Series three was picked up by Amazon when the BBC cancelled it after season 2.
The events of this episode are loosely based on a real-life train wreck that occurred at the Chelford railway station in Cheshire, England. The wreck occurred in the late afternoon hours of December 22, 1894. The wreck happened when a large boxcar was being shunted onto a side rail by the stationmaster, a sudden freak storm came out of nowhere and a strong gust of wind blew the boxcar over onto its side, the car fell on the main line right as the 4:15 PM Manchester to Crewe express approached. The stationmaster tried to warn the approaching train but due to the fact that sunset was approaching and the storm clouds blocked what little sunlight there was the engineer of the train could not see the fallen boxcar on the tracks in time to slow down. The train hit the boxcar at flank speed and was immediately derailed, as a result 48 passengers were injured and 14 killed.
The episode title "Whitechapel Terminus," is spoken by a train conductor.
