Brian Eno will release an expanded, remastered version of Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks, his 1983 ambient collaboration with Daniel Lanois and brother Roger Eno that features a disc’s worth of new music from the trio.
The package, due out July 19th, includes 11 newly recorded instrumentals: five from Brian and three each from Lanois (“Capsule,” “Last Step From the Surface,” “Fine-grained”) and Roger (“Waking Up,” “Under The Moon,“ “Strange Quiet”). The trio promoted the project — their first collective effort since the original record — with a video for Brian’s “Like I Was a Spectator,...

Hulu’s list of comings and goings for the month of April is out, and the roster for new content on the streaming service includes two Hulu Originals — the first season premiere of “Ramy,” and the seventh episode of “Into The Dark: I’m Just F*cking With You,” with other highlights including Season 3 of Freeform’s “The Bold Type” and John Krasinski’s “A Quiet Place.”
“Ramy,” debuting April 19, tells the story of first generation Egyptian-American Ramy Hassan as he finds himself in his New Jersey neighborhood, stuck at a crossroads between the morals of his Muslim community and the moral ambiguity of his millennial generation. “Into The Dark: I’m Just F*cking With You,” coming April 1, finds two siblings in a secluded motel, where they become subject to practical jokes of an increasingly frightening nature.

The stream of fall rollouts continues, although at a bit slower pace on the specialty box office front compared with recent weekends. Among them however is the Coen brothers’ anticipated The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, with Netflix beginning a very limited theatrical run today in New York at The Landmark 57 West, at The Landmark Los Angeles and the Embarcadero Center Cinema in San Francisco.
Buster Scruggs is one of three Netflix films — along with Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma and Susanne Bier’s Bird Box — to get a rare pre-streaming theatrical release as the company looks to to boost awareness for its awards-season fare. This film is also screening this weekend at AFI Fest and will be available via the service next week.
As per Netflix, the company doesn’t plan to release box office figures for its films.

Alessandro Nivola looks like a conventionally handsome leading man, but has largely had the career of a character actor so far — something that may factor in his being relatively under-sung for an impressive screen résumé stretching back two decades now. That, and the fact that he’s often most effective as the quiet, watchful center around which more histrionic characters revolve (whether they know it or not) in indies such as “Junebug” and the recent “Disobedience.” They’re not the types of performances that typically attract awards, yet those films would lose much of their impact without the subtle gravitas he contributes.
Nivola is just about able to pull off the same trick as the central figure in “Weightless.” But Canadian music-video and commercials veteran Jaron Albertin’s U.S.-produced first feature proves unfortunately named — despite the emotional terra firma Nivola and other cast members try to provide, this...

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: What better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? This week […]

The series about the glorified Jersey crew also starred Edie Falco as Tony’s wife Carmela, Steven Van Zandt as his consigliere, Jamie‑Lynn Sigler, Dominic Chianese, Steve Schirripa, Bracco, Imperioli, and Sirico. Martin Scorsese’s go-to guy, the late Frank Vincent, wound up as the don of a New York family.
