Annabelle Wallis – whose credits include Annabelle, Malignant, and The Mummy – has signed on to star in the sci-fi thriller Mercy alongside previously announced cast members Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson, Variety reports. Details on the role Wallis will be playing have not been revealed, and the same can be said about Ferguson’s character.
Mercy reunites Pratt with his Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov to tell a story that is “set in the near future when capital crime has increased” and follows “a detective (Pratt] who is accused of a violent crime and forced to prove his innocence.” The screenplay was written by Marco Van Belle (Arthur & Merlin).
Coming our way from Amazon MGM Studios, the film is expected to go into production this spring and is already scheduled to receive a worldwide theatrical release on August 15, 2025.

If you love Star Wars: The Mandalorian, you should be reading the Lone Wolf and Cub manga that inspired its main storyline.
This Star Wars article contains spoilers for The Mandalorian.
A lone man stands against a failing Empire. By his side is a small infant, seemingly harmless and completely vulnerable without the warrior at its side. If you've been watching Disney+'s epic slowburn space western The Mandalorian, you might think that we're talking about episode two of the show, which centers on the titular hero and his new charge, a young alien who appears to be the same species as Master Yoda. But, in fact, we're describing the setup of Lone Wolf and Cub, one of the longest running and most iconic manga series of all time and a huge influence on the unexpectedly sweet story at the heart of the first live-action Star Wars series.

Every nation and culture has its own myths regarding heroes. Whether we talk about the Scandinavian sagas, Celtic folktales or the extensive number of Germanic myths such the “The Song of the Nibelung” (“Das Nibelungenlied”). The protagonists within these stories have to go through various tests, fights and perils in order to be victorious, achieve some sort of peace or find their way back home like Ulysses trying to make his way back to Ithaca or Perseus who is given the sheer impossible task of not only fighting but cutting off the head of the Medusa.
In a recent interview, writer Kozuo Koike talks about the inspirations for his long-lasting and successful series “Lone Wolf and Cub”. Since every writer wants his or her series to continue, not only to make money but also to have the opportunity of expanding on the narrative as well as its characters,...

During the 1960s and 1970s, the changes in the world with all its social and political upheavals as well as the general feeling of renewal (at least culturally) was reflected in the cinema of that time. While in the USA directors such as Arthur Penn, Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese made films which were about to change the face of Hollywood, as well as being satirical, sometimes dark comments on their times and Europe saw the rise of such filmmakers as Jean-Luc Godard, Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Francois Truffaut, in Japan the studio system was about to realize its state of stasis. With most of the big companies – Nikkatsu, Toei and Toho (just to name a few) – having to go through a time of economic difficulties and the strong competition from Hollywood movies, these studios had to react in order to stay relevant, not to lose the Japanese audience...

I really wanted to like Sword of Vengeance, I really did. Billed as “an almighty clash between Hammer of the Gods and Game of Thrones”, the film comes from the same people that worked on Nicolas Winding-Refn’s Valhalla Rising – to be fair that should have thrown up a warning or two given how much I hated that film – and tells the story of the Shadow Walker (Weber) who, cast out by the ruthless king, is searching for a new place to call home but clashes with many of the kingdom’s inhabitants along his journey. His story crosses paths with that of warrior Anna (Wallis) who, after the death of her husband, is called upon to lead her fellow Saxons into battle.
