Hysterically (but unintentionally) funny
jhwalker-946-91475029 September 2014
Each week, these backwoods bumblers build some wacky device designed to "capture" a ghost.

Their accents so thick it's almost impossible to understand them without subtitles, they exposit some ridiculous theory about how you can catch a ghost with bubble gum and paper clips (or some such) and proceed to mount an "investigation" at some purportedly haunted location (e.g., hospital / asylum).

Sometimes, they claim to have "caught something" and spend the last 15 minutes of the show trying to communicate with whatever it is they "caught" - in one recent episode, they thought the ghost might have been captured in a quartz stone and spent several minutes literally talking to a rock!

I would have given this one star, but the fact it's so ludicrous has a bit of entertainment value in and of itself - it's *almost* worth watching just for the eye-rolling exercise.

Could be good.

Warning: Spoilers
As founder of a very successful ghost hunting group, I've seen my fair share of these types of shows. These guys obviously know their way around the investigation and related equipment. They use the devices properly, tag their evp's, and do a decent job of recording review. The locations are incredible, and dangerous. The show is generally very watchable, until you get to the second half hour and they start with introducing their gimmic for this weeks show. This whole thing with these gimmic devices they think will capture, physically, a spirit are frankly a joke that makes the show lose a ton of credibility. Lose the gimmic, and continue with capturing scientific evidence of the paranormal. You obviously have the skills and equipment to do so, and some fantastic locations to make it happen.

The dumbing down of America - No Way
poochoneill4 October 2014
This is one of the funniest shows I've seen in years. I tape the episodes and show them to people because they don't believe me when I tell them about them. My favorite is the limestone water pump ghost trap where the "wraith chasers" put a canning jar with a piece of limestone in a net in a fish tank full of water and "trap" the ghost in the jar by running electricity through the water. Of course the guys have to lure the ghost to the ground floor as they don't want to have to lug the fish tank up the stairs especially since the chasers/numbnuts filled the tank before they thought about carrying it up. They then urge the ghost to jump into the tank telling him/her/it that "it's just like a jacuzzi" Also funny is the leader in a muscle shirt checking out his guns (arms) when they discuss releasing the ghost back at their headquarters/garage in Tennessee. You gotta watch it.

So disappointed
flinchn16 September 2014
When I first saw the promos over the summer, I guess I held out hope that the show would be half history / half exploring or a narrative deftly weaving the two. Instead, we get a retread of all the other ghost/monster hunter shows, where the participants all act like they hear or see something- apparently ignorant that bad acting is not convincing.

dude, that door just closed by itself !

I love abandoned asylums, prisons and ghost stories (even though I don't believe in ghosts) Watch Session 9, do your own research on the web- and take your own tours if you are interested in this sort of thing.

Terrible
harbingerofapocalypse26 April 2015
I was pumped when I saw the ads for this one. Finally thought we might have a decent filler for between seasons of the gold-standard Ghost Adventures. I gave it four episodes and wanted it to work, but it just got worse and worse.

It follows the same idiotic formula of most of the other ghost shows (especially Ghost Hunters - so much so that I wonder maybe they have the same producers, I don't know). Each one opens with them on the drive to their next investigation, on walkie-talkies between vehicles (why? why not just use speaker on the cell?) telling each other about where they're going and some of the history or interesting facts - as if they all would not already know all that stuff before leaving.

Then they chat with some of the people at the place they're investigating, pick up some names of some of the people that used to live/work there. Then they investigate.

The investigations are generally pathetic. Most times it's all 5 of them, plus however many camera and sound men behind them, all in the same room, shuffling around, making noise, etc. Every time something happens they jump to conclusions and attach the event to whatever name they picked up in their interviews (e.g. John used to work there - one of them felt touched after asking John a question - therefor it was 'definitely' John that was trying to communicate with them). Every happening has to be followed by a cutaway of one of the guys, scripted but pretending to be a spontaneous interview, talking as if they are still onsite and it just occurred, pointlessly describing the event that we just watched happen not 15 seconds earlier. They don't use equipment properly or consistently, they fail to do even the most basic debunking most of the time (e.g. a cigarette burns hotter as if being puffed by a ghost, or birthday candle smoke drifts as if blown by one - in both instances while the items are surrounded by nearly all of them facing the items and talking. No test to make sure it wasn't the breath from one of them talking or movement or something, just a declaration of how 'amazing' that evidence was.)

