One man mission

Bellamy is inside! Too bad that Lincoln had a change of heart and now poor Bellamy is a prisoner. Will he able to get free and help the others? And how about president Wallace? He seems reluctant to use the kids from the Ark. Will he discover what his son and Dr. Tsing are doing? Jasper is really nervous about Monty and Harper's disappearance. And back outside, Clarke, Raven and the others are worried, as they haven't got any news from Bellamy.

That Bellamy (even though Clarke is the leader, and there are other important characters) has become the one "with heart" hasn't been clearer than it's in this episode. Bob Morley is a good enough actor (capable of more than just blank stares), and the show is giving him more than enough options to express emotions. Till this moment, the Mount Weather people were basically sleazy, ignorant or dangerous. In this one, through his eyes, Mount Weather people become more human than ever. Sadly, the show also uses some cheap tricks to do so, but it's a sin than can be forgiven.

But that's not the only good aspect of this episode, probably the best of the series so far. Tension is high, there's not too much action but it's greatly done, and the characters that the fan has learn to care about are given development. Probably Octavia going native is the one that's rushed the most. But "The 100" is one of those few shows which can make the viewer care about all the characters, and which offer more than just white & black situations. And this Bellamy centered one is nothing short of amazing.

Like a fine wine, this episode gets better with age.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode just gets better with repeat viewing... I watched seasons one and two twice but then after season three's episode "thirteen" I took a hiatus from The 100. It's been nearly 3 years since I last watched this episode and I have to say it is one of the strongest of the series...

We see the best and worst in everyone. And IMO this is the crux of the season, where we see lines crossed, borders broken, and black and white mashed into shades of grey... This is one of those episodes where we learn so clearly that there can be no "winners" at the end of the day, just degrees of losers since nobody comes out the other end entirely whole, physically or mentally.

The whole episode is TV gold... Maya's pain and conflict is sublime and precious and the President shows his true mettle. Then we have Clarke and Raven's unresolved conflict bubbling through... And then there was Bellamy....

The stand out feature of this episode was the horrific, no holds barred fight scene between Bellamy and the prison guard.

This is one of the most brutal fight scenes I have ever watched on a TV series from the US... Violent, disturbing, gut wrenching and blood soaked.

This show as a whole seems to be in two minds about how to present physical combat: Contrast this with the rather unlikely scene of a girl (Octavia) fighting a male, experienced Grounder in the prior episode... But here they are hammering home the personal costs to each and every character involved... No-one takes home the prize.

Overall, this episode, with its multiple plot lines delivering fruit and its top notch production and acting is still, to this day -and on third viewing- one of the finest episodes I have ever had the pleasure of watching.

Evil takes control, from this point the war is coming. The direction is really interesting and fun to watch. Also good acting and dialog.
