Uninteresting and faulty Warning: Spoilers
"Don't Judge a Book by Its Cover" is a really long title for this pretty short film at under 6 minutes. Writer and director of this British live action movie is Hamish Ward and while he has been prolific in other fields, it is according to imdb his only credit for writing and directing. Maybe it is a good thing because I was neither entertained nor impressed by this one here. I am also a bit curious why it is currently in the top5000 titles here on imdb. It is neither famous, nor being remade with big name actors nor offering famous people in cast or crew. It can't be just James Payton who you may have seen in some movies. At least without noticing. So yeah, basically this one here is a little fake documentary and everythign that Ricky Gervais does right in mockumentaries was done wrong here. I never cared one bit about the character, who works as a book title page designer. A bit of a shame honestly because it could have made for a good subject because honestly who thinks of them when holding a book in their hands? It is all about the writer and maybe the publisher too. But yeah things did not turn out nicely here at all. The monotonous narration was as bland as the (lack of a) story. I still would have given the film more than 2 out of 10 because it was just uninteresting and not a failure, but one particular moment caught my attention here that shows how little those who worked on this film really cared. Complete lack of attention to detail. There is talk about a writer who had a negative impact on our "hero's" career and they apparently created a fake wikipedia page to make it look as if the writer is at least somewhat famous. So far so good. It's been done in big films too with wikipedia and google search results etc. to create a bit of an alternate reality. However, if you don't even manage to spell the writer's name the same on two different occasion when it is displayed, then you really may want to have other people look at your movie for errors. Or there will without a doubt be a "couldn't care less" message sent out to the audience. I saw it in my only watch. Immediately. And that was one watch too many. Highly not recommended.
