losing a child will destroy you
MiketheWhistle3 July 2019
This and the primary episode does indeed show exactly how losing a child will destroy one. How Millie acts is very telling, and I have to say it destroyed me as well when I lost a child. It shows just how one wants to deaden everything so as to not feel the bad. She gave a very good performance.

We're not on the island anymore!

Warning: Spoilers
S4E2 @38mininutes 18 seconds

Olivia and Jake return from the island in order to attend Harrison's funeral. But Jake soon realizes that they are never going back to stand in the sun". Not willing to stand in the wing's waiting for her, he gets a place of his own. The song McArther's Park (Donna Summer) plays in the background of a steamy love scene between Oliva and Jake. Jake has checked into a hotel and let Liv know that he is available for "booty calls". Unable to convince Jake to come over to her apartment, Olivia heads over to the hotel suite, clothed only in a winter coat and boots! Passions arise when she removes the coat and summons Jake. They're not on the island anymore but they bring the heat! #Olake.

Colder in tone, less of a soap opera
RyanCShowers12 October 2014
Another credible effort that springs the fourth season off nicely. Wait did I just use the word credible to describe "Scandal"? The world is changing. But so is the tone of "Scandal". It's becoming colder and more less of a soap opera. (It's about time.) Bellamy Young was buzzed about so often last season, but the acclaim is going over my head. I'm finding her to be extremely phony and quite trashy, easily my least favorite cast member. However, the Olivia, Fitz, and Jake storyline is working seductively well. I figured Fitz and Olivia would be kept apart for a longer period of time (with the conclusion from last week's premiere indicating that anyway), so it was a pleasant narrative surprise to see them interact. This led to the rousing "State of the Union" conclusion, which Tony Goldywn performed sufficiently. The "Scandal" spell and the fun of the show is beginning to hit me. And the more I exposed to Washington's acting style, the more I find her effective.

Grade: B
