In the history of Grand Slam tennis, no player has dominated a tournament in the same vein as Rafael Nadal has at Roland Garros.
The Spaniard's geometric mastery of Court Philippe-Chatriter and his unrivaled resilience on the surface have fittingly earned him the title of King of Clay. Throughout his distinguished career, Nadal has always been the benchmark in clay-court tennis.
When he was introduced to the French public on his debut in 2005 wearing a sleeveless green top and white capri pants, few would have taken him seriously as a potential elite athlete in the making.
But he became a symbol of the French Open for the next two decades, winning a record 14 titles. In this article, we shall take an in-depth look at Nadal's career at the tournament, which defines his legacy.

It’s been 30 years since a film from India has been selected in the main competition at Cannes, but that finally changed this year.
Recent editions of Sundance, Tribeca, and Toronto have included riveting and even Oscar-nominated documentaries and features. In fact, Mira Nair’s “Monsoon Wedding” won the Golden Lion at Venice more than two decades ago. Granted, Cannes has recently programmed South Asian gems in other sections, such as the Queer Palm-winning “Joyland” from Pakistan in Un Certain Regard in 2022, or Anurag Kashyap’s “Kennedy” in Midnight last year. But would the South Asian drought in the main competition ever end?
Many were ecstatic last month when “All We Imagine as Light”, Mumbai-based Payal Kapadia’s narrative directorial debut, was announced in the competition lineup alongside legendary Cannes regulars: European heavyweights such as Jacques Audiard and Yorgos Lanthimos, American auteurs David Cronenberg and Paul Schrader, and Asian visionary Jia Zhangke.

Senior royal family members are a network of high-ranking members a monarch can rely on to carry out duties for them. Working royals are higher up in the line of ascension than non-working royals. As they work every day to assist Crown Inc., there are questions as to how they are compensated. How much money do senior royals make? How do they get paid?
Personal income and taxpayer money paid senior royals
The number of current working royals under King Charles is less than during Queen Elizabeth’s reign. This stark difference is due to a dwindling pool of senior royal family members and an aging workforce.
The working royals draw on an expense account called The Sovereign Grant, a lump sum paid by the United Kingdom’s government and taxpayers.
The Grant pays for costs associated with official duties such as staff, security, and travel. As of April 2024, the Sovereign Grant was worth $108 million.

After a long wait, the U.S.S. Enterprise has received a response from the planet Eminiar VII. They had hoped to contact the planet and establish diplomatic relations with the inhabitants in the star cluster. But the message they receive in return is simple: stay away.
When Kirk gets that reply, he intends to respects their wishes. But no sooner does he order the Enterprise to change course than a man arrives on the bridge and overrides Kirk. This moment must have shocked the first viewers of “A Taste of Armageddon” from the first season of The Original Series of Star Trek. After all, who could override the Captain on his own ship?
The answer is the United Federation of Planets, for whom the man, Ambassador Robert Fox (Gene Lyons), works. Although “A Taste of Armageddon” aired in 1967, the distinction between Starfleet and the Federation still confuses viewers today.

Not all of Prince Harry’s Christmases have overflowed with holiday cheer. Sure, the British royal family is known for festive decorations and celebrating over dinner and presents. But the Duke of Sussex had one Christmas, in particular, during his time as a working royal where he felt “unappreciated” and “unloved.” And it happened long before he met his now-wife, Meghan Markle.
Harry spent Christmas 2013 ‘relegated’ to a ‘mini room’ at Sandringham
In between the multiple bombshells and questions answered in Spare, Harry revealed in his January 2023 memoir that Christmas 2013 wasn’t exactly brimming with joy.
“I went directly from the South Pole to Sandringham. Christmas with the family,” he wrote. “Hotel Granny was full that year, overrun by family, so I was given a mini room in a narrow back corridor, among the offices of Palace staff.”
Harry continued, noting he’d “never stayed there before” nor “rarely even set foot there before.

This article contains spoilers from the Grishaverse books.
The cancellation of Netflix’s Shadow and Bone is upsetting for many reasons. The series’ second season ends with several major cliffhangers. The fates of multiple characters are now eternally left up in the air. But mostly it’s because the world of Shadow and Bone has such potential, and it doesn’t feel like we were (or ought to have been) done with it yet. An excellent example of how to do a YA fantasy adaptation right, the series managed to stay remarkably faithful to the spirit of author Leigh Bardugo’s “Grishaverse” series of novels even as it made big changes from the source material.

At 1 First Street in Northeast Washington stands the columned U.S. Supreme Court building, an imposing marble edifice where the most essential constitutional questions are adjudicated. Across generations, Americans held the institution in the highest regard. But not anymore.
Now, according to polls, perceptions of the Court have shifted drastically — from revered redoubt of impartial justice to just another political forum where ideological battles are waged.
Filmmaker Dawn Porter, a Georgetown Law School graduate, examines the Court as it faces an unprecedented crisis of legitimacy in her Showtime documentary series Deadlocked: How America Shaped the Supreme Court. Porter is our guest on the latest episode of Deadline’s Doc Talk podcast, discussing how the nation’s highest tribunal evolved in recent decades from protector of minority rights to, arguably, a protector of minority rule.

Joni Mitchell has announced a new box set called Joni Mitchell Archives, Vol. 3: The Asylum Years (1972-1975), the latest release in her ongoing archival project. The 5xCD/4xLP package is out October 6th via Rhino, while a demo version of her 1974 song “Help Me” is out now.
