Editing The Howling
Cut to Shreds with Mark Goldblatt (2013)
*** (out of 4)
Another new featurette that can be found on the Shout Factory! release of Joe Dante's THE HOWLING. This one here interviews the editor who talks about different aspects of the film but he starts off talking about how he met Dante on some of the director's earliest works as well as some of the future projects they did. From here the attention focuses on THE HOWLING as we learn that Dante likes to be in the editing room so Goldblatt talks about how that was done. There's a lot of talk about the special effects used in the film and how the editing became so important to make sure they came off looking correct. While there's nothing ground-breaking here, fans of THE HOWLING are really going to enjoy this 10-mintue interview because it gives you a good idea of what was going on in the editing room, which is about all you can hope for. Goldblatt talks about his love of horror movies and why working on this film meant so much to him.
