Mr killer plz make the kids shut up
demetrius1122 October 2018
This movie is actually a love story gone wrong. A masked guy with talents in pastry and painting after living for a long time alone in a forest, falls in love with Yvonne Strahovski (can you blame him?). However, is she already has two very loud hyperactive kids that ruin the movie for everyone. In a futile attempt to fix the move and give himself a very happy ending he tries to bribe the kids with cupcakes and drawings. Kids get even louder, and the audience starts rooting for the masked avenger while checking out info on contraception at their mobiles. In the end our guy just gives up and will probably try to get it right in the next movie.

The Most Annoying Kids In A Horror Film Award Goes To.....
Foutainoflife6 January 2019
Wow. So, mom and girls arrive at their isolated, lakeside vacation cabin with the promise of dad showing up late the same night. However, there is a lunatic lurking in the woods and he has some plans for the family. Will anyone survive? This is your plot.

The thing that will irritate you most about this film is not the search for reasons why this lunatic is doing all this or the fact that children go into the woods and find a creepy "tea party" setup and think they should eat the food that has been laid out for who knows how long. The number one thing that will irritate you will be how the children are behaving. I have never seen a film that has kids that are so downright annoying. Mom can't even begin to figure out what to do because the girls are so distracting. "Mommy!' "Mommy, No!" "Don't leave us alone!" "I'm scared!" "Mommy, you're scaring me!" It just went on and on. I was ready for this guy to take the kids OUT.

Aside from the kids, this isn't too bad. Location is right, timing is right and there were a couple of nice problematic scenarios setup. There isn't much of a story for the killer, simply meaning you won't find any explanations as to why things are happening. So, if you are looking for it to all come together in the end, you'll be disappointed. This would've been a much better film had there been more attention to how the kids were reacting and making sure that the story made a bit more sense.

It's not just downright awful but it leaves something to be desired.

Yvonne is the best part
natorice18 January 2019
Yvonne is the only real redeeming quality of the movie. The kids whine ALOT, and it almost ruins the film. Yvonne, however, is the saving grace. There are some significant gaps in the plot, and it does make the film less enjoyable than it could be. It almost felt like a watered down version of The Strangers.

THE KIDS RUIN THE MOVIE!! Absolutely terrible, makes you not want children.
brenthanson20 September 2018
In all honesty, if the kids weren't in this movie it wouldn't be that bad. The kids are annoying, whiny, and just terrible. We were rooting for them to go just so the movie wouldn't be a complete flop. Don't waste your time and money. Absolutely aweful and the grey scale on the film was as if a colorblind child did the editing.

The sequel will be "He's Still Out There"
theboobean16 March 2019
I love horror and will give most gore a chance. I love blondie from The Handmaid's Tale so I was eager to see what she could do here. She's definitely good at being dramatic and I felt like she really was in danger for a second. The script was so lackluster and literally went nowhere. I started noticing inconsistencies immediately and they continued throughout. I'm not sure what I just watched, but the very ending was redundant and stupid.

Entertaining but unoriginal
stitch_groover22 March 2019
If you like your suspense/horror/cabin in the woods films without having to think too hard about what's going on, do yourself a favour and check this out. Laura and her daughters Kayla and Maddie arrive at their holiday home, and Dad is due to turn up later than night for reasons. Throw in a possibly creepy stranger, a story of a missing boy and a mysterious tea party deep in the woods, and you have the setting for this tale of one woman fighting for her life and those of her daughters. The film is entertaining, but if you prefer your thrillers with a plot twist or two, this might not be for you. Keeping some mystery around your bad guy is usually a good idea, but if you're looking for at least some semblance of a motive, you're out of luck. One positive however is that Laura, the heroine of the piece, is not a typical dumb victim. She doesn't really do anything stupid to put herself in extra peril. She basically does everything right, but the killer is always just a step ahead of her. My biggest complaint about the film is about the elder daughter, who I'd guess is aged around 10 (I'm not good with guessing kid's ages). Both kids act quite well, and I'm sure they were directed to perform in the way they do in the film... but I was honestly hoping the killer would just take her and shut her up! Yes, she was scared and panicked, but please - be quiet, let your mother think and don't make me shout at my TV!

