- [Grace Van Dahl and her children tell Elijah Van Dahl the truth about Oswald Cobblepot]
- Grace Van Dahl: He's a notorious criminal. We've been sheltering a killer.
- Grace Van Dahl: [Grace holds the newspaper up] We could have all been raped and murdered in our beds.
- Sasha Van Dahl: [Sasha repeats after her mother] 'Raped and murdered.'
- Elijah Van Dahl: [Elijah reads the headline of the paper] They call you the Penguin?
- Oswald Cobblepot: [Oswald stands up facing Grace] To be fair... I never raped anybody.
- Grace Van Dahl: Oh, well, that's a mercy, now, isn't it?
- [Elijah Van Dahl tells the Van Dahl family his house has ghosts]
- Grace Van Dahl: [around the dinner table] Do you believe in ghosts, Oswald?
- Oswald Cobblepot: Yes, I do. I've seen them.
- Elijah Van Dahl: This house has several of them. But don't worry, they're all quite friendly.
- Grace Van Dahl: Don't listen to him. There are no ghosts here.
- Elijah Van Dahl: Oh, there's ghosts, all right. This house was built by my grandfather. He died here. His wife and two sisters also passed away upstairs. And my poor dear parents. Yes, many ghosts.
- [Elijah Van Dahl tells Oswald Cobblepot that he's his only true blood relative]
- Elijah Van Dahl: You are my only true blood relative, Oswald.
- [as Sasha Van Dahl shatters her glass at the dinner table with her hand]
- [Elijah Van Dahl admits to Oswald Cobblepot that he has demons]
- Elijah Van Dahl: [Oswald sees his father's medicine] They're for my condition.
- Oswald Cobblepot: Your heart?
- Elijah Van Dahl: I have a hole in it. It keeps getting bigger apparently. I think my demons are feeding on it.
- Oswald Cobblepot: You have demons?
- Elijah Van Dahl: Sadly, I do. You, too, I fear.
- [Elijah Van Dahl defends his son Oswald Cobblepot and his former past]
- Elijah Van Dahl: My son told me about his past. He just didn't tell me how famous he was. You're too modest, son.
- Grace Van Dahl: Elijah... a violent criminal in our house?
- Elijah Van Dahl: Grace, relax, he's changed. Redeemed. You're not this man anymore, are you?
- Oswald Cobblepot: [Elijah looks to Oswald as Oswald pleads to his father] Oh, no, sir.
- [Elijah Van Dahl chooses to believe Oswald Cobblepot is no longer a killer]
- Grace Van Dahl: How do you know? How do you know he's not?
- Elijah Van Dahl: I've looked into his soul. I've seen his beautiful heart.
- Elijah Van Dahl: [Elijah continues to read the paper about Oswald as Grace walks out of the room] 'The Dapper Gangland Kingpin.' Ha!
- [Harvey Bullock talks on the phone with Harvey Dent about Jim Gordon]
- Harvey Bullock: Dent, they got him in general population now, F Wing. You know what that means? Everyone we've ever put away is in there! Stop saying that. There's always something you can do. A retrial, or have him transferred to another prison for God's sake. You know what, just keep doing what you always do, which is nothing!
- Harvey Bullock: [Bullock slams the phone down when he see's Edward Nygma] Ed. He's wasting away in that place while the real killer's out there somewhere, eating donuts and getting laid.
- [Oswald Cobblepot admits his sins to Elijah Van Dahl]
- Oswald Cobblepot: There's so much I haven't told you. So much that I'm ashamed of. I was a criminal. I've done... horrible things. Hurt people, manipulated, lied. For power, for revenge. I've killed people, father.
- Elijah Van Dahl: [Elijah puts his hand to Oswald's face] Our lives together started the moment I met you at the cemetery. Nothing before that concerns me. I forgive you for all your past transgressions. Be free of them and live here in peace.
- [Jim Gordon meets the inmate Puck Davies]
- James Gordon: I'm not a detective anymore.
- Puck Davies: Oh, I know. You're way more than that. You're a true hero. Two winters ago, my little sister was abducted by child snatchers. Three days she was gone. And then you found her, and-and busted the scum that took her. You saved her life and dozens of others. Right there, that's a true hero.
- James Gordon: Just doing my job.
- Puck Davies: [Puck smiles rolling his head] No, sir.
- [Jim Gordon asks the inmate Puck Davies what he's in for]
- James Gordon: What are you in for?
