- Maggie gets upset when Meredith dodges her questions about DC; Bailey and Ben become concerned about Ben's brother after he is admitted to the hospital, and Dr. Herman starts to warm up to Arizona. Meanwhile, Richard begins to feels manipulated by Catherine.
- Meredith gets back to the hospital after her weekend in D.C. with Derek, but awkwardly avoids talking too much about it. Callie, meanwhile, vents to Hunt about how she used to be good at one-night stands and now she just wants to sit at home in her pajamas.
Dr. Herman is undergoing a scan when Arizona starts talking about how Jo stepped into her shower that morning. Dr. Herman gets a good laugh out of it. Catherine starts asking Webber about whether he's seen Jackson, but he reminds her she's supposed to be giving Jackson some space. Alex gets more and more curious about Meredith's weekend, but Pierce says she doesn't know anything.
Ben's brother Curtis seems to be in some pain as they wrap up the scattering of the ashes. He loses his breath for a moment and falls over, rolling down a steep hillside. They rush him to the hospital. There, he insists there's nothing wrong with him. Another woman, Hillary, is brought to the E.R. after taking a fall down some concrete stairs in a park following a marriage proposal.
Hunt confronts Dr. Herman about stealing the couch from the attendings' lounge. She teases him, seductively offering to have him test out the couch. He's uncomfortable and she says she's messing with him.
Meredith tells Curtis that his estrogen levels are high, but he doesn't seem to want to talk about it.
Hillary tells the doctors that she faked fainting and fell down the stairs because she didn't want to break Todd's heart.
Meredith tells Curtis she's going to remove his spleen, but Ben starts getting in Curtis' face about whether he's doing drugs. Curtis insists he isn't. Outside the room, Ben seems panicky as he tells Bailey he doesn't want to lose his brother. When Ben goes away, Bailey wonders aloud to Meredith whether Curtis doing what she thinks he's doing.
Pierce tells Meredith that Derek called three times while she was gone over the weekend. She says she's not judging, but it's clear that Meredith wasn't with Derek. Meredith says nothing. Curtis starts coughing up blood.
Dr. Herman gets a kick out of Alex giving Arizona a hard time about checking Jo out around the house when she's naked, and the revelation that the hospital's anti-fraternizing policy is because of Arizona's actions with a resident.
Hillary starts opening up about how Todd is so overbearing and she started pretending to faint so that he'd stop talking.
Hunt asks Amelia about Dr. Herman, suggesting that her behavior has been strange, including the stealing of the furniture and the flirting. Hunt stammers through whether he's at all interested in Dr. Herman, then hurries away.
Ben's worried that his brother is using drugs, but Bailey tries to talk him down. She tells him he should talk to Curt, but it seems like she's hiding something. She finally tells Ben that Curtis is transitioning, is transgender and wants to live life as a woman. Ben is speechless for a moment, then laughs and asks Bailey if Curtis put him up to that. Bailey isn't laughing, and Ben's face turns to stone.
During Curtis' surgery, Meredith starts asking Pierce what she said when Derek called. Pierce made up stuff, she says, but she hates lying. Ben is outraged and confused about Curtis, but Bailey urges him to be supportive.
Dr. Herman asks Arizona about which resident she was hooking up with, then tells Arizona that she's "a dirty, dirty girl."
Callie and Amelia lament the fact that they no longer have any game.
Jackson is annoyed at having to answer questions from his mother, who stuck around the hospital in order to run into him.
Meredith tells Pierce that she's not cheating on Derek, but insists that she doesn't have to explain herself to Pierce. Pierce asks Meredith to call her babysitter next time and leave her out of it.
Todd comes to Hillary bedside after her surgeries and Callie prompts Hillary to tells Todd how she really feels. But Hillary fakes fainting again, and Callie tells him that Hillary wants to break up with him and is faking the fainting. Callie tells Todd to go start looking for the right woman. Once he's gone, Hillary thanks Callie.
Ben confronts Curtis about the sex change, and Curtis says he's known since he was 5. Curtis says he wants to be happy. Ben storms out of the room.
Catherine and Webber have a heart to heart about where their relationship stands. She tells him he needs to be OK with being with a powerful woman.
Meredith tells Pierce she didn't get on the plane, but left the airport. She says she didn't know how to tell anyone, so she stayed at an airport hotel all weekend. Pierce says she understands and apologizes for bugging Meredith and asking questions. Meredith thanks her for understanding.
Bailey confronts Ben, telling him she's disappointed in him. Ben says he can't get over the fact that Curtis waited 25 years to tell him, and that he feels like their whole life together was a lie.
Bailey brings Jackson over to see Curtis. Curtis tells Jackson that his new name will be Roslyn. Jackson tells Curtis he's going to start taking only approved hormone treatments.
Arizona and Dr. Herman talk, and Dr. Herman says her life is better now that she has "nothing/" Arizona offers to stay with her at the hospital overnight, and Dr. Herman tells her she's not going to have sex with her.
Amelia shows up at Hunt's trailer and asks him if he wants to hang out. They wind up kissing.
At the bar, Callie tries to get a guy's attention, but then decides to get up and ask him to dance. They dance.
Meredith goes to Alex's place and tells him she never got on the plane, instead going to a hotel. She says she kind of loved it, not being someone's parents, wife or doctor, for the weekend. She tells Alex she definitely doesn't want to leave Derek, but she definitely doesn't want to be with him right now.
