This episode was a good roller coaster ride. After five and a half seasons, there's enough plot history - think, strong pieces on the chessboard - that now there's the potential for a good game to be played. As usual, it's going to come down to writing, and whether the show runners have the vision give us something great. But this episode has all the makings of a fantastic beginning to a great multi-episode story line. I particularly liked the way the wove an off-duty Nolan & Baily into the action, and there were some well placed surprises all throughout. Pacing was also very good, and we got a few little bits of comedy to break tension. This show is enjoyable as a regular procedural, but the setup is in place for a good story. Let's see if they can pull it off.

Epic comeback?

If you follow the reviews, I covered episodes 6 and 7. Throughout the analysis my main point was that the show badly needed deeper storylines, a puzzle of intertwined plot lines to entertain the viewers. And I can confidently say that this episode started to use the existing hanging arcs to the advantage for the whole show. Like as I was saying, to excuse "realistic violence", plot pretext's needed, which was done. Not perfectly but gonna cut it for now because the case is still unsolved.
The shrink was predictable from the start of the season but ok for now. What makes me hopeful - finally John and Bailey are settled down with each other, hope to see less scenes with them doing mediocre relationship stuff.
For now it is just a one turnaround episode but hopefully there will be more like that. I'm in hopes to see the big con in action (prison break).
