my family was a week, I’d be Wednesday,” she tells the camera.

This post contains spoilers for Netflix's "Wednesday" series.
2022 has been a banner year for Jenna Ortega. While she's been working for a decade now, it wasn't until her roles in "Jane the Virgin" and "You" that she caught the world's attention. She's since appeared in several shows, including "Big City Greens," and a slew of high-profile films, such as "Scream" (2022) and "X." Along with excellent turns in "The Fallout" and Netflix's "Wednesday," Ortega has commanded the conversation. She's more than a scream queen: Ortega is the moment.
Ortega's body of work also includes appearances in television series like "Stuck in the Middle" and roles in "Insidious: Chapter 2" and "The Babysitter: Killer Queen." Her other credits this year include "Carnage" and "Studio 666," a Dave Grohl-produced horror-comedy. Whenever Ortega appears on screen, you'll know it. She draws you into her world with performances that are grounded, authentic, and complex.

Jenna Ortega is currently having A Moment. She's spent the year carving up roles in various horror films like the recently released Ti West slasher, "X" and early 2022's reboot, "Scream."
Though Ortega has starred in many horror shows and films throughout her career, she first started gaining recognition through her work on the Disney Channel where she played Harley Diaz on the show "Stuck in the Middle." The show revolves around Diaz as she tries to cope with the trials and tribulations of growing up within a large family.
Now, Ortega has left all of that behind and is currently slated to take on the spooky-ooky role of Wednesday Addams in the soon-to-be-released Netflix show "Wednesday" about everyone's favorite Addams family member. The show, which is predominantly directed by Tim Burton, is set to premiere on November 23rd, just in time for a good ol' pre-Thanksgiving Day binge.

In March of 2010, Deadline announced that Tim Burton was officially in production on a stop-motion animated version of "The Addams Family," based on the famously macabre Chas Addams comic strips that ran in the New Yorker. The ghoulish characters were to be designed to look like their original drawings, and it was to be released in black and white. The project was canceled, rumor has it, when Universal lost the film rights to the property. Burton did not make "The Addams Family," but he did end up leaning into a black and white, stop-motion animated film in 2013 with "Frankenweenie," a remake of his 1984 live-action short film. MGM eventually took the reins on the "Family," and released a CGI animated film in 2019. MGM's film, which starred Charlize Theron and Oscar Isaac, was popular enough to warrant a sequel in 2021.

Get your snapping fingers ready! In the new TV show “Wednesday,” Netflix puts its own spin on the iconic character Wednesday Addams, a goth teen girl living in a supernatural world. The concept is based on the original “The Addams Family” cartoon first published in The New Yorker in 1938, which of course has been adapted through the decades into other media including television and film. Alfred Gough, Miles Millar and Tim Burton developed the new project for Netflix, which stars Jenna Ortega in the titular role as a high school student at Nevermore Academy.
The TV series boasts an enormous cast including Luis Guzman and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Wednesday’s parents, Gomez and Morticia, plus Isaac Ordonez as her brother, Pugsley. Other notable players are Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester, Victor Dorobantu as Thing and George Burcea as Lurch. All eight episodes will debut on the streaming service on November...

Jenna Ortega has been around the Hollywood block for over a decade now, ranging from Disney Channel sitcoms ("Stuck in the Middle") to Netflix originals ("You"), but 2022 has been the year where she's finally kicking in the door. The hits have only kept coming with "Scream," "The Fallout," and "X," which /Film's Matt Donato calls a "slick and stunning original slasher." Any star would be lucky to have this many hits, let alone in the span of a single year.
The best part about all of this, however, is that Ortega's next big spooky project is only about a month away with "Wednesday," a reinterpretation of "The Addams Family" that focuses on the clan's peculiar daughter at the mysterious Nevermore Academy.
Everything we've seen so far from the Netflix series gives the impression that Ortega is the most natural evolution of Wednesday Addams since Christina Ricci, who also shares a role in the show.

Premiering on October 25, 1997, Under Wraps was the inaugural Disney Channel Original Movie. The cornerstone of the network’s programming proved to be as close to appointment viewing as it got for ‘90s kids, along with the likes of ABC’s Tgif and Nickelodeon’s Snick. Moreover, Under Wraps served as a gateway to horror for many millennials. Before the age of streaming, catching a mummy movie on the same channel where you watched Disney cartoons and Boy Meets World reruns could have been your first exposure to the macabre.
Disney attempted to recapture the magic with last year’s Under Wraps remake. The original movie was successful — and continues to hold up 25 years later — for several reasons; relatable kid leads, a great Halloween atmosphere, and a sense of humor chief among them. Director/co-writer Alex Zamm and co-writer William Robertson (Inspector Gadget 2) smartly maintained those elements for the new iteration.
