This was the third attempt to film "Better Late Than Never". The first was back in 1994, but due budgeting and time constraints, filming was abandoned by the creator Christopher Atkins. The second attempt was in 2009, after the script was updated by Matthew Bland and presented his friend Joseph Tan, an indie producer from Middlesbrough. A teaser trailer was filmed with the cast, but sadly Joseph died in May after complications from heart surgery. Matthew decided to abandon the production.
The film is dedicated to Joe, a producer friend of Matthew, who was involved with the film in 2009, but sadly died before production started.
Matthew was originally cast as Simon Oates for the production in 1994. But after several failed attempts, creator Christopher Atkins gave the script to Matthew, who still saw the potential in the project and updated the storyline to coincide with more recent events.
This is the first film in a proposed trilogy of short films about the characters Crawford and Oates. The original film was written as a feature, but the script was split into three short films.
The scene where the cast are dressed up as characters from 'Solid Venom' was actually an on-set joke, as the cast have signed up for a television series of the same name.
