Captain Edward John Smith : Right, gentlemen. As you know, we've got over 2,000 passengers on board the Titanic for this trip, and we're sailing into an area well known for its *icebergs*! So I thought it only prudent to go through a few safety checks. How did today's lifeboat drill go?
First Officer William McMaster Murdoch : It was cancelled, Captain Smith. As per your orders.
Captain Edward John Smith : [Pats Murdoch's shoulder] Good work, Murdoch! Who needs a lifeboat drill when you're on a ship this size? I mean, surely it's unsinkable, right?
First Officer William McMaster Murdoch : You'd have thought so, Sir.
Captain Edward John Smith : Hmm. Best be on the safe side, though. Have you checked that there are enough lifeboats for everyone on board?
First Officer William McMaster Murdoch : Of course we have, Sir. There aren't. We've only got 20 lifeboats, not nearly enough for all of our passengers.
Captain Edward John Smith : Is that wise?
First Officer William McMaster Murdoch : Don't really know, Sir. Nobody's ever made a ship this big, so regulations don't really cover it.
Captain Edward John Smith : Oh well, you know, regulations are regulations even if there aren't any regulations. And er, do we know how to use these lifeboats?
Lookout : No idea, Sir. Most of us haven't had the necessary training.
