Alpha: Golshifteh Farahani, Tahar Rahim to star in Raw, Titane director Julia Ducournau’s third film
Golshifteh Farahani of the Extraction films and Tahar Rahim of Madame Web have signed on to star in Alpha, the third film from Raw and Titane director Julia Ducournau, Variety reports. FilmNation and Charades will be presenting the project to potential buyers at the Cannes Film Festival – which is a good place for a Ducournau project to get rolling, since her film Titane won the Palme d’Or, the festival’s top award, a few years ago.
FilmNation Entertainment and Charades provided the following statement: “Alpha is Julia’s most personal, profound work yet, and we are looking forward to a global audience discovering the story with as much excitement as we did. We can’t wait to bring the film to market in Cannes and to launch sales together for the first time and collaborate in this way.“

French filmmaker Julia Ducournau has established herself as a true genre visionary with her first two movies, first the cannibal film Raw (2016) and then the wild Titane in 2021.
Up next from Ducournau is a mysterious movie titled Alpha, and though we don’t have any plot details at this time, we’re at least *hoping* it’s something of a genre picture.
“FilmNation and Charades are presenting the project in Cannes,” Variety reports.
Golshifteh Farahani (The Patience Stone) and Tahar Rahim (“The Serpent”) will star.

FilmNation and Charades are teaming up to present “Alpha,” the new film from Julia Ducournau, to buyers at Cannes.
It’s the same place where Ducournau caused a sensation with 2021’s “Titane,” her subversive and divisive body horror film, which won the Palme d’Or, the festival’s top award. Ducournau became the second female director to win the award, following Jane Campion (“The Piano”). “Anatomy of a Fall” director Justine Triet would become the third female winner in 2023. Ducournau’s other films include 2016’s “Raw,” a coming-of-age film about a young vegetarian who develops a taste for cannibalism.
“Alpha’s” cast includes Golshifteh Farahani, who appeared in “The Patience Stone” and “Paterson,” as well as César award-winning Tahar Rahim, best known for his work in “The Mauritanian,” “A Prophet” and “The Serpent.”

Dev Patel refused to let the slew of injuries he suffered while filming his elaborate fight scenes in “Monkey Man” get in the way of him completing the movie.
Patel not only directed and co-wrote the action movie, but he also stars as Kid, a young man who seeks to avenge his mother’s death at the hands of India’s corrupt law enforcement officials, political figures and spiritual leaders. As we’re now deep into the middle of the first quarter of the “cinema year” of 2024, here comes yet another horror thriller creeping into the multiplexes. And just what sets this one apart from the other “spook-taculars”? Well, it does concern a disparate group of chiller flick tropes all fighting for survival as their companions are picked off “one by one”. Not unique, but this one’s setting is very different. This story takes place on the desolate landscape of this planet over 45,000 years ago. And no, in case you’re wondering, CGI-created kajiu aren’t the culprits. But something strange and weird is roaming about, an entity or creature (perhaps plural) that’s stalking this group, then striking from Out Of Darkness.

IndieGala has been plugging away at their Survival Horror game Vorax for a while now. And with Steam Next Fest right around the corner, the team has dropped a preview highlighting the upcoming 0.7 Next Fest update for Vorax, which is heading towards an Early Access release later this year on Steam.
According to the team, the update revamps many of the locations in the game, with the focus being on the caves and the monsters residing inside. “Drenched” in mutagenic tissue, the caves function as nests and hatcheries for these creatures, which happen to be larger and stronger than the foes you’d normally encounter on the island.
The update will be included in a new demo for Steam Next Fest, along with the open Alpha for Vorax. The demo will be limited to one square kilometer, as opposed to the final game’s 10 square kilometres.

"In the jungle, she's a 'beta.' But out here, she's an 'alpha.'" Gravitas Ventures + Iconic Events have unveiled the first official trailer for Slotherhouse, the hilariously fun new slasher horror film featuring a killer sloth. Yes, seriously, it's real – and amazing. It's described as a "delightfully over-the-top and movie about a sloth that goes on a killing spree in a sorority..." In the spirit of M3GAN, Cocaine Bear, and the Chucky / Child's Play series, though I'd reckon it's more like Gremlins or Critters. Emily Young wants to be elected as her sorority's president. She adopts a cute sloth, thinking it can become the new mascot and help her win, until a string of fatalities implicate the sloth as the main suspect in the murders. It's time to meet Alpha the Killer Sloth. Starring Lisa Ambalavanar, Sydney Craven, Olivia Rouyre, Bianca Beckles-Rose, Andrew Horton, Sutter Nolan, and Grace Patterson.

The queen of BimboTok is back with a banger. On Friday, Chrissy Chlapecka released the colorful video for her song “Brat,” inspired by the iconic makeover scenes in the best Nineties movies, and featuring drag queens Sugar and Spice.
“It’s campy, it’s fun. It’s a Nineties makeover montage, which is the most iconic part of every Nineties or 2000s movie! Sugar and Spice basically Bratzify me,” Chalpecka tells Rolling Stone. “It’s about becoming a little bratty bitch and stepping into your anger and rightful emotions.”

