Skip the 2nd half
steveamstutz5 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The first half was good. I like disaster movies and I'm a Christian so this was right up my alley. We don't know how the events of the end times will unfold, but I believe this show did a fairly decent job in portraying a possibility. The second half, though, was way off the mark. Unlike the beginning that centers on Isreal and all the horrors going on there, the second half is totally American-centric. The battle of Armegedon will be for Isreal, not America. Yes America, along with the rest of the world, will suffer the effects of the tribulation, but we won't be the center of it. Also, when Jesus returns, every eye will see Him (Rev 1.7), and I don't mean a strange weather phenomenon. The Antichrist doesn't just die mysteriously either. He is cast into the pit along with the false prophet, who is not in the film. Again, if you like disaster movies, the first half was plausible but skip the second half. If you want to find out more about the Antichrist, read your Bible. I also recommend looking up the author Joel Richardson who, I think, has a pretty good grasp on things.

Stick around for Part 2
billsoccer1 January 2015
The basic premise is familiar. The (Christian) rapture occurs and those left behind attempt to interpret and react. An important event if/when it comes to pass, to be sure. Perhaps I've been desensitized by other disaster movies, but the first part left me disappointed. Surely if a large group of people disappear at one time those left will be more inquisitive? I reluctantly stuck around for part 2 and was glad I did. The storyline was better thought out. The scenarios were imaginatively presented. Not a masterpiece, but not a bad try either. Portraying prophesied events is no easy task. Here's hoping that other storytellers pick this thread up and try again.

Good idea poorly executed.
Mrvictorgomez1818 October 2022
The subject of the prophecies of Revelation in the bible is such a great idea that can give a lot but I feel it was poorly executed and not to mention the special effects were not good to see so I could not enjoy the series as I was expecting also the plot was kind of boring in some parts of the mini series. On the other hand, there's more than United States feels like the Apocalypse was exclusively for USA and I just say it because I think it would have been amazing to see different escenarios and stories lived through the eyes of other cultures and people but well I think we can't ask very much for a low budget mini series produced by History Channel.

I wished the world would end when I saw it
JanersM27 April 2015
Like many other movies and miniseries about this topic, this work is horrifically bad. It was poorly written, acted, and produced. It is almost laughable how awful this thing is. This is worse than some of the bad science fiction movies that I watch for kicks. It sticks to a convoluted interpretation of the Christian apocalypse that opportunists like Kirk Cameron, Jerry B. Jenkins, and Tim LaHaye have used to line their pockets for years, but the overused plot not even the worst aspect of this thing.

The shaky camera style is reminiscent of The Blair Witch Project, which fits well with the other poorly executed parts of the miniseries. If you are prone to vertigo, migraines, seizures, or motion sickness, especially if these have been triggered in the past by past movies or television shows, you might want to avoid this for health reasons. If not, just avoid it for quality reasons. It's not entertaining enough to justify wasting so much time on it.

Spectacular in its badness
agolddog4 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Came across this night. One of those films which keeps you watching to see how much worse it can get.

As an example, the part I saw was set in New Orleans; however, the film editors were too lazy to make sure the stock footage at least wasn't *obviously* wrong. Both a police/military force with Cyrillic lettering on their uniforms and the Staples Center made an appearance.

Sigh. Fascinating in the same way a train wreck is. Which is kind of appropriate, I guess.

On the plus side, the electricity never went off despite Armageddon, so they were able to keep their laptops/cameras fully charged.

Somewhat of a good depiction. Bad acting
cherielynn-9533919 March 2019
It is not determined that everyone who is Christian will be taken. That is only option on very few bible verses. The children will be taken up by God. Only he knows. We are very very close. We ARE definitely being watched though. Talked to many ppl about this. So anyone who can posts may end up a martyr. Jesus save us in your grace.

Good subject, poorly represented
mauvemoonlight30 December 2014
I had looked forward to this mini-series. I like disaster films and what could be a better subject, but it was so poorly done it was virtually unwatchable. They decided to make it like a homemade documentary with the camera jumping around all over the place, characters poorly introduced and some scenes so dark the viewer could not tell what was going on. No real cohesive story telling, it jumps around as much as their camera shots.

I watched an hour of it before giving up, and will not bother with watching part 2.

A major disappointment.

decent adaptation
lemuel198529 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I have to admit that I went into this event with moderate expectations and I am satisfied by what I have seen so far. Not the best show ever but does a good job in presenting the events and a really good adaptation of those events. A good thing is that the show doesn't try to push any agenda, it presents what they where selling, a dramatization of the book of revelations. It does a good job at describing and showing all the events but the acting, as expected is not that good. A nice and interesting show, not the best thing ever but not the worst thing ever. I am really waiting for the next part tomorrow. They left all the better events for the last part as expected.

