- Regina sets out on her plan to go undercover with the evil trio. She meets them at the diner after hours and says she's still one of them.
Back in Fairy Tale Land, we see Regina jealous as ever of Snow White and wanting Rumpelstiltskin to teach her the magic she needs to ruin her. She is also trying to learn from Maleficent's spell book. Rumpelstiltskin tells her it's going to take time and urges patience.
Emma learns about the plan of having Regina go undercover and is immediately skeptical. David and Mary Margaret admit that Regina was supposed to check in hour earlier, and they look nervous. Meanwhile, the evil trio is testing Regina's mettle. She apparently convinces them that she still has a dark side and says they should go find some real trouble.
Henry is examining a picture of a door that he is convinced can help him find the author.
Mary Margaret and David eventually track down Regina in the woods next to a burned out sheriff's car. She admits it was part of a wild night of "proving herself." Regina says she has earned Maleficent's trust.
Back in Fairy Tale Land we see Regina doing the same thing: trying to prove herself to Maleficent, who doesn't look so great and is hooked on some drug concoction of her own making. She's bummed out because her sleeping curse on "Briar Rose" didn't work.
The evil trio reports back to Mr. Gold about their meeting with Regina. He is intrigued by the possibility of Regina joining their side in "the war we are going to start." And he says they're going to start it that night.
Back in Fairy Tale Land, Regina learns that Briar Rose's daughter, Aurora, is getting married and she becomes furious. She can't handle the idea of another generation of other people getting their happy endings while she and Maleficent can't have theirs. She comes to Maleficent to encourage her to get her fire back.
In Storybrooke, just as she'd hoped, Regina's work has brought Maleficent to her. Maleficent tells Regina they, like her, are looking for the author. But first she has a job for Regina.
Regina meets with Mary Margaret, David, Emma and Killian and tells them about the evil trio's plan to find the author. Emma says she will be "with" Regina that night when she starts to put the plan into effect. She is supposed to help them steal something. That night we see Emma staking out the spot where Maleficent picks Regina up and she follows them.
Killian tracks down Belle, who is with Will at the diner. He and Will have a tense exchange (Killian doesn't seem to like Will much), but Killian is more focused on talking with Belle privately. Killian tells Belle about Regina's plot with the evil trio and they guess that the women are after the dagger. He says they should hide it somewhere that the women would not think to look, and says that if you want to bury a treasure where no one can find it it you should leave it to a pirate.
Maleficent leads in Regina to Marco the handyman's house and tells Regina to prove her evil ways by going in and taking Pinocchio.
Back in Fairy Tale Land Regina tries to convince Maleficent that the tree still burning in the forest from Maleficent's previous spell will help her get her spark back. That's where they go next and Maleficent breathes in all of the tree's fire. King Stefan comes by and commands his men to capture Maleficent. She tries some disappearing magic and it doesn't work. The men close in as Stefan tells her she's made a fool of herself again.
In Storybrooke, Regina goes into Marco's house and casts a spell on him and Pinocchio that knocks them both out. She looks like she feels kind of bad about it.
Emma sneaks into the house and tells Regina she does not feel good about the plan to take Pinocchio. She also feels like since the evil trio came to town her magic has gone haywire and that everyone in town is keeping something from her. Emma tells Regina she is going to keep track of where she is and if she sees anything she doesn't like she will get involved.
Captured by the king's men in Fairy Tale Land, Regina takes matters into her own hands and hurls a fireball at one of them. Maleficent is apparently impressed enough that she turns back into the fire-breathing dragon. Regina is pleased.
In Storybrooke, Emma discovers that Regina has tossed her cellphone and can no longer be tracked.
In Fairy Tale Land, Maleficent finds Aurora and casts a sleeping spell on her, thanking Regina for helping bring her fire back.
Belle and Killian are out hiding the dagger and Belle is overcome by the thought that Rumpelstiltskin might be back in town. She uses the dagger to call out to "The Dark One" and demands he show himself if he is in town. He doesn't seem to appear so Belle assumes she was wrong. After she leaves Killian looks down at the dagger, begins to smile and black smoke appears and reveals that "Killian" was actually Rumpelstiltskin.
"Killian" goes back to the pawn shop and takes a "pirate's oath" with Belle that they will never talk about what happened. "Killian," who is actually Rumpelstiltskin, asks Belle about her feelings for Will. She says they might be getting serious but she is not sure she will ever fully get over Rumpelstiltskin. She asks "Killian" what Will did to him. He stops and says that Will took something he cares about.
Back in Fairy Tale Land, Rumpelstiltskin checks in on Regina and she tells him about having helped Maleficent get her magic back. Rumpelstiltskin seems convinced that Regina is ready to learn, and Regina is excited about the possibilities of getting her revenge on Snow White.
Maleficent brings Regina to Mr. Gold's cabin and he shows himself and the dagger. He tells her he learned a lot about himself on his journey outside of Storybrooke and learned that sometimes you have to fall very far to finally see the light. An unconscious Pinocchio is brought in and laid in a chair. Rumpelstiltskin says they aren't going to torture Pinocchio because he can't remember anything, but the man he becomes can. Rumpelstiltskin waves the dagger to turn Pinocchio into August.
