The episode is an homage to the iconic John Hughes movie The Breakfast Club (1985). The premise of a group of kids enduring detention on a Saturday with an uncool teacher and interacting with the school's custodian closely mimics its inspiration. There are also many other allusions including the episode title, the opening sequence of the kids being dropped off by parents, and the parody of the Simple Minds song "Don't You (Forget About Me)".
This is the only episode where Principal Spoors is actually seen.
