The Magnum Opus of political satire
conraddesgranges1 May 2022
This episode is simply incredible. It is a serious change of pace from all other episodes, as it's basically C-span for 30 minutes, but the entire season and its antics lead up to this episode so it's an ingenious way of delving into the knot of problems whilst maintaining the shows angle of political satire.

What an incredible way to put this season's criminal actions of the team to rest. Such a great commentary on American politics, whilst still remaining laugh out loud funny. Bravo.

Warning: Spoilers
The essence of VEEP is best showcased through this episode, according to me. I think the shows' charm, humour and likeability centers around the well sketched characters and their interactions. In this short episode we see each character and their idiosyncrasies play out in the testimony situation making sure there is some character development and even story devpt at the end. There are also scenes that the viewer has to interpret (like the one where Selena and Catherine disappear for a few seconds to come back to announce Catherine's broken engagement) the interactions not shown on scene, which I think makes the whole episode much more entertaining.

The 2nd time I can't finish an episode of "Veep"

My overall rating of "Veep"'s Season 4: 5/10

So I thought that "Debate" was an exception, but no, here we go again, another awful, unfunny, boring and over-contrived episode, clearly drawing from "Episode 4.6" of "The Thick of it" but at least thankfully not being nearly as long - even while being about 4 times as long as it needed to be.

Why does Mr. Iannucci keep falling back on that format, so antithetical to the fast-paced, laugh-a-second, indulgently-amoral gold standard of his shows?..
