It almost seems a little backwards to review a film you participated in, but I have to tell you what a wonderful experience it was to be a part of this wonderful rom-com. This was definitely a labor of love. I started out as a simple photo on the shelf, as the grandmother that asked for "the promise" to be made, and ended up a real part of this story. (thank you, Candy) What a joy to be able to play the flashback scenes with Bruce & Katie, two very talented actors for whom I have a great deal of respect. Katie is simply amazing as adult Mackenzie. I could go on about her forever. And Bruce is the consummate troublesome grandfather. Anything you asked of him, he would do. This is yet another wonderful script by the stellar Candy Beard. And Daniel Beard's innovative camera techniques make this a wonderful work of art. You will enjoy this fun-loving film with your whole family.

Well, done. Funny, and heart warmimg
lionpapa30 December 2017
The Promise. Is a very well thought out, well written, and wonderful feel good walk down the road of Mackenzie and George Miller's life in a season of time which has one Miller haunted by memories of the past and being afraid to move forward with his future, whule the other Miller just wants a chance to balance the life she has with the life she dreams of. While Mackenzie and her Grandpa George are all each other have after the passing of her parents and her grand mother, she longs for a "normal" life like every other woman dreams of from the time they are little girls: to find her Mr. Right and live happily ever after. But its a bit more complicated than that since Mackenzie made a promise to her grandmother before she passed away to always tske care of and watch over her grandfather. Makimg it worse yet is the fact that Grandpa George would do anything to keep Mackenzie to himself. Together they live, love, laugh, cry and try to find the common ground necessary to survive between the Promise and happily ever after.

BEAUTIFUL FILM WITH MUCH HEART
advlandvideo14 December 2017
A very promising film that should appeal to any teenager/young adult child, parent or grandparent. All will find a character that they can relate. Humor, heart break, embarrassment, fear, love and forgiveness abound. In addition to a great escape, I think every film is a silent teacher. Here, there is a clear message that a promise is both a sacred social contract and a self-imposed prison. Second, is a solid reminder that while love is great it requires some work. I want to say in closing that it has been an honor to watch the caliber of this company's productions improve.

From the beginning to end the film is amazing. There is no other way to put it. You get a feel right away how much heart and soul was poured into making this nearly a decade old project come to life! The leads were drenched with professionalism! Full of friendly and very funny laughable moments! Highly recommend anyone and everyone to watch this film! I can assure you will not be disappointed!

Heartfelt comedy film
tracysnellenberger17 May 2024
I loved this movie! I loved the storyline and the actors did a great job! This family friendly film is very funny and very heartwarming. This film teaches you about the relationship between a grandpa and granddaughter. How much love a grandpa has for his granddaughter and has her best interest at heart even if he is a little mischievous , lol.

This comedy film is very funny and relatable to what actually happens in real life. The writer did a fantastic job telling this story. The producers and cinematographer did a wonderful job putting this together. I know it takes a lot of work and this film was done very well.

Another deserving award winner.
ginadixon14 May 2024
This film is a very clean rom-com that will keep you laughing through the whole thing. It is so fresh and funny but, it also touches on real life situations that can happen. It also teaches respect and the importance of making and keeping promises.

Mybmom and I had the honor of being extras on thos film. During a restaurant scene we were the extras in the booth behind the 2 main leads and it was so hard to keep a straight face and not laugh while we were in action. The main characters meshed so well together and kept everyone smiling and laughing. Watching the completed film was the best. If you haven't seen this film yet, you are missing out. Candy J. Beard and her son Daniel Beard make an amazing team and their films just get better and better. That shows in the many awards they have won for this and other films.

We also wete honored to meet the amazing Ken kirchival (known for the Dallas series) who is originally from Clinton, Indiana. He was so down to earth.

The love just shines through
atimeforchange17 May 2024
I was able to screen The Promise at my film festival this past April and it is a wonderful film. The love shared by the two main characters were evident from the beginning. Having been very close to my own grandparents, I loved to see their heartfelt interactions. And laugh a bit in the process.

The writing was superb and very natural.

I would not hesitate to tell anyone to take a chance and travel down the road with Mackenzie and George Miller; See Mackenzie explore the dating scene, while George continually lays speed bumps out for her. Witness their growth during the whole process. Love!!

Romantic comedy
zeke19477 May 2024
If you like to have your emotions tested, this award winning, independent, Christian film will have you laughing one minute and crying the next! Grandpa Miller is one crusty character you will just love to hate. His granddaughter just wants to live a normal life but grandpa is making that very difficult. The writing, the directing, the chemistry between the actors, the original music are all top notch! And, if you like happy endings, this is the film for you. Take some time to take a journey through the life of two people trying to, one, keep things the same, the other trying to move on. Well worth the journey.