- Puck Davies: A girl. A beautiful girl. I asked her out and she said yes. And she was classy. I couldn't make her take the bus, so I snatched a car. Well, borrowed it. I was gonna take it back. Cops didn't believe me, so here I am.
- James Gordon: What'd they give you?
- Puck Davies: Six years.
- James Gordon: Steep.
- Puck Davies: Hey, I can't complain. I broke the law, right? The law is the law.
- [inmate Puck Davies tells Jim Gordon that he won't die in prison]
- Puck Davies: I'm not gonna be like my grandfather. He died in here. And wouldn't let me and my father visit him after a while. But finally we did. Last time I saw him, he was different. Didn't recognize him. That's not gonna happen to me. No, sir, I won't die in here.
- James Gordon: [Gordon walks up to Puck] Then stay away from me.
- [Warden Carlson Grey tells Jim Gordon that he knows everything]
- Warden Carlson Grey: [to the prison guards] Watch this one. He just lost a child. Makes him mad. That's right. I hear everything. I see everything. Everything you know, I know.
- James Gordon: I know something you don't know.
- Warden Carlson Grey: Yeah, what's that?
- James Gordon: [Gordon in a low voice] I know what kind of man you are.
- [Sasha Van Dahl asks her mother what do they do next with Oswald Cobblepot]
- Sasha Van Dahl: What now?
- Grace Van Dahl: Plan B.
- Sasha Van Dahl: What's plan B?
- Grace Van Dahl: [Grace combs her daughter's hair back] You are, my dear.
- [Sasha Van Dahl holds Oswald Cobblepot in his bed as she tries to kiss him]
- Sasha Van Dahl: I guess we're just a couple of crazy mixed up kids.
- Oswald Cobblepot: [Oswald slips out from under Sasha] Restrain yourself, woman! I'm your, practically your brother. What are you thinking?
- [Elijah Van Dahl fits Oswald Cobblepot into a bright Italian suit]
- Elijah Van Dahl: A man can say so much about himself by what he wears.
- Oswald Cobblepot: [Oswald chuckles] I couldn't agree more.
- Elijah Van Dahl: I weep for today's casual youth.
- [Elijah Van Dahl tells Oswald Cobblepot the truth about his grandfather]
- Elijah Van Dahl: I lied to you, son.
- Oswald Cobblepot: Oh?
- Elijah Van Dahl: My father was never physically ill. He only suffered a deep melancholy. He was plagued by dark impulses, evil thoughts of violence. Mother said many in his family had the same affliction. I remember the sound of the gunshot. I was outside his room. I screamed for my mother to get the key. I saw the warm gun in his hand. The blood. His face. Mother said never to talk about it. For years after the funeral, we never left the house. I don't pretend to understand my fathers torment. But I think perhaps you do. I feel for you, and I beg of you, my son. Never give in to the pain as he did. You are loved, and you are not alone. And the sun will come up tomorrow.
- Oswald Cobblepot: [Oswald smiles while tearing up] Thank you, father.
- [Harvey Bullock visits Jim Gordon at Blackgate Penitentiary]
- Harvey Bullock: Damn. You look good, brother. This place agrees with you. Maybe I'll check in. Lose a few pounds, hmm? Get a cool tat.
- James Gordon: [Gordon shakes Bullock's hand with a stern face] You don't need to check up on me.
- Harvey Bullock: Are you kidding? Highlight of my week to see your smiling face.
- [Harvey Bullock tells Jim Gordon to not let the loss of his baby break him in prison]
- Harvey Bullock: Hey, don't let this beat you.
- James Gordon: It's good to see you, Harv.
- Harvey Bullock: [Gordon begins to walk off] Jim, I'm gonna get you out of here, I promise. Jim, don't let this break you! Don't give up hope.
- [Sasha Van Dahl tries persuading Oswald Cobblepot to join her against her family]
- Sasha Van Dahl: Whatever you've got planned for the old man, I want in.
- Oswald Cobblepot: In?
- Sasha Van Dahl: We could do great things, you and me.
- Oswald Cobblepot: I suppose. I hadn't...
- Sasha Van Dahl: If you and me work together, we could have it all. We could even squeeze my mom and brother out.
- [Grace Van Dahl tells her kids that they must get rid of Oswald Cobblepot]
- Grace Van Dahl: When he dies, Cobblepot will get what's rightfully ours. That old man was a shriveled-old wreck when I met him. I made him feel young again. I brought him back to life. And what has this gutter rodent done? Play stupid board games and whined about his wretched mother. That vermin has to go.
- Charles Van Dahl: But he likes it here. How can we persuade him to go?