I Liked It, But...
writer1433 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I like cheesy, predictable horror movies and this one fit right in. You have the female in distress with the added burden of taking care of her two kids during this nightmare. The kids, by the way, and extremely annoying with whining and crying. The predictable things happen but what we are left with is why. Why the yarn, why the wooden replicas of family, why the mask...and why after watching this family summer in this spooky old house for years does he decide now to terrorize them?? I don't like too much exposition in film but come on--a little can add to the story. We get none of that. Overall, it was an ok movie to pass and Sat. afternoon eating popcorn and Whoppers. But...certainly not great and nothing new here.

Decent Thriller/Horror
MovieQween-3362218 January 2019
This movie reminded me a bit of the movie The Strangers in a good way. While we didn't get a ton of backstory on the family, the Mom's character was very likable. Her acting was quite good which makes sense as she is Emmy nominated actress. The story was fairly straightforward and had some scary moments with good tension and scares. My only gripe was the Dad character who seemed unbelievably gullible to the point where it didn't even seem realistic. A few small plot holes but overall a decent thriller movie!! Worth a watch

Storyline with Nothing New but Two Annoying Girls
claudio_carvalho16 November 2018
Laura (Yvonne Strahovski) drives her car with her two young daughters Kayla (Anna Pniowsky) and Maddie (Abigail Pniowsky) to the remote lake house that belongs to her family. Her husband has an important meeting and will head later. Soon they are threatened by a psychopath and have to fight to survive. Will they succeed?

"He's Out There" is a full of clichés horror film with a storyline with nothing new: a family trapped in danger in a remote area threatened by a masked psychopath. The performance of Yvonne Strahovski and the atmosphere are the best offered to the viewers. But on the other hand, there are two annoying girls that irritate any viewer with their attitudes, whining and screams. My vote is four.

Decent Horror Film
hailstar816 April 2019
Well contrary to the negative reviews I thought this film was actually pretty good. Im an old hat at horror from zombies to Siberian Film, I've delved into most genres. Nothing scares me or is a new concept anymore but this was a good tense 1 1/2 hours. Some jumpy bits and some gore all the great ingredients needed in a horror pie. Yes the kids screams where shrill, but they are kids and were scared after all!! There were also some anomalies where you think, nah that person should be dead, but hey arent a lot of films like that?! Decent film and good to see a strong female lead!

Can someone explain to me why the masked man did it?
peterp-450-2987163 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Daddy can see us...when he gets here. But he's already here.

Do you fancy a movie along the lines of "Hush" but with people who aren't mute? In short, a film in which there's a lot of screaming. And should there be co-stars who are simply mown down with a wicked-looking ax as in every "Friday the 13th" episode? Then "He's out there" might be something for you. However, if you are someone who expects a little explanation about why someone is terrorizing a family, then I'll have to disappoint you. Why Laura (Yvonne Strahovski) and her two daughters Kayla (Anna Pniowsky) and Maddie (Abigail Pniowsky) were suddenly attacked by an unknown, still remained a question mark in the end.

"He's out there" certainly isn't a bad movie. The increasing tension ensures that you'll be sitting on the edge of your chair. It's a bit like "The wolf and the seven young goats", only the wolf is a lurid disguised person and the 7 goats are played by two irritating screaming girls. Now such a disguise as the maniac uses is nothing new in the slasher genre. Jason Voorhees had a hockey mask. Michael Myers a scary rubber mask. Leatherface wore a mask made with the flesh of his victims. The perpetrator in "He's out there" seems to be a cousin of "The Collector" in "The collection". Almost an identical disguise and the same used clothes.

I like to watch such a typical slasher full of screaming victims. The least I expect though is a surprising denouement or a unique thought up slaughter as in "You're next". But in this film, the standard list for slasher movies is neatly checked off and there's no deviation from the standard formula. And then there's also the fact that there are just a few victims and nothing (but absolutely nothing) of background information is shared. That makes "He's out there" just a disappointing, simple, third-rate film. Even the end was so predictable that I had to sigh deeply. And to be honest, I also thought the denouement was a bit exaggerated.