Near the end of the investigation they start with the show's gimmick - building a 'trap' to catch a ghost in. They pretend like they come up with the idea for the trap on the spot and then go to the nearest Home Depot for the stuff to put it together. The trap ideas are ridiculous. The whole concept is just plain stupid.

At the end of the show they meet in their little office that looks more like a backyard shed and review the evidence. 95% of it is crap or personal experience that can't be corroborated. If they have an evp, most of the time they just tell you what they think is said and then play it real quick and then move on to the next piece of evidence, rarely cleaning it up or playing it slowly so we can hear clearly. I can't think of a single decent piece of video evidence (partly because they hardly use any cameras, or don't use them strategically - nearly all video is taken by the camera crew following them around) - the ones I can remember are from the FLIR camera and as usual, they appear to misinterpret or jump to conclusion.

There is only one single aspect of this entire show that I like - that their investigations span multiple nights. I wish GA would go multi-night. Aside from just being able to gather a higher quantity of evidence, I think it would lend more credibility to what is gathered if they continued to get the same evidence over multiple nights.

Anyway, they might be nice guys in real life, but in this show they come off as dunces and dooshbags. A massive disappointment and wasted opportunity.

Boring and Disturbing
Ivey-Rose13 April 2015
There are some interesting things they find, but their efforts to communicate with the spirits they encounter are less than mediocre. I also find it incredibly sad and upsetting that they would go into a place, especially after praying to God, and then try to trap a spirit. I do not think it has ever been clearly stated what they intend to do with a spirit if they do capture one, but the thought of trying to force a spirit into an object or other such material prison seems, to be quite frank, cruel to the spirit! I know these boys probably come from a strong hunting culture, being from the South myself, but this is not a game. The dead shouldn't be trapped and drug back home for your amusement. That is not only asking for trouble but it is incredibly disrespectful to those who have probably not died decent deaths.

Should be called Hillbilly Asylum
huber_brent24 May 2015
Basically it is 5 rednecks in the basement of an old building talking to no one. Each one of them will ask the "ghost" in the room questions. Funny watching 5 guys talking to imaginary friends.

They use tape recorders and cameras that show nothing. These guys will catch the shadow of another and freak out and think it was proof of a ghost. I have no idea if this is scripted or not, but noway I would want these guys to help me if I had a real ghost problem. I really do not think these guys would know what to do if they sow a ghost instead a draft in a basement.

Finally, at the end of the show they try to catch the "ghosts" with some crazy white trash invention. Like a fish take full of water, a shop vac or even a mason jar. after watching two of their shows, I could not bare another one!!

I think it's entertaining and not the same as all the others...
blueskiesonly13 December 2015
OK, I get it, it's a stretch they may ever catch a ghost, but hey, at least they're being creative and other then just recording evps, they're coming up with inventions to remove bad or evil spirits. I also find their faith refreshing and they're amusing too. They rib each other and seem to be humble southern boys. Their evidence is just as good and compelling as the other shows out there but they have added these other couple elements to their investigations that add depth and make them all the more endearing. Imo, at least I'm not being subject to the same boring investigations that have been on way too long and egos that have chased not ghosts away, but other members of their team!!

Keep It Up
majgubbe-1689918 April 2016
I'm so glad to see that this group takes extra steps to bring in science, tech and engineering into the field.

This is what we supposed to do, push the limits, test and experiment things out. always think "What if" and actually try it out in numerous ways as well.

This has been to much stagnant and tip-toeing in this field, so hope you guys can keep it up and do a lot more exploring and experimenting.