The 1 stars have completely missed the point.
rosanna-833354 June 2023
First, I'm by very far not a bible freak. I am also very far from a conspiracy theorist. Last I have only seen first half at this point and it is 2023.

There is clearly a misunderstanding of what this is meant to be. It is not meant to be a disaster movie, it is not meant to be a documentary. What it is, is an amalgam of real footage (mist scenes) linked together through actors and fictional events. It is not that it is poor filming, it is meant to look that way. It's like they wanted to make a fictional documentary but using tons of actual footage.

We are shown true events, floods, revolts, war, illness, fires snd even meteors falling to earth and the maker has taken all of these events and put them in relation to the bibles end of days.

The images do not automatically correspond in location to what they tell us. It's not meant to be.

What is important is that it is easy yo see why some round think that we are currently at the end of days.

What I find even more astonishing is that so many things that are shown have happened dunce. It's a bit scary. They talk about a virus that was studied in a lab and that got out causing a pandemic. It looked like they were depicting covid in so many ways to the point I thought the film was made in 2023 but set in 2016. Of course not all has come true or not in the amplitude depicted but so many things are similar. No I don't think this is the end. I can see why dome would. I can also see how this is going yo fuel conspiracy theorists (or has). I mean the bad big pharma that already had a vaccine, let loose the illness in conjunction with the health authorities to then vote in and save the day with the vaccine that solidifies their power. This is exactly what CT said about Covid.

In conclusion, it is interesting to watch but do not take things at face value or as truths.

Horrible filming, done by someone that knows little about the Bible
quillinmom30 December 2014
I had to laugh at the politically correct rapture. The writers, who know very little about Biblical prophecy and history, picked and chose verses they thought could fit and ,many times, rewrote them to fit their story. I realize this was fictional, the way they chopped it up they should have left any reference to the Bible out. Sure they had a couple of the characters, but this was absolutely horrible. The filming could have been done better by amateurs. Next time, read and study your source yourself, and don't rely on someone to tell you what it says. It was sloppy, and poorly done. I would be embarrassed to have my name associated with it. History channel, I know you are biased against the Bible, but this made a fool of your channel.

Excellent!
beckaction4 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This seems like it was purposely produced to warn us of what is coming. You will find that Christians are the worst critics of it. "It got this wrong, it got that wrong," etc. The majority of Christians today are in false churches and are obsessed with SELF. They consider themselves all knowing and all seeing when in fact they are enabling the coming of the Antichrist.

This movie wasn't perfect - the ending for instance was a huge letdown, but hey it was just the last five minutes of the film. Everything else concerning the portrayed events is really already going on in one form or another. The persecution of Christians in America is well on it's way; we have a tyrannical president who promised hope and delivered hell; the military buildup with weapons returning from war in the Middle East is already happening.

Also loved how they interpreted the booms and trumpet noises as being harbingers of the last days - something that is really going on and in the news everyday and many of believe they ARE signs. They used real footage of actual events throughout the movie - even getting in the house-to-house raids in Boston after the bombing.

Maybe all the so-called Christian critics didn't recognize that much footage was taken from real life. They were too busy hating.

The whole idea of government created pandemics, disposing of the elderly and infirmed - that's already here too, though not on the mass scale portrayed in the movie -- but we're getting there.

This movie was awesome! Yes I hated the shaky camera "Blair Witch Project" cinematography, but maybe - just maybe - that will be the appeal to the younger people who live as quickly and shakily as the camera angles in this digital age.

It's coming folks; and regardless of who tries to pick apart the scripture presented in the movie - most of it was pretty accurate.

They left out the false prophet and the Pope etc., but hey - it wasn't perfect.

It was, however, a prophetic warning delivered to the people to wake them up. Let's hope it will get through to some people and the the Christians don't ruin it for everyone or impede other's salvation by continually dissing this movie.

And by the way, people who have not watched an entire movie should not, IMHO, write a review. That's like turning in your book report after the first chapter.

Felt like a humanistic attempt at re-telling Revelation to fit secular ideals.
DrabMac3 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know who thought it would be a good idea to do a story on Revelation without ever reading the Bible but that's what we've got here. Someone picked up a Bible and ripped a few verses screaming and bleeding out of context and tried to weave a humanistic interpretation of how Revelations should be told. The "anti-Christ" supposedly kills himself or is shot by his own forces and "Jesus" supposedly returns in some unseen way and doesn't even show Himself, let alone stay and set up His millennial kingdom. In the end we're left to believe that "man" starts to make things better, slowly, for himself. It's the same pure humanistic, anti-God drivel that I've come to expect from these channels. Four wasted hours of my life that I'll never get back... what a joke, and truly sad for a World that deserves to know the truth of Jesus' return at the end of days!

what I wrote are about things that scripture says will happen, not what was portrayed in the movie, but just fyi:
cmcnaul22 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I read several other reviews and agree with most of them. Those coming from people of faith I felt were far more informative than the reviews from those who are apparently of no or little faith.

