Executives at 20th Century Fox offered Wes Ball the opportunity to direct The Maze Runner after viewing his incredible short film, Ruin, which he gladly accepted.
Wes Ball, director of the Maze Runner, spent about 4 years in total working on Ruin at the digital animation & effects company, Oddball Animation.
This short film was used as a thrilling 4D attraction in the theme park Futuroscope, in which the viewers are strapped into a chair and moved around just like the main character is in this film.
The rights to the live-action film version were picked up by 20th Century Fox in 2012.
