Who would have thought the criminal would have been the ?????
Ed-Shullivan24 November 2021
No spoiler alert here is necessary as I am not about to give away any clues as to who is committing multiple burglaries in this Tony neighborhood or how the break-ins are occurring. Suffice to say that Detective Mike Logan (Cameron Mathison) agrees to go undercover as a nanny for a family of four which includes a young boy and girl who both need some guidance to achieve their extra curricular goals which their new nanny Detective Mike Logan is only too happy to provide.

While investigating the neighborhood burglaries, Detective Mike Logan is also getting to know the neighborhood nannies and he develops a special liking for neighborhood nanny Jessica White (Sarah Lancaster).

There are sufficient suspects to consider, and Detective Mike Logan's experience as a housekeeper/nanny remain questionable but the kids develop a love/hate/love relationship with him.

This is a very easy watching Lifetime TV film with some comedy and romance interspersed and no violence to speak of with a decent yet somewhat predictable ending for a Lifetime film.

I give it a passing grade 6 out of 10 IMDB rating.

Undercover nanny
bkoganbing18 July 2017
I confess I had to look twice when I saw that Detective Mike Logan was going undercover as a nanny. I couldn't imagine Chris Noth from the Law And Order franchise doing this after he picked up his pension from the NYPD. However it was Canadian actor Cameron Matthison being an undercover nanny in this Hallmark Mystery film.

In the upscale neighborhood of Poplar Point there has been a rash of burglaries. Since this is a rich community Matthison gets the assignment to track down and apprehend those responsible and there are several though only one does the actual burglaries.

Matthison decides an unusual approach. He gets hired through an employment agency as an nanny and after a fashion proves adept at the job. He also gets a little romance going with Sarah Lancaster.

Typical Hallmark product, but I have to say the motive for all the burglaries is an unusual and original one for these films.

Worth seeing for that alone.

cute movie
lisamba28 April 2017
I liked this movie. It was cute and funny at times and had a little excitement at the end. But the strange thing was they had 2 different dogs, a really old dog at the beginning and a much younger dog after the first scene of the dog. The movie kept you guessing who was the guilty person all the way though the movie. Also I didn't hear any loud sounds over the music.

Too much ineptitude

Warning: Spoilers
6.5 stars.

I have to admit the film is somewhat entertaining. What? Yep, I said it. The female lead is absolutely one of my favorites, so just her presence elevates my rating 0.5 stars. The bit of chemistry between the leads (it exists) is also nice. Some say there is no chemistry, but I disagree, and this feels like a more authentic sort of chemistry. She is a bit disappointed in him for this or that, he flubs up, bottom line: poor guy is a terrible detective. I don't know why Hallmark makes detectives out to be buffoons. No expertise, no higher level sleuthing skills, certainly nothing akin to Sherlock.

When he allegedly forgets to set the alarm and the home is robbed...First of all, that is the key factor that he is an amateur at best, and yet he's already a seasoned detective? If he actually forgot to set the alarm, he's inept. If he set the alarm and isn't 100% certain, he's still inept. If he set the alarm and knows without a doubt, and so now that points him to the actual robber...well of course that isn't an option, because it would make this mystery way too easy to solve. So, we are stuck with scenario B: he isn't sure if he set the alarm. But a real detective would never overlook such a crucial detail, resulting in case closed.

Fledgling romance aside, this is a poor story. The drama and attraction between the nannies is what makes it watchable. But there isn't enough screen time shared between the two, so the director over-emphasizes the mystery and puts the romance on the back burner (mistake). Should've given an extra ten minutes to the relationship and 'Along Came a Nanny' would be balanced.

Brendan Penny as the creepy male pursuer is interesting. I wonder if this was before he became a leading Hallmark figure, I'm going to take a look at IMDB to find out. Ok, I looked into it and his first feature role as a leading male was in another movie that was released in 2014. He was on his way up, 2013-2014 was his big break. He starred in a leading role in a detective series called 'Motive' in 2013-2016, 'Tis the Season for Love' in 2016, 'Chesapeake Shores' - 2016.

'Along Came a Nanny' (2014)

Opening thoughts: Personally have no bias against the Hallmark murder/crime mysteries, as there are some decent ones out there (whether part of their numerous mystery series or not). Cameron Mathison is nearly always watchable and more, even in the films of his that are not good. Likewise with Sarah Lancaster. Hallmark's Movies and Mysteries block has always varied every year and expectations actually weren't high for 'Along Came a Nanny', which did sound really far fetched.

My low expectations were not only met with the execution 'Along Came a Nanny' but it managed to be worse than expected. Even Mathison can't save this. 2014 did see some good Hallmark films like 'A Ring By Spring', but also some real stinkers. Of which 'Along Came a Nanny' is one of them and one of the worst of them. There are also some good Hallmark Movies and Mysteries films, though more the films with more serious themes and family dilemmas than the crime mystery ones, but 'Along Came a Nanny' again is among the worst.

Goos things: By all means it is not completely disposable. The scenery is quite nice.

Lancaster also does her best, her role is sketchy but she does bring some charm and authority to it and looks comfortable at least.

