Got Sillier and Sillier
Mehki_Girl29 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Maybe the book was thrilling. The actor playing Simon was decent. The rest of the acting was subpar.

The killer, though, whoo boy! He was awful and silly in that ridiculous outfit and his over the top "acting". Only thing missing was a mustache to twirl.

If he wanted revenge on pop and his kind, why pick psychics? Because he thinks they talk to angels or demons? Who knows? Who cares? Liked the accents, but then, again, they're not accents in Scotland are they?

Sorry but this was awful.

Stars for the decent beginning. No stars for the silly ending and silly villian.

Amateur Hour - Pure dead awful so it is!
omendata29 August 2019
As a Scot myself I was cringing at the puerile acting from some of the cast in this and the long drawn out story which should have been done in a short as this was just too long for its own good!

I see they dug out all the old Take The High Road actors from yesteryear and what was Gordon Kennedy the comedian doing in this , Siobhan Redmond and the actor who played the serial killer was seriously awful - where did they dig this bunch out - the bargain acting basement bin it seems.

Rab C. Nesbitt Scottish vernacular sums it up - Pure dead awful so it is!

unclear scifi with no purpose, with few positive and bad things
NijazBaBs23 May 2019
The only positive thing about this movie is positive end and few good behaviors like supporting a friend and asking for forgiveness and realization of strength. There is a feeling of inspiration at the end. But beyond that, there is really nothing worth watching this movie. Usual things, love, death, crime, psycho, government. Worst of all there is no completed story, explanation, meaning, purpose. It just shows us bunch of random things, good and bad. The scifi part is so unexplained, unclear, and unreal, that I don't see what is purpose of this movie. Neither proof, nor explanation, nor motivation. Such movie is empty and is not worth watching at all. End is so quick and in fact unfinished or finished but not in front of our eyes. Whole story looks unreal and without purpose. I regret watching it.

Indie film in need of a good editor!
Craigix25 May 2019
This film has a good premise but it's so incredibly slow it's almost unwatchable.

There is a good film in here somewhere but it needs some serious editing down to actually be entertaining. Films don't HAVE to be at least 90mins long. It just feels like in order to reach 90mins they stretched out every shot they had, stuck in extra material and just used filler to make it longer. Shame.

For an indie film the lighting and filming is good, some of the acting a bit dodgy, but overall the crew seem to have known what they were doing. It's just a shame about the story itself. 3/10.

Use the Force Luke!
robert_oneill20027 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Any story that takes a protagonist from boyhood to godhood in an hour and a half is hamstrung by its arc. It took Luke Skywalker three movies, plus the awful Last Jedi and even he didn't really get there.

The idea is basically very good. Could be argued it tapped into the ancient Scottish, or at least Highlander idea of Second Sight. It's an interesting enough study. The author should have kept it at that level. So many shows that explore superpowers end up with the characters virtually omnipotent--then there is nowhere to go. Keeping it at a level of clairvoyance allows scope for unforced danger. Tension could have been created by virtue of the claim that Second Sight was actively induced as well as passively received. The protagonist actively developing his second sight could have provided a driver for the story. Then the story would mimic like--we get good at what we do, learning a skill, training for a marathon, learning to draw etc., instead of the 'gifted' from birth approach--like Rey in Star Wars--and, of course, only our protagonist can be gifted in this way.

In the story, the 'danger' is created through a 'time loop'. The protagonist sees a vague glimpse of his future and in trying to avert it, he brings it on. It's a fairly tired motif. This Terminator time twist is mixed with the element of the 'hunt' as he stalks the wolf (Peter and the Wolf forms a large part of the story).

While Simon, then, has almost omniscience, he can't see the wolf clearly--cause he's scared. There has to be limitations to omniscience but it's built in a false way. In this case, the powers come from connection and are limited by fear. He is connected to his minder and M15 agent but scared of the wolf/villain/psychopath--so he can't 'see' him. Keeping the powers limited in and of themselves would have solved the problem. (Of course, it could be argued this could have made it too much like the Eyes of Laura Mars.)

