Excellent Look at the Effects of 'Return'
The FX of The Living Dead (2012)
**** (out of 4)
Excellent and highly entertaining documentary that takes a look at the special effects used in THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD. The 2016 updated version from Shout Factory clocks in at 32-minutes and features interviews with Tony Gardner, William Stout and William Munns. The three men do a terrific job at talking about the production of the film and what all they did in regards to the special effects. This includes talking about the majority of the special effects including the making of Tar man, the skeleton zombie and even Linnea Quigley's "private" part (what a great job that would have been). Fans of THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD will certainly love this featurette as it gives you a terrific idea of what it was like on the set including the various run ins that the make-up guys had with the director. There are some really great stories told here and you certainly get a very good idea of how the effects were created. Kenny Myers and Craig Caton are added to the 2016 version from Shout Factory and add some great stuff as well.