Also like the fact you put more emphasis on the hunting part, other shows uses up to much time into history and interviews, as it stand starting season 2 its very well balanced.

Ridiculously absurd
brianCam7 April 2015
Just another ghost hunter show destined to be tossed in with the dozens of other ones that have been canceled. As soon as someone can explain to me how a "little southern know-how" is beneficial or an indication of intelligence then I'll stop thinking of it as redneck ignorance. As far as their intentions of catching a ghost. Often these ghost hunters forget that these spirits, for the most part, were human beings. As far as we know, they can go through walls, hover near ceilings and possibly even be in two places at once. When the investigators are talking out loud about how their trap is going to capture a spirit or shouting to get a response, don't you think there's a really good chance the spirit(s) are standing there listening to every word, shaking their heads and wishing people were not so ignorant. My favorite scene was at the end of one show where they were discussing their findings and muscle boy was standing(posing) in front of a picture of the team where he is clearly shown in a similar muscle t-shirt. He gets my vote for #1 douche-bag of 2015. Congratulations!

Refreshingly real.
valkyreve25 January 2016
I enjoy watching the crew and love their accents and even if Chasey can be a little hard to follow he's adorable. I also love how Brannon tries to make a new "ghost trap" each week. It's ingenious and hilarious. XD

Admittedly it does follow similar traditions to other ghost shows, but hey... what else can you do that hasn't already been done? You take photo's, do EVP's etc.

All round good effort. They don't try to scam you with fake and over dramatised scenes like some other popular shows. Maybe some people like the over the top ham acting of other shows but I for one love the down to earth, no nonsense approach of this honest crew. Good job guys!

Duck Dynasty meets Ghost Adventures
jmbwithcats9 September 2014
So I watched the first episode of "Ghost Asylum", which I'm calling Duck Dynasty meets Ghost Adventures = Ghost Busters?

You gotta be kidding me... I started out not very happy about this, but I gotta say I liked the solar panel ghost attractor idea... and gathering up old hospital trigger objects, that's called doing your due diligence... this might not be so bad after all...

We'll see, this is just the first episode, and if it does well it could get a higher budget and start to utilize more creativity they have up their sleeves.

Only time will tell. Being the show is on Destination America, a channel dedicated to the paranormal, my guess is they will be able to throw a budget at the show and see how far it can go, the way they do with many of their other shows.

Capturing ghosts, trapping them in a faraday cage, releasing the capacitors in a peaceful place so they can cross over? Intriguing... I don't think a paranormal investigation show has ever done that before...

A Ghost Adventures Rip-off
msaverio10 November 2015
This show is the epitome of ridiculousness with regards to similar Ghost type shows. The idea that they claim to not only identify the spirits, but capture them makes me pee with laughter. The lead guy, a Zak Bagans wanna-be complete with tight tee shirts, is almost as annoying and much less attractive.

The stories are so over the top with hype and talk-overs that it only makes sense this show was created specifically to cater to an intellectually impaired target audience. Other than that this is the most dimwitted show I have ever attempted to watch especially with their pseudo-scientific ghost hunting/catching machines and theories. Pure BS.

Huntin' and Fishn' ghosts ain't your game fellas because while you guys are out catchin' spirits a sheep is going to bed alone....

Just wrong
crissy_snow1 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This show is wrong on so many levels. There is really nothing i can say that has not been stated by so many others who thought this show was 'stupid' 'wrong' 'crazy' 'absurd'

The accents of these goof-balls is a slap in the face to real southern folks. The guy in the tank top with the muscles he wants everyone to know how tough he thinks he is. Come on dude, really tank tops? really???? a nice fitting shirt would give the same effect, and not make you look like your more interested in yourself than the investigation.