Bad things: Unfortunately, so much works against 'Along Came a Nanny'. Pretty much wasted by some really chaotic and self-indulgent camera work and drab lighting. The usually very watchable Matthison looks ill at ease and his performance is lifeless as a character whose behaviour is truly inept and clueless throughout. He and Lancaster, which has been good in other films of theirs, is completely bland and found their initial scenes forced. The rest of the performances are a mix of ham overdose and mailing it in in silly stereotypical roles. The direction is unfocused and lacks energy.

Really disliked all the characters, ones with no personality, very vague at best motivations and who behave so outrageously. Especially the responsible. Furthermore, the script is both mundane and contrived, with everything feeling flat and unnatural. The cheese is also too much. The premise is very far fetched and beyond stupid to begin with and the story is wildly implausible and silly with no energy or tension. As well as dully paced and padded out, with some events jumping around. The ending is insultingly ridiculous and the music is intrusive.

Closing thoughts: Overall, very bad.

3/10.

What loud music ?
michaelt28170208524 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
A reviewer in the USA complains in his/her review about loud music throughout this film. I watched this film and enjoyed it "throughout". There was no "loud" music.

Here we have a detective going under cover as a nanny to solve burglaries in a local community.

He gets to know the local ladies, as they talk, and I noticed not a bit of litter could be seen on the streets.

He gets sacked from the job due to a misunderstanding between his employer and his police chief. But is soon back again.

This was a light hearted movie, frothy and fun, with an ending that rounds things off nicely.

All I can say is another 10 stars from Hallmark.

It's the script, stupid!
rebekahrox13 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this all the way through so that earns it at least 2 stars. but man oh man was this Manny, though cute, the dumbest detective ever? His whole methodology consisted of A) writing all the of the names of the people in the neighborhood and drawing arrows from one to another and then studying his drawing in bed night after night like it was Holy Writ. B) congregating on the sidewalk with the other Nannies and asking if they've seen anything unusual. And C) flirting with the pretty Nanny on walks while they are pretending to be sleuths. The perp was entirely obvious, though the motive for the robberies was so dumb, I kept saying to myself "No, It couldn't be...too lame." Plot holes a mile wide. The big clue is a pen with the burglars fingerprints on it, yet they just had to match the prints found at the crime scene with the suspects prints on file as he had a previous record. If you are watching this for the romance, forget that too. Not a bit of charm or chemistry. Lazy and lame, the scriptwriter should have been ashamed to take a paycheck for this dribble.

really liked it.

As Hallmark movies go, this one is very good indeed. Detective goes undercover as a nanny for a sunburn family in in order to crack a case. It has lots of twists and turns and it is a sure bet you will recognize half the cast from other tv shows you have seen. I recommend it highly James Welch Henderson, Arkansas 2/18/2021

super cheap kids entertainment
celticwarrior_amazonwoma22 February 2020
I have to think this was more written to entertain kids, like some kids caper slash comedy. Because Logan overemotes the whole bumbling idiot thing way too much for this to be an actual adult. He's a detective, he hasn't lived under a rock. To fumble around a kitchen fridge or washing machine or juice box block of tofu to the utter point of imbecility is so unbelievable, it's embarrassing to watch. Not for his sake, but for the sake of someone actually writing this drivel. I only wonder if it got better but I couldn't sit through another minute.

Lame
Jackbv12314 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't like Cameron Mathison. I thought he overacted. I didn't buy why Jesse would be attracted to Mike. However, Sarah Lancaster held up her end doing a credible job acting. Kaaren de Zilva was the worst of all. The attempt to contrast Ramos with Mike was completely lame and overplayed.

All aspects of the romance were weak. Building up Mike as Supernanny was overplayed.

But the worst part was the crime story. At least some of the bad guys were pretty obvious from early on. Mike forgot a key clue. The Bannerman's didn't reset the alarm code after Cookie left, especially since they suspected her. In fact with all the robberies, the first thing most homeowners would do would be reset their alarm codes.

The climax was a joke. Real police don't work the way it went down, especially caravanning from one suspect to another. No cop supposed to be watching Cookie would have let her escape. A building like the warehouse can't be locked so people can't get out. A kidnapper doesn't hold his hostage in a plainly marked RV in the middle of a centrally located parking lot with the mayoral candidate sitting there also. A suspect can't get hold of a gun that easily. The sad thing is that I watched this movie all the way through before realizing how bad it was.

A very nice and entertaining movie, highlighting how important it is to protect and safeguard the really important things in a liberal and free society; namely happiness, innocence and public freedoms. And of course, the movie is also very funny :)

Loud Music Throughout
bookandcandle25 April 2015
I love Hallmark movies and mysteries. They are simple to watch and enjoyable.

I sat down last night with my family to watch "Along Came a Nanny" and all we could stand was the first half hour.

The music in the background was louder than the speaking voices. I have two different TV sets and I tried them out on both. Both were the same with that loud banging, "bing-bong" type music that is totally distracting and annoying. There should be no music while the actors are generally speaking, except during a climatic scene. This was not the case. That "bam-bam" music never stopped.

My family and I just turned the channel and that was that. Why ruin a good movie with irritating music, especially during a mystery? One has to concentrate on every word, not have to try and block out the disrupting music to hear every word. Bad job, Hallmark, on this one.