The villain's motives seem unclear. His dad is a priest who disowns him--fair enough--but why does he target psychics? Surely, targeting religious figures would have made more sense? Perhaps I need to read the book.

The film itself is well shot and the acting seems fine, although the villain is too campy.

It sucks! Won't keep you engaged...
jakebrann28 July 2020
40 minutes into this movie and it seems like still nothing has happened. It's too slow and the music will put you right to sleep! I have no idea what this movie is about and don't care to watch any more of it...

supernatural
ops-5253522 May 2019
Dark sense is a british production, about a boy with supernatural abilities, and his best sense is to foresee the deaths of people, in this instance the deeds of death by a serial killer.if youre epileptic, or an ''on-off''rigid parkinson patient , you will reckon a lot of things.

the acting are quite entertaining, and gives you a good thrill allover. the tempo and comotion of the action are fun and satisfiey well. the score are well emboidered into the thrill and makes you hang on even more

the technical product are also good, with the exception of some of the visual effect that are at star wars 1 1970's level. its also a drawback at the end of the film, a chaotic battle between heaven and hell,, or good and evil, and i was surprised at how it ended indeed.

the grumpy old man recommends a view, this is more like it, when i say that british filmaking can be good....

About a young boy with a psychic sense who even when he's older feels a connection with a serial killer. Well acted and tense in places. Satisfying ending.

Another excellent Scottish film...
contactmaz24 May 2019
I watched the film not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. The acting was very good, the script was very good, accents were superb, and the filming locations were great, in fact, everything about the film was pretty satisfying. Thankfully, there was no crappy over-the-top Hollywood-type CGIs as well. I really can't fault it. Very interesting ending as well. Nice one Scotland!

Simon!!!!!
wandernn1-81-68327415 May 2020
+1 Star for inserting one of my favorite piano Pieces!!!!! :)

+1 Star for the first half of the movie. The first half build was pretty good. I was into the story and didn't fall to reading the ingredients on my bag of potato chips.

Okay I thought the ending wasn't bad. But it wasn't great. Definitely not good enough to pus the score up any higher. It fact I lean more towards docking the score for the ending but, it really didn't annoy me or impress me so the score stands as is.

Oh and really the moral of this story is to stand up and confront your demons. Don't let your demons control you or your whole life. Have some cahones!!!! :)

Tense thriller with unexpected turns
chris-634-95517015 November 2019
Whilst it's clear this was a low budget movie, the filming around Edinburgh is beautifully done and the storyline keeps you on your toes. Really hope this is a first of many from Magnus Wake and his team.

Great Scottish Movie
dagallop23 May 2019
Well done Scotland! They found a lot of Scottish actors/actresses that don't have Glaswegian accents to such a degree 90% of the English speaking world wouldn't have a clue what they were saying!

The story is well constructed and a reasonable representation of the First And Only original story by Peter A. Flannery. Aside from the forced 'deviations' that every film version is forced to take to condense a weeks reading into a one or two hour slot it does well to get the critical and key moments covered.

You can see pretty early on that this wasn't a high budget movie production but it really didn't need it, it works as is! The scenes are plausible and the settings well selected. The darker scenes, although necessitated by the storyline, could have been slightly better lighted or atmospherics would have improved them but as these are few it doesn't detract from great acting and the essence of the story.

The acting is actually exceptionally good and everyone gets the requisites that the acting is providing. The scene where they cut back to the control room group. mouths agape and dumbstruck, is priceless!

Synopsis: great movie if you like crime drama with a little extra thrown in, not recommended for the faint hearted some of the 'nasties' are pretty convincing and may make you squirm! (isn't that what they are supposed to do?). I recommend this as a 'casual view' crime drama that will leave you feeling like you just watched a movie with a conclusion as opposed to the all too frequent 'hollow feeling' and lacking of an end!.

This is a great thriller and wonderfully shot around the centre of Edinburgh. It is consistently dramatic and visually rich, with several interesting characters. Well worth watching