“Odyssey” is a bubbly, über-electric track, where bass, synthesizers, and marimba combine for a vibrant summer theme song. Written and produced by Beck and Phoenix and mixed by Serban Ghenea, the track sees Beck and Thomas Mars trade verses before joining together for the chorus: “Somewhere/ We’ll fall into the ocean/ I’ll be there/ On an odyssey in the sun.”
The “Summer Odyssey Tour” begins August 1st and features support from Jenny Lewis, Sir Chloe, Japanese Breakfast, and Weyes Blood on select dates. Tickets are on sale here.
Phoenix’s last album was 2022’s Alpha Zulu, while earlier this year they shared a remix of the album cut “After Midnight” featuring Clairo. Back in February, Beck followed his 2019 album Hyperspace with the single “Thinking About You.

The made-for-tv movie was a programming staple for the broadcast networks in the 1970s and 1980s. While it fell out of favor in the 1990s and was even dropped as an Emmy Awards category for three years beginning in 2011, it has been on an upswing as of late. This year, a whopping 61 telefilms are in contention for the five nominations that will be revealed on July 12. Last year, there were only 48 options, compared to 41 in 2021 and 28 in 2020.
All 20,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 26 to cast their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for their favorite TV movies. A new rule change will require each voter to make no more than five selections in this category, whereas there was previously no limit. As opposed to the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.

Exclusive: While the title character ended John Wick: Chapter 4 under a headstone, the John Wick franchise is alive and kicking for Lionsgate. This week, Lionsgate brass got a first look at Ballerina, its Len Wiseman-helmed spinoff film that stars Ana de Armas and brings back Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, the late Lance Reddick and Anjelica Huston. The big question is, after the last film grossed over $400 million on a $90 million budget, what right minded studio would retire a franchise that just turned in its highest gross and best reviews?
Basil Iwanyk has produced the series since the beginning, and he told Deadline that a lot more will be known by September. That’s when director Chad Stahelski and star Keanu Reeves head to Japan where, Iwanyk said, they will split a couple bottles of whiskey. “Once they get through their hangovers, if Keanu and Chad have figured out something cool,...

Scott Z. Burns’ dystopian drama on Apple TV, “Extrapolations,” premiered the finale episode today, and we can say that it’s something to look forward to, at least in this world. It’s the year 2070, and Nick Bilton, the CEO of Alpha Industries, is the primary focus of the episode. We’d first seen him in the very first episode, a young man in his early 20s, full of vitality and an indomitable hunger to make billions. By Episode 8, Bilton is perpetually sweaty, his skin stretched eerily to keep it from sagging, his back hunched, and he’s having a hard time hiding his white hair. He’s old and weak, but his desire to kick the planet where he was born hasn’t abandoned him, and he still looks down on anyone who’s not him. The episode focuses on the case of ecocide—causing irreparable damage to the...

Scott Z. Burns’ drama about the dystopian future of our world, “Extrapolations,” dropped its penultimate episode on Apple+ today, and once again, it pointed us to a world we’re most definitely heading towards if carbon emissions aren’t curbed immediately. The last episode featured 2066, where one man named Ezra Haddad struggled to save the memories of his wife by uploading his failing memory into cloud storage but failed. Episode 7 begins on the last day of 2068, where the newest invention by Alpha, LifePause, has been launched and allows people to put a literal pause on their lives and keep their consciousness stored in a digital state until the earth is healthy enough to return. Against the backdrop of a severely polluted San Francisco and such scientific advancements, one New Year’s Eve party goes awry when the host makes an announcement. Here’s what happens in the seventh episode of “Extrapolations.

Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland in ‘The Night Agent’ Season 1 | Dan Power/Netflix Will there be another season of ‘The Night Agent’ on Netflix?
The Night Agent was originally pitched as a limited series with 10 episodes. However, season 1 became an immediate success, climbing to the top of Netflix’s Top 10 upon its release. According to Deadline, The Night Agent had a record-breaking opening weekend with 168.7 million hours viewed. It looked like life-long bonds were formed on Netflix’s Outlast. However, there was also trust that was broken. Jill Ashock revealed she doesn’t plan to speak to Justin Court again after working together.
[Spoiler alert: This article contains spoilers from Outlast Season 1 Episode 8.]
What happened between ‘Outlast’ contestants Jill Ashock and Justin Court?
The season started with the 16 contestants randomly picking their teams. Amber Asay, Lee Ettinger, Ashock, and Court made it into Camp Alpha on the reality TV show. But it was clear that Ashock wasn’t looking forward to working with other people, and neither was Court. The show, which has actor Jason Bateman as an executive producer, has one rule. They have to be in a team to win.
“Man-Down” showed Ashock and Asay hiking to the island while low-tied to find their crab traps. This was after Court failed to complete the raft after all the other camps. The women were...

