Jay Sandrich, the prolific Emmy-winning TV director who was an instrumental player in such series as “The Cosby Show” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” died Sept. 22 in Los Angeles, CAA confirmed. He was 89.
Sandrich was beloved in the creative community and was considered a mentor to a generation of TV directors, notably James Burrows. Sandrich had a major influence on TV comedy as the director of pilots for “Soap,” “The Golden Girls,” “The Bob Newhart Show,” “Empty Nest,” “Night Court” and “A Different World.” His career began on the set of “I Love Lucy” and stretched through “Two and a Half a Men.”

Molifilms comedy-drama Gloves Off is underway in the UK, with a cast including Brad Moore, Ricky Tomlinson and Denise Van Outen.
Writer-director Steve Nesbit’s (North v South) feature follows a former boxer who must train a charge for a bare-knuckle encounter in a bid to raise money to save his local gym.
Brad Moore (Montana) stars (and co-writes) alongside Alan Ford (Snatch), Denise Van Outen (The Only Way Is Essex) and Matt Barber (Downton Abbey), while there are also roles for Ricky Tomlinson (The Royle Family), Paul Barber (The Full Monty) and stand-up Tom Crane.
Producers are Gareth Maxwell Roberts (The Mortician), Lucy Selwood (Golden Years) and Lawrence King (North v South).
The film is the third film in a slate of Eis-backed features including Golden Years and horror Thea.
Shoot will take place in and around Leeds until October 16.

Alchemy has picked up Us rights from Metrodome International to werewolf thriller Howl.
The deal was negotiated by Caroline Couret-Delègue of Metrodome and Samantha Fabin from Alchemy.
The Paul Hyett-directed (The Seasoning House) feature, starring Ed Speleers (Downton Abbey), Shauna Macdonald (Ripper Street) and Sean Pertwee (Dog Soldiers), tells the story of a midnight train stranded in a forest and attacked by a terrifying pack of werewolves.
Special makeup effects guru Hyett has worked on titles including The Descent, The Woman in Black and Ironclad.
The film is produced by Ed King and Martin Gentles for Starchild Productions. Script comes from Mark Huckerby and Nick Ostler (Me & My Monsters). Lee Brazier executive produces for Av Pictures.

Antonia Thomas is to star a new supernatural thriller Thea which has just started filming in London. She stars alongside Luke Norris (recently seen in Poldark) as a young couple in London whose lives are turned upside down when the birth of their first child is accompanied by terrifying entities that threaten their newly formed family.
Antonia (represented by Curtis Brown) graduated from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 2009 and immediately landed the role of Alisha in E4's Misfits, a role she played for three series. She was nominated for the Best Female Newcomer Empire Award for her role in hit musical-feature Sunshine on Leith. She recently played the lead role of Evie in new comedy series Scrotal Recall for Channel 4 as well as the love interest in last summer's hit Northern Soul on the big screen.