They say they are trying to help these spirits, so they gasp, yell, scream, whoa' and act totally freaked out? i'm sure all the spirits will want to trust you totally guys... i'm so tired of ghost hunters, paranormal investigators who are suppose to be investigating, and then act totally freaked out by the fact they are getting spirit activity.

and who put them in charge of what to do with these spirits? i like the idea of giving them the option to "go to the light", "your dead".

the traps are just so over the top. The idea you can trap a spirit in a trap is making it look like a comedy rip off of ghost busters.

the only good thing about this show is Brannon. He is the most down to earth, least phony dude of the five. I really adore him, i don't believe in his traps, but i love the way he explains the traps, if i wasn't smart enough to realize a spirit who can roam through walls could be trapped in a gadget, i would believe him. I want to believe him, but damn i just don't, sorry Brannon. Your absolutely adorable.

can not believe this show was renewed past the pilot episode.

We deserve better than this
justjoannah24 August 2015
Surely producers can come up with better than this . Are they being paid?

It really is a joke trying to trap a ghost, asking is it you who died in the accident? Oh my whatever next. What with this and mountain monsters .seems like reality viewing has taken a huge turn for the worse. Come on let's have some real reality shows please, after all were paying to view or turn off. Ha. There's one thing they have got right they're asylum ,stark raving mad. Can't watch it anymore my sides are aching with laughing. Any new shows in the offing we can look forward to please?real reality ones?

I just don't get it?
lkristinexoox16 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I am a huge fan of the paranormal, but this show is just ridiculous. It's hilarious. Their accents are bad and being from the south myself, trust me, it's really bad. It could be a good show but, "trapping" spirits just sounds silly and illogical. I wish they would explain exactly how they came up with the idea that that would be possible. Where did that come from? I have a lot of trouble taking these guys seriously. I cant even begin to even try and assume that their evidence is real, with the ridiculous "ghost trapping". How can they think that something spiritual can be trapped physically? Maybe I am harping on the trapping too much, but it is just so funny. I wish so much this was a good, well thought out program. But, as I sit here and listen to them right now, it's not. I also think this kind of takes investigating the paranormal a step back rather than a step forward. Anyone who was skeptical of the whole premise would take one look at this show and it would only confirm their uncertainty. I was really hoping this would be something special and interesting, but dejectedly here I sit in front of my computer writing this nullifying review. Good Luck, boys.

Trapping Spirits
thatparanormalblog28 November 2015
My biggest contention with this show was the "trapping of the spirits." First, if this were even possible, who gives them the right to do so? For what reason would this be necessary? If anything wouldn't the right thing to do be to help any that are earthbound cross over? I mean it is just wrong, and ridiculous. I knew when I was watching this show on you-tube that it was only going to be a one or two season deal. Most of the shows that have been successful have run their course. I'd love to see a paranormal investigation show that was a little more professional, that utilizes more than just a few gadgets that light up and bleeps here and there. I am tired of investigators that jump and get scared at every sound and constantly stand around with their mouths open asking "what was that?" Don't they realize its their job to find out? Not just stand around looking bewildered and dumbstruck. I believe in spirits, and paranormal phenomena as a whole, but I am still a skeptic where mans involvement lies. As such I want to see real investigators, real scientific applications, and mediums that are legit- and yes I believe there are many, to investigate haunted locations. I think going around and asking locals and doing a lot of research on the place prior to the investigation is not an effective way to investigate a location because it puts ideas into the investigators heads and allows them to interpret evidence, evps etc with advance knowledge. The show that comes closest to this would be Dead Files, since there are two separate but different investigations taking place and even then I am sure there is room for improvement since any show of this nature is going to fall under immense scrutiny and criticism.

I love this show.
jackie-1681917 April 2016
I love this show. I am hoping they are earnest in their ghost chasing. I am tired of faked ghost shows. I have found a few of them that announced they were fake. I was so disappointed. These guys look like they are the real thing. Chris is gorgeous! Lol! But I really like them all. Love the locations but I wish they would do some that other ghost shows don't do for something new. Don't stop doing what you're doing. Love it. How about some different locations, guys. With all the shows that are on there has got to be more places you could travel to. How about some other kinds of haunted properties, libraries, houses, war memorials. Etc. Thank you for your program I watch it every Sunday.

