Contains entirely too few screens full of Matrix gibberish

This is a six and a half minute featurette on the Region 2 DVD of Man of Steel, concerning, yeah, you know what. More specifically, the design of the FX. As I watched this from a copy from my library, I can't say for sure if there's supposed to be another disc to it with more, well, any other, extras, but it didn't come with here. And the cover text doesn't suggest such exist. So, real cheapo, this one. Well, there is one on shooting in NZ for, get this, The Hobbit The Battle of Five Armies. No, you read that right. I've reviewed it, it goes by the name of New Zealand Home of Middle-Earth. And a nifty 2 minute 75th anniversary animated short). This is why special feature hunters should always look carefully what it says about such.

Anyway, it goes into the opening on the beyond doomed planet of Avatar's Pandora, I mean, Krypton, the ancient scout ship inexplicably holding Superman's suit, the display tech which lets us know the fetus is present but clearly not ready to be born(they must've figured ultrasound is the best way to show it), the silly-looking armor, the Liefeldian guns, and the immensely poorly conceived Phantom Zone. We are only in the company of two people John 'D.J.' Des Jardin, who was responsible for the catering. Kidding. The other is the extremely punchable face of the 13-year-old Clark Kent actor, who allows it to have an incredibly lame ending: go wonder if you should let a busload of school-children die, kid. It consists of an interview, clips of the film, illustrations(early ones in particular), pre-visualizations, green screen footage, and the effects are further gone through as we see partially complete ones.

There is a little mild violence and disturbing content in this, pushing that precious cash cow the PG-13 rating. I recommend this to anyone interested in the subject, as it's quite concise and detailed on it. 7/10
