Astronauts Wanted, a production company aimed at young, digital-native consumers, is planning a busy slate of original content. At its first-ever presentation during the NewFronts, the studio announced multiple new and returning series, including a third season of Grace Helbig and Mamrie Hart’s HeyUSA and a food show hosted by TimothyDeLaGhetto.
The new HeyUSA episodes will once again send Helbig and Hart on the road, where they will take on the suggestions sent in by their fans. The stops on this season’s tour will include a road-kill event and an underwater music festival, according to a press release.

On November 12, social media-savvy production company Astronauts Wanted announced a new season of the travel show HeyUSA. This time around, a few things about the show are set to change: Thanks to a distribution deal, the new episodes will arrive on Verizon’s mobile-friendly Go90 platform before they head anywhere else. In addition, the new season is actually a spinoff series called HeyUSA_X, and it will focus on extreme sports challenges.
The final change concerns the show’s hosts. Grace Helbig and Mamrie Hart, who served as HeyUSA’s resident travelers over the show’s first two seasons, will embark on the upcoming adventure. Instead, Vine stars Marcus and Cody Johns will dive into a series of challenges within an itinerary chosen by fans.

Given the popularity of its stars, #HeyUSA season two was also going to be a hit. Mamrie Hart, the star of Astronauts Wanted’s travel web series, has a devoted following on her You Deserve A Drink YouTube channel, and the five guests who joined her on the road--Kinglsey, Tyler Oakley, Flula Borg, Colleen Ballinger, and Jenna Marbles--are all online video stars as well.
When Astronauts Wanted produces a series, though, it is interested in much more than video views. With programs like #HeyUSA and @SummerBreak, it creates a vast network of social media content that continues to engage viewers after they’re done watching. In #HeyUSA’s case, these social media integrations were particularly vital, as they directed fans to the show’s primary home on The Scene. “Our goal was to increase the social cloud and decrease the YouTube piece of it,” said Nick Shore, a producer at Astronauts Wanted,...

Helbig, who cannot travel due to scheduling conflicts with her new TV show, instead chose all the locations where Hart and her guests will go, and to kick things off, she sent Hart and Kingsley to Hawaii. The 12-and-a-half minute video follows the duo on their island adventure, as they explore caves, swim with dolphins, and wear a lot of colorful shirts

Comedy Central has released the first episode of a short-form web series, and its subsequent storyline will be guided entirely by the audience of @midnight. The Chris Hardwick-hosted game show produced by Funny or Die debuted the interactive Instagram web series called Plot Twistagram on March 9, 2015. Plot Twistagram takes the form of a choose-your-own-adventure story. Each week, producers of @midnight will ask fans to submit their ideas for the next episode’s plot in the comments section of the current clip. The show runners will pick their favorite idea to produce. To start things off, the first 15-second Plot Twistagram episode briefly reveals the main character dealing with depressing life situations like being dumped by his girlfriend. He then picks up a box of cereal and screams because the inside is glowing ominously. The Instagram-based series pairs well with @midnight’s penchant for all things digital and social media.

Astronauts Wanted believes it can help you get past your fears in its newest show. The studio known for producing Grace Helbig and Mamrie Hart’s #HeyUSA travel series will debut Anxt on January 20, 2015.
Anxt is hosted by YouTuber Mikey Bolts (who boasts over 1.7 million subscribers across two channels) and Viner Gabbie Hanna (who has 1.6 million followers on that platform). The two invited their fans back in December 2014 to submit their greatest fears for consideration, such as spiders, heights, or germs. Then, Bolts and Hanna selected some of the best, most disconcerting issues and started filming. Astronauts Wanted even brought some of the duo’s fans directly to Los Angeles to help them get over their fears in person.
Bolts and Hanna kept most of the show’s filming and updates under wraps. Bolts even tweeted he wasn’t allowed to reveal anything during the show’s production until the episodes were released.