- Grace Van Dahl: [Grace holds her drink up] How do you get rid of rats?
- Charles Van Dahl: Glue traps?
- [Elijah Van Dahl tells Oswald Cobblepot that he wants to give Oswald the family house]
- Elijah Van Dahl: Now I feel like a drink.
- Oswald Cobblepot: [Oswald chuckles and sniffles] Uh... but your health.
- Elijah Van Dahl: To hell with that.
- Elijah Van Dahl: [Oswald chuckles as Elijah takes a drink] I want you to have it all my son. This house and all that's in it. Keep it just the way it is, a piece of history. Our history. Gotham's history.
- [Carmine Falcone asks Jim Gordon what he wants to do]
- James Gordon: I want to go find Lee. But to do that, I have to clear my name. And to do that, I have to go back to Gotham.
- Carmine Falcone: So there's your answer.
- James Gordon: Part of me says run. I'm breathing fresh air. I can't go back inside.
- Carmine Falcone: If you run, you've got to keep running. Some people can live with that.
- [last lines]
- James Gordon: [Jim Gordon finds Puck dead in the passenger seat of the ambulance] Puck? No. No, we made it. Come on! Don't give up! Puck?
- Harvey Bullock: He's gone. Jim, he's gone.
- [Warden Carlson Grey tells Jim Gordon that he's being moved to the general population]
- Warden Carlson Grey: Well, it's time to move you.
- James Gordon: Where to.
- Warden Carlson Grey: F Wing. 'World's End.' General population. This should not come as a surprise to you. Protective custody is just a temporary privilege, one which can't be sustained for a sentence as long as yours. Perhaps you have an appeal pending, in which case I can prolong its arraignment.
- Warden Carlson Grey: [Mr. Grey removes his glasses] That's got to sting just a little, no? Your people seem to have abandoned you. Being convicted for murder has its downsides. Don't fret so. I'm sure you'll see a lot of familiar faces over in F Wing. Many of which you arrested yourself.
- [Warden Carlson Grey and Jim Gordon walk pass a privileged cell, and walk Gordon to an empty cell]
- James Gordon: That one wasn't mine?
- Warden Carlson Grey: If you show yourself as a team player, anything is possible. You a team player, Gordon?
- James Gordon: [Gordon pauses] I love it.
- [Warden Carlson Grey tells Jim Gordon the rules at Blackgate Penitentiary]
- Warden Carlson Grey: Follow the rules, and perhaps you'll survive. Break them, and you most certainly won't. It's why they call this wing 'World's End.' For most here, it's exactly that, the end. Only way out: Parole or a body bag.
- Warden Carlson Grey: [Mr. Grey adjusts his glasses] And nobody gets parole.
- [Elijah Van Dahl asks Oswald Cobblepot if his mother had a happy life]
- Elijah Van Dahl: Did she have a happy life?
- Oswald Cobblepot: No. Not a happy life. But a good one. She never hurt a soul.
- [Oswald Cobblepot tells his father he was not always a good son]
- Oswald Cobblepot: I was not always a good son, and she never spoke a word of reproach.
- Elijah Van Dahl: Not a good son? I find that hard to credit. A nice young man like you?
- Oswald Cobblepot: Believe me. I've done bad things.
- Elijah Van Dahl: [Oswald shakes his head] We're all sinners my boy.
- [Sasha Van Dahl tries to seduce Oswald Cobblepot]
- Oswald Cobblepot: Please, call me Oswald. I-I'm not that man anymore.
- Sasha Van Dahl: There isn't a little bit of Penguin left? A little bad boy?
- Oswald Cobblepot: [Oswald shakes his head] No.
- Sasha Van Dahl: [Sasha opens up her shirt] I got a little bad girl in me.
- [Jim Gordon visits the beaten up inmate Puck Davies at the infirmary]
- James Gordon: You hang in there, huh?
- Puck Davies: [Puck reaches to hold Gordon's arm] Listen... don't give up hope. I feel your sadness. I do, but... you got to choose life, you know?
- James Gordon: Okay. Choose life.
- [Harvey Bullock tells Jim Gordon that he's a fighter]
- Harvey Bullock: You're a fighter, Jim. You got knocked down. Do you stay down? Or do you get back up?
- [first lines]
- Bullish Guard: [Jim Gordon lays in his cell bed when the prison bars slide open, to all of the inmates] On your feet! Let's go!
- Bullish Guard: [the guard keeps ordering] Step out! Line it up! Face right! Walk!