This Star Trek: Picard article contains spoilers.
Star Trek: Picard is covering a lot of ground in its final season. Not only is the show a proper sendoff to The Next Generation crew but a continuation of conflicts from Deep Space Nine and even a postscript to the movie First Contact. There’s a lot going on in the Alpha Quadrant, and the latest episode of season 3, “No Win Scenario,” ups the ante even more by including a major reference to a classic Voyager villain.
In a flashback, we watch as retired Admiral Jean-Luc Picard has his meal interrupted by a group of excited Starfleet cadets who have tons of questions about his past adventures. Picard recounts a few for them, including his encounter with the Tamarians in the classic Next Generation episode “Darmok.” But then he references an adventure we’ve never seen before: a conflict involving the Hirogen,...

In the final showdown in A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, Jobu Tupaki’s (Stephanie Hsu) chaotic ensemble — like the omnipotent and omniscient antagonist herself — contains multitudes, starting with her alter-ego Joy’s overwhelming emotions. Costume designer and stylist Shirley Kurata assembled remnants of Jobu’s outrageous multiverse-jumping personas, each of which terrorizes her distracted mother, laundromat owner Evelyn (Michelle Yeoh). The first-time Oscar nominee also says she “draped and pieced together” an infusion of sartorial influences, pulled from her encyclopedic fashion knowledge. As Jobu violently resists Evelyn’s outreach, Comme des Garçons-inspired volume and billowing swatches of Vivienne Westwood-referential tartans come alive.
“[Fashion is] just ingrained in me. It’s part of my DNA,” says Kurata. She began her career styling shoots for fashion photographer Autumn de Wilde, who later directed 2020’s Emma. An alum of the avant-garde Studio Berçot in Paris, Kurata has been concocting storytelling runways and...

Plot: Criminals from South Korea take control of the cargo ship that’s taking them back home from the Philippines… and then the genetic experiment that’s also on board gets loose. A bloodbath ensues.
Review: Writer/director Kim Hong-seon’s movie Project Wolf Hunting doesn’t have a great title – and the filmmakers were clearly aware of that, because when a character in the movie sees a folder with “Project Wolf Hunting” on it, their response is, “How tacky.” Apparently the literal translation of the South Korean production’s title in its home country would be Project Wolf Hunt or simply Wolf Hunt, both of which at least sound better than the English title the movie was given. That “ing” at the end does make a difference. But as cheesy as Project Wolf Hunting sounds, it’s a title we’re probably going to hear referenced quite often going forward,...

Comics are an intimidating medium, which is ironic considering how many of us had formative reading experiences with comic books. But there’s a perception (that isn’t always unfounded) that if you aren’t constantly keeping up with comics, especially superhero comics, you’ll fall too far behind, get lost, and never get caught up. Or that you’ll be roped into buying a bunch of books that you’re not into just to “understand” the ones you’re following. Or that it’s all superheroes all the time.
Well, we say…to hell with that noise! Comics are no different than TV or movies in that there’s an infinite array of genres and tones to indulge yourself in, and even well-established long-running characters routinely set easy jumping on points for newer readers. It’s a new year, and there’s no better time to get into (or back into) reading comics.

This piece contains spoilers for Glass Onion.
From the opening montage of Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, we learn that tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) is a genius disruptor because of how many different people tell us so. One of the loudest voices of support is Lionel Toussant (Leslie Odom Jr.), head scientist at Miles’ tech company Alpha and unofficial translator of Miles’ eccentric faxes scrawled with such head-scratching brainstorms as “A.I. and Dogs = Discourse.”
Sure, Lionel tells the other Alpha powers that be, most of them are half-baked ideas… “but the crypto kids paid for this building.” It’s a throwaway line that work as a fascinating bit of narrative time travel, as the film is set during the Covid-19 lockdown of May 2020, yet it’s being released in late 2022, right in the middle of former cryptocurrency billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried’s Ftx solvency crisis.

Phoenix continued to preview their upcoming new album Alpha Zulu Thursday with the video for the LP’s icy latest single, “Winter Solstice.”
Unlike every other track on the French band’s first album since 2017’s Te Amo, “Winter Solstice” is the only song on Alpha Zulu that wasn’t composed by Phoenix together in the studio.
Recorded over separate continents, Phoenix’s Lauren Brancowitz, Christian Mazzalai, and Deck D’Arcy built the loop for the track, which they sent over to singer Thomas Mars to build out. “Winter Solstice” marks...

Kim Kardashian doesn’t just tease. She also aims to please.
Earlier this week, the 41-year-old reality TV star offered an “appetizer” before the big Dolce & Gabbana show featuring her “Ciao Kim” collection. On Saturday, she delivered the main course, which culminated with her taking a bow at Dolce & Gabbana’s show at Milan Fashion Week. She looked absolutely stunning in a sparkling black gown while donning a large diamond encrusted cross necklace and cross earrings. The blonde bombshell pinned her hair up to complete the look.
Kardashian didn’t walk the main show, but that didn’t matter to the frenzied audience that had anticipated her appearance on the runway. Kim’s mother, Kris Jenner, took to social media and posted a short video showing the moment her daughter took the stage. Set to the techno tune of Jorge Cary’s “Alpha,” the curtains slowly opened to reveal...
