Interesting and intelligent
ashot-37 January 2022
Intelligent movie, strong cast, good acting. Interestingly, the movie came out in 2013, when both Chirac and Giscard d'Estaing were alive (they died in 2019 and 2020, respectively) - so there should have been plenty of chances to get their inputs for the story. I do not know if that is what had happened, but I won't be surprised if it did. On the flip side, if something in the movie had been seriously misrepresented, we, most probably, would have heard from them.

One of the French films that shows well the inner workings of the political establishment in France (the others that come to mind are "Les hommes de l'ombre", released in English-speaking countries as "Spin" and "Le candidat", which, quite unsurprisingly, is known as "The Candidate").

The entire film is based on conversations, in which everything matters - the voice level, the tone, the words, the gestures, the smiles (or lack of them), etc. If that is what interests you, then there is a strong possibility that you might enjoy the viewing, possibly a few times - that is, as a matter of fact, what I did.