Is there something positive to report? Yes, there is. Yvonne Strahovski. And not only because she looks nice. She tries in a realistic way to give shape to a character who's terrified and at the same time tries to protect her two panicky children. So expect a lot of hiding and running away while screaming. Kind of stupid though. Because the person who wants to hurt them, always knows where they are. "He's out there" is like an ex-girlfriend. It was fun for a while, but then it turns out she wasn't so special. And before you know it, you are glad you got rid of her. And in no time you are looking for someone else and you have forgotten about her. Let's hope they aren't planning to make a sequel.

I dont get the bad reviews!!!!
blues-9679124 January 2019
Am i missing something here due to the poor reviews. I honestly didnt get people criticising the two young ladies but i have too say when you are constantly being terrorised by a complete deranged psychopath then maybe its understandable. The film had me and my wife gripped from start to finish. I would definately recommend as a terrifying horror flick.

Far from flawless, but had me on the edge of my seat
jtindahouse6 October 2018
'He's Out There' got off to a very clunky start and I thought holy heck this could be a long 90 minutes. Then it started to get interesting. And then it proceeded to get more and more interesting until it reached the point where I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Now it certainly is not without its flaws, which we will get into shortly, but I still have to say I had a hell of a good time with this film.

So let's get the negatives out of the way first. First of all you are going to have to put up with a tremendous amount of small children screaming. They do it pretty much for the entire film and it can wear on you a little. Secondly, the film tries to explain itself and its motives at one point - and (to me at least) they make no sense at all. It's one of the more truly bizarre scenes I've ever seen. Lastly, after so much great tension and suspense throughout the movie, the climactic scene happens in broad daylight and takes away all the good work done up to that point. This decision made no sense and took a lot away from the quality of the movie.

In terms of good stuff. The killer was suitably creepy. A laugh he did (which in hindsight also doesn't make a huge amount of sense - but oh well) was disturbing and brilliantly executed. He also looked great. I cared abut the characters too, not so much because they were overly likeable, but just because the film never gave me a reason to hate them. I don't mind that approach. I see that the director decided to take his name off this film, and I'm sure he had legitimate reasons for doing that, but I don't think he should be as ashamed of this film as he may feel he needs to be. I enjoyed it overall.

OMG the screeching kids
sbacon-9183121 January 2019
The child actors make this movie unwatchable. The director must have started each scene with I want you to scream, cry and talk at the top of your lungs at all times. Awful.

Hilarious
pharmacynical11 October 2018
This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Everything they set up has no payoff. I think the director is just scared of the outdoors and thinks showing a lake warrants a jump scare noise. There are no characters in this movie. Just mistake machines. No one has character traits and there's no reason for anything that happens.

Very Good Scary Movie until.....
portal179018 September 2018
Sometimes i don't understand a lot of ratings/reviews on some movies. This is one of those cases. I was not sure how to rate this movie cause i thought that 7 is too much but 6 is to low so i decide the 7. This "He's Out There" illustrates exactly what's been happening to a lot of (specially) US Horror movies in this decade. It starts very well, and until half of the movie we got the feeling that this is it. Finally a outstanding horror movie but then..... I start watching this film without any expectations. Surprisingly the first hour was very good/scary but in the case of this movie i thought that had too much drama specially on young caracters. To bad cause it change the rhythm of the sequences and sometimes it gets to much bored. Even in the young acting it's easy to realize that. Anyway, overall it was a good horror movie, nice acting by the young girls, and even the bad guy caracter was very well picked. Nuno Rocha. Portimão. Portugal

Annoying and by the numbers
kosmasp17 January 2019
You've seen one, you've seen them all. Well that sort of thing. But as always, the viewer is way smarter than the characters involved in the movie. So if you know you'll be mad and can't enjoy a movie, where characters are almost always doing the wrong thing, don't even watch it. If you like light horror, with a family theme and a home invasion thing going on, than of course you might have more fun than most that have rated here.

