I love Egyptian art. However, I have always thought that displaying mummies is wrong. I live near a cemetery. If I went and started digging up the graves, I would be in a lot of trouble. So what makes it alright for archeologists to do it?
Just because they are old, the mummies are still people. Ancient cultures and their beliefs should be respected. Most of the Egyptian tombs have warnings on them not to disturb the dead. And rightfully so. Not for fear of hauntings, but because they should be allowed to rest in peace.
Would you want your family's bodies put out for public viewing? "Hey let's go visit Mom and Dad at the museum. They have even been unwrapped so that we can see their faces". Is that statement not a bit grotesque? So why is it fine when the dead body is a pharaoh? I have always found such things disturbing and disrespectful.