I was completely annoyed with the so called "trumpets" blast that sounded familiarly like alien movies like The Mist and Cloverfield.

The storyline barely followed prophesy or scripture. As another review noted that when the second coming of Christ appears in a 'cloud of glory', ALL will see Him. I don't believe just believers will see him, but every man, woman and child will truly see Him for who He is.

This movie leaves one in great confusion as to what happened and who, when and where! I believe by unbelievers will already hate those of the Christian faith to the point that laws will be enacted to make Christianity illegal. Being blamed for all that ails the world. No one really knows when the anti-Christ will appear, though the Word says we will see the shadow of his approach. The unbelievers will be so glad to get rid of us, they'll probably be scared when the rapture occurs, then rejoice when we're gone. There will be a remnant of those left behind that will know they missed "the first train" home. When that's all done and over, then the really scary 'caca' hits the fan! The unbelievers by this time will know God was and is real, yet hate Him with every fiber of their being. So much so, that they will think they can actually beat Christ in the Battle of Armagedon and meet at Megiddo to fight the war to end all wars. None of this is featured in this series of movies(so there is no spoilers to warn)....Perhaps it was History Channel's intent to portray "the end times" in such a benign way? If that's so, then they achieved their intentions very well making this series. Only time will tell, as we are seeing the signs of Christ's return more and more than ever before.....as the Word 'also' says, '.....as you begin to see these happen, look up for redemption draws nigh."(Luke 21 and Romans 3)

Very poorly done!!! Annoying cinematography, weak plot, and choppy story
ChristianJohn3 January 2015
This absurd fiction piece is unbelievably boring. It is not worth watching, or should I say it is unwatchable. The cinematography is annoying, the editing is erratic, the plot is not engaging, the story is contrived. It begs to believed at every turn. The fact that this attempt at suspense is on the History Channel. This attempt to lure unsuspecting viewer to poor biblical programming demonstrates the desperate alliance between deluded Christian evangelists and Hollywood carpetbaggers. These stories lack substance and foster dangerous conspiracy theories and give validity to barbaric eschatological fantasies.

Revaluation: the end of days is religious propaganda disguised as entertainment. Why bother calling it history when it is obviously fiction and supposedly a prediction of future events by a book that couldn't describe the world around it or one basic scientific reality. Not one! If The History Channel wants to show accurate biblical history, they should return to the previous programs and historians, archaeologists, biologists, chemists, cosmologists, and other purveys of fact, and in fact, history.

Silly story looks like footage with lines added
drystyx19 July 2021
This story of "we're in the final days now" pretty much fails. It isn't a horrible failure, just a failure.

The characters are horribly written. In fact, it looks like there are really only about three characters spread out over dozens of characters. In other words, the same character is written into different parts.

For example, the cop who becomes a convert and the assistant to the bible guru who becomes a convert are exactly the same character. Why even bother writing two characters who are clones?

So, this isn't the least of the problems of the writers. As pointed out,it looks like it was written by someone who glanced over the bible once, maybe read through the modern King James version, and did zero research.

It's quite lame. Not totally lame. Just quite lame. Lets say it's a three legged horse in a stakes race. It's still a horse, and it has more than two legs, but it is a failure.

Looking over it, I rate movies according to the waste or good use of resources. I don't think there were a lot of resources here. Certainly no reason for a big budget.

It really looks like footage was used and put on the production table, and the producers looked over the footage and added a story to what they had. Kind of like how some comic books were once done. An artist would draw the pictures, then a writer would make words for what the artists drew.

Indeed, that's what this looks like. If that's not what it was, then I can only say the writers were flat out pathetic. If it was a story made for the stock footage they had, well, then it's not as bad. But it's still silly.

Revelation
chughett5711 January 2015
I thought this movie was well done. I believe the idea behind viewing it through the camera eye was for reality, not as a movie one would go watch at a theater. Really wish there was more to it though. More in depth. Some scenes were too short, Making me want more, which is one of the reasons I watched it twice before showing it to others. Everyone I know who has watched it, really enjoyed it. My clients watched it through my Kindle. Being a hairstylist, I see at least four to six clients a day. At times it was a bit herky jerky, but still riveting for me. They want me to write ten lines to submit. Can't think of anything else to say. I would buy it.