I like the main actress in this (you may know her from her TV show appearances or other small budget movies), but even the love for her cannot really save the movie or rather the very limited scope of the "story" that is going on in this. Watch but you have been warned

He's Out There: Just adding to the reasons I hate kids
Platypuschow13 January 2019
Stop me if you've heard this one, a group of people go stay in a secluded house within a forest and come under attack from a masked assailant. Original stuff, huh!

He's Out There uses that time tested formula and is a mindless slasher film which brings very little originality to the table.

A mother and her two daughters go to a cabin by the lake on vacation, the husband is running late etc etc etc. It's so cliche it hurts, it's 2018 why do they still make movies like this? Don't get me wrong I'm not putting down the slasher sub-genre, what I mean is a generic slasher film that is a near carbon copy of literally hundreds of others.

The film has it's moments (Though nothing ground breaking) but as I'm sat here writing this review I'm struggling to think of what to write. What can I possibly say about such cookie cutter material?

I will say this, the two children are deeply annoying. Being a person who generally despises kids that will probably come as no surprise but these two little "Darlings" take it to the next level. Annoying, unlikable, belligerent and characters like that just make me root for the bad guy!

If you like slashers you may find enjoyment but be aware you'll go in knowing exactly how the entire movie will play out step by step.

The Good:

Haunting opening

Interesting antagonist

The Bad:

Deeply annoying unlikable children

Very little in the way of originality

It was okay
Melanie2121-120 January 2019
People are complaining about the kitds. Geez they we're just scared and sick. I didn't find them annoying at all. The older daughter was a wus when the mother asked her to do stuff but what was she like ten. The kids were way less annoying than the kid from Babadook. I wanted that kid to die. How would u react at a super young age in that situation!? I don't think you'd jump out with a knife or gun like hello mfers you're dead

Unrealistic
JaeHoonChae13 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Multiple scenes just wasnt realistic. A parent wouldve yelled at their child for wondering out into the street. But she don't and neither does the dad? C'mon Knowing a killers out there, mom decides to leave her kids in the closet after hearing noises in the house to get a car? Mom takes the time to unwrap multiple gifts to lure the killer to her when she's injured? I dont blame the actors but some of the scenes were ridiculous and the ending? So cliche.

Solidly good horror
ioannisvamvakitis2 October 2018
Another film battered by viewers who obviously are here to have a laugh and wreck the ratings of solidly good films.

I'm an avid horror fan myself and this when it comes to horror films I'm really hard to please. Although this was not he best horror film ever I would confidently recommend it to all fans of the genre - although it was not the most original film ever, it was well acted and directed ... and at moments it creeped the hell out of me (and I'm NOT easily scared)!!!

Dumb title - decent movie.
bryanakers31 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Some confusion comes with the movie... why does the stoic, deep-voiced killer have an evil, disturbed clown laugh, exactly? At one point, I wasn't sure if there was one bad guy or multiple. How did the younger child go from having trouble breathing and needing an emergency room ASAP to screaming her head off with seemingly no health issues? Why is the mother not all THAT disturbed that her child was close to the street?

That being said, the movie was tense and I was drawn in to the storyline and anticipation of what would happen next. I'll preface this by saying that I don't watch a ton of horror movies, but there were some scenes that I felt had some originality. Another review mentioned that the ending was strange because it happened in broad daylight. I felt that added to the creepiness of the whole thing. There is no...safety of the morning. The nightmare continues!

Yvonne was excellent in her role and I felt the kids were pretty realistic. The reviews that mention how annoying the kids are because of their screaming... I mean, really? What do you expect them to do? These are girls that fall into a tea party trap in the middle of the woods - that is their intellect level. Come on now..

I don't feel the need to watch it again, but I am glad that I saw it. Will there be another? Could be, and I would probably tune in.

Another horror movie
bsmeets8718 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is just another one of those horror movies where you can see what's coming; the phone line's dead, the lights go out and of course, the car doesn't work. A bunch of stupid mistakes and terribly annoying kids create the drama and frustration..