Movie like the family needs
bootsielilbit11 May 2024
I have watched this movie over and over. The acting by the characters is very good and the writing team did a great job. Just like all of the other movies, this one does not disappoint. I love the characters of grandpa and granddaughter especially. I wish everyone could get along and at least try to coexist with each other, especially families. Very relaxing and entertaining movie for the whole family. Even the little ones could learn a lesson or two from this one. Try to see which character you are and see what you could change in your life to make any of your relationships better. I try to be the best person I can be but realized I have a few things to work on. Kind of makes you appreciate people more while they're here. The movie was a joy to watch.

Wonderful movie

Warning: Spoilers
This story line has a plot! It funny, lots of good clean fun! Very enjoyable through out the movie! The young lady who lost her parents at a young age sure was luck to have those wonderful grandparents to raise her up right! She made a promise to her grandma that she would tend to grandpa, even when he would embarrass the heck out of her! Those were the funny times! The young men that came a courting her was also very interesting! The ending will keep you happy but also better keep your Kleenex close for there are a sad side that goes along with this outstanding show!

It would be a great "First Date" movie to see.
jesuslovinmommy16 May 2024
This is another great film from the mother and son filmmaking team in the Wabash Valley. They premiered this rom-com at a local church and it was open to the public so I attended with some close friends. We all loved it. We literally laughed out loud, but there were times in which we cried too (which makes the best kind of movie!) Bonus: They got an acting icon to make an appearance in the film. He also spent hours on the red carpet, meeting and greeting with guests, signing autographs and posing for photos with everyone before the premiere. Even he (Ken Kercheval) loved the movie. I heard him say so with my own ears after the lights came back on and before an award ceremony was held.

Being from the town in which this film was made, it was a real treat to see film locations that we recognized. The lead actors had so much chemistry which made the film very fun to watch. I tried to put myself in "Mackenzie's" place and tried to imagine what it would be like if my grandfather had pulled the shenanigans that Grandpa Miller pulled on his granddaughter.

The comedy in this film was hilarious but clean, which I appreciated. I can watch this film with a group of family members and never feel ashamed or uncomfortable.

Bruce Royer was adorable as the mischievous Grandpa Miller and he is worthy of a best acting award, or at the very least, a nomination, in my opinion. Beautiful scores, realistic writing, funny actors and great cinematography make this independent film (which BTW doesn't look or feel independent at all) make this a MUST SEE movie. It would make a great "first date" movie to see!

Grandpa meets Dennis the Menace, I PROMISE this will be a hoot!
michellerenaebruton18 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The Promise is a true to life film that shows two people from the same family in different seasons of their lives. While one navigates heartbreak and the fractures that come with it, the other's romantic life is blossoming.

Watch this quirky family of the "grumpy ol' grandpa" and "peppy young granddaughter" as they maneuver living together, dating and forging relationships.

Whether you are looking for humor, romance or heartbreak... this film has something for everyone.

One life lesson is when you lose something close to you in life, sometimes you also gain in the process. It's hard to count your blessings when you're in the midst of trials, but even in the darkest times there are always blessings if you look hard enough.

Much like real life, our loss is Heaven's gain.

This quick witted grandpa learns that it's okay to let the birds fly from the nest, because the nest will always be there when they fly home.

A FANTASTIC ROM-COM
moviebuff-8336314 May 2024
I had the privilege of seeing The Promise at the world premiere they had on November 4, 2017 at the Bridge Church. It is a laugh out loud comedy that will have you saying "What will Grandpa do or say next?" And "Will Mackenzie find her Mr. Right?"

I will say it was a treat that they managed to get Ken Kercheval (DALLAS) in their movie since he was from the Wabash Valley. He did a meet & greet on the red carpet with each and every person in attendance which was super cool.

The writing and cinematography were outstanding.

Katie Peterson and Bruce Royer had excellent chemistry as Granddaughter and Grandfather and if I didn't know any better, I would think that they were really related. Chemistry between actors is vital for the success of a film.

If you get a chance to see this movie you will not be disappointed as it's a great movie and I highly recommend this film. Fun fact this movie is also a multi award winner. Watch it and you'll discover why.

The Promise
I loved this movie the storyline and the relationship between the grandfather and his granddaughter was excellent. He just wanted the very best for her. Sometimes when you want the best it's hard to let things happen. DCTF is extremely excellent at the way he they write these films and all the hard work that goes in to making them. This film had to be done twice but thank GOD for giving them the opportunity to get their film done.

Family friendly, comedy it should be in theaters for everyone to see. There is not enough family friendly movies to go see at the theaters.

DCTF are simply the best.