Christian Propaganda in a Found Footage Shell
SubterraneanCinema28 March 2015
I am giving "Revelation: End of Days" an extra star ONLY because I am a big fan of the "found footage" (aka "faux documentary") genre. I loved "Blair Witch" and "Cloverfield", and I think that "September Tapes" is one of the most underrated films of the new millennium. The style of "Revelation" is similar to "ST", but this couldn't be more blatant fundamentalist Christian propaganda if it were being broadcast on CBN, starring Kirk Cameron, and with a special cameo by Pat Robertson. The fact that History Channel produced it is rather odd. I know that they have had several "documentaries" that were very theologically biased to please the devout, but this is beyond even those. It is like Ed Wood cross-dressing as Leni Riefenstahl in a conservative Sunday suit. If that mental image frightens you, then definitely avoid watching this at all costs. :)

Well Done
dec20195330 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The story is more than an inspired production based on the prophecies contained in the Book of Revelations, it describes events in sequential order as contained in the Bible. If you view it as a science fiction action thriller then you may be disappointed by some of the technical flaws and pitfalls described in other reviews. Watch it objectively and compare what you see with what is described in scripture. Surprisingly or not, the events described are actually based on widely accepted interpretations of symbolism contained in the final book of the Bible. The footage criticized by other reviewers is actually quite effective in conveying predicted chaos and widespread unrest that scripture says will affect the entire world. In the end, it's worth watching.

Loosely Based on the Bible!
aliciamnoda26 January 2015
I fast forwarded through this series because it was just plain awful. First of all, the 7 year tribulation period will begin when the Antichrist signs a peace treaty with Israel. When Jesus spoke of the destruction of the temple he was speaking of when the Romans destroy the temple in 70 AD. The 7 headed-beast represents the worldwide political system-the one world government. The seven seals (Revelation (6:1-17, 8:1-5), seven trumpets (Revelation 8:6-13; 11:15-19), and seven bowls/vials (Revelation 16:1-21) are three succeeding series of end-times judgments from God. And not just children will disappear but all true believers will be raptured, or caught up in the air, before the tribulation period.

Not the Biblical version
asmbeers23 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is a USA version with no angels, no demons, no two witnesses at Jerusalem, no biblical rapture and helicopters as demons. The writers didn't read the book. I would have excused it if it had tried to be semi accurate but after the Second Coming is a judgement of the Antichrist. That never happens. In this one life just goes on. You would think the History Channel could have done more. They did not. The acting is much better than the script the performers were handed. You have to wonder what they were thinking. New Babylon, according to the Bible is in the Middle East, not New Orleans. The false prophet is missing entirely and so is the image of the Beast.

unwatchable shakey cam! makes you ill watching it!
deconvertedman28 May 2023
Boring dull and ploting along as the "story" goes with footage stolen from real events spliced in to become the "story" - cherry picking quotes from the bible and toss in bad acting - that would be all execused if not for the SHAKING CAMERA ON EVERYTHING YOU SEE - it made me ill - I NEVER feel that watching things - but its THAT bad. Unwatchable. I was wanting something I could make fun of, but I can't even make fun of it because I cant watch it! Boo you guys suck!!

Leftbehind was rot but it was at least watchable rot! This isnt even to that level - and thats saying something eh? Secular and thiests alike will hate this slop. SKIP.

Run Craig!
SteverB3 June 2023
A lot of reviews I've read, for many different things, start off with, "I didn't expect to like this as much as I did," and for me, this is very true of this release. The shaky camera work only put me off in the first 10 minutes or so, as I realized what the mini-series was doing. This was not filmed in a way that called for tripods and good lighting. It was filmed to look like a chronicle of the end of days.

A lot of people have commented that the story didn't match the bible or that there were liberties taken with the Good Book. I didn't much care about that. I was looking to be entertained and for almost three hours, I was. The main characters in the form of a documentarian and front-of-the-camera talent, were both engaging and convinced me that in the world of this film, they believed in what they were experiencing. Some of the Canadian accents were noticeable, but not off-putting, just unusual to an American ear.

Shout out to the editors also. They seamlessly intercut their filmed footage with real news footage and although I didn't notice any missteps, others seem to have done so. That rarely bothers me as I don't sit down to watch something to analyze it for accuracy, or to enter a "Goof" here on IMDb. Even the ending was well-done. There was really no other way to do it and not look ridiculous, so bravo to that too. All in all, a good evening if you're in the mood for adventure, some biblical prophecy, and lots of things blowing up. Recommended.