Awesome New Concept
griffinwwoodward8 March 2016
Finally something real and original. I think the crew is extremely brave to attempt something like this on TV. Especially when every failed attempt can lead to a lot of ridicule. Who knows if it is truly possible to catch a ghost. But these guys are testing science in every way possible.

Most of these shows are just about catching evidence. These guys have good intentions, and don't treat the entities like circus acts. Every episode keeps you on the edge of your seat.

This is the first ghost hunting reality show I have cared enough about to rate. I really hope this show will continue.

What... A... Joke...
phattrider18 October 2017
These guys are a group of jokers. Some shows are scripted and the actors are so good you would never know, but these guys sound like they're reading the script like they're learning their lines. The contraptions they come up with to "Capture" the spirits, give me a break! Like the episode where they supposedly captured a spirit in a stone, are they serious? Their EVP's are questionable too. Perfect example, the one where they asked who was the leader after the Civil War. They heard Abraham Lincoln. We played that back over a dozen times, sounds like static. There are no recognizable words spoken. Destination America needs to take this show off the air, or give these guys better acting lessons.

pretty bad
PRVanAken3 December 2015
The only saving grace about this show is the Tennessee accents of the Ghost Asylum team. But, you get over that and then try to get into the ghost hunting they do, but you come up short.

The ghost trap stuff they do is an adolescent fantasy. In fact, the whole show has an adolescent flavor to it. I've watched many episodes, well maybe five, and really tried to get excited about it. But, I couldn't. I found the team leader's showing off his buff physique to be offensive, pathetic. He can can hardly walk normally, he's so stiff. Sure, he's probably a super guy, but man, that bodybuilder stuff is ridiculous. Well, I guess better than being obese like the rest of the crew.

Worst paranormal show ever
turkishjohn5 April 2016
This show is worse than the haunted collector. I'm convinced the guy in the hat just wants to be on TV. I am interested in paranormal shows but I'm tired of the paranormal uniform black shirts, the not so handsome t-shirt guy with muscles trying to be cool in the cap, showing off his "guns". They all go to the same places. Really! How is your take different than that of the other million investigators that have done this already? There are two things that this show has going for it 1. They pray first which is good because this show is so bad I think they need to appease Jesus. If he had a TV and saw this, I think he would be ruing the day!! 2. It's hilarious. It's so awkward and not entertaining that it's quite humorous. You should avoid this at all costs.

Contains Spoiler
keetoosya14 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
We watch recorded episodes of this show in Russia on You Tube and after watching one season of this we stopped!

To the one who likes to pose in muscle shirts, if you did that in Russia you would get your ass kicked each and every day. You would be labeled by a Russian woman as a self centered fairy. Russians hate people who are in love with themselves. We find it hilarious that they think that they can catch a ghost (yes, something that can go through walls) with crazy inventions. Only Jesus has the power, not a bunch of hillbillies as you Americans call people with no intelligence. Can someone tell us why Americans on these shows always keep the cameras on their own face instead of filming the place getting investigated? Who cares what their facial reaction is when they hear a sound or see something! We don't care about your face, we want to see what you think you saw!!! They also talk too much on this show, it's as if they like to interview each other when they hear something! No, this show is very terrible, don't waste time.

HYPOCRITES!!!!
kimandartjr10 February 2020
I once corresponded with them telling them what had happened to me and my little girl. Now you would think that what they do is supposedly believe in ghosts and try to get evidence and connect with them. Well I think they are total hypocrites!!! We were being haunted by several spirits but one especially was harming us. And the final straw that forced me to find help was when my child was hit in the head with a very heavy toy of which she still carries the scar. I hired a very well known and reputable team, the Pennsylvania Paranormal Association. They were tremendous and their medium helped move them on. When I told the leader of the group my story, he said horrible things, insulting me and calling me a lunatic then blocked me so I could not respond! Does that sound like people who care about helping anyone with possible hauntings?! Not hardly! All they care about is getting good ratings and lots of money and they don't care who they hurt in the process! Don't let them fool you, they are the ultimate hypocrites!!!
